Another good thing about a rubberized backing on a drop cloth is that it’s much more slip resistant on hardwood floors. Not just for yourself, but for your customers to hopefully not break their necks when they come haphazardly into your workspace.

Excellent work! Recently I painted my community clubhouse and did an accent wall as well. After watching your video I guess I did a great job. I’m 62 year old and painted many walls in my life time. I’ve seen some of your videos and I do a lot of the techniques you use I’ve learned throughout the years through trial and error. A few things that helps me is to paint by myself quietly without a radio, take your time and plan and don’t cut corners and use a lot of tape. I enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work!!!

    What blue tape please captain

  • @splanzza

Great to see a long form content from The Wall Whisperer. Always something to learn. Two questions, one -you apply caulking over blue tape and "it should be pealed off while caulking is still wet" and yet it takes two coats of paint with drying time in between which even for a pro is hour and a half at least. Isn't that enough time for caulk to dry or at least to become very tacky? And two, cutting in with white paint over green tape and fresh caulk, doesn't that dig into fresh caulk no matter how thin it is hence creating a mess with caulk curling up? Happy Holidays!

      @@splanzza great questions!
      1. Caulk remains wet for 2 hours or so. It doesn’t set up. And the second coat of wet paint re-tempers the caulking and frustrates the set up!
      2. It doesn’t dig in brother. It’s the perfect product for this issue.
      Thanks for the meaningful thoughts.

Is there a reason you didn’t add paint extender? I just ask because I’m new to painting and in past videos you seem to always use it. I don’t know if there are times it shouldn’t be used?

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  19 дней назад +1

Great question. No need to extend drying. The extender is used for when you need time such as a very long wall or in the situation like Crown moulding where the light is hitting the crown moulding and you want to assist the Paint to self level and eliminate any possibility of a brush stroke… You could add extender here, however, you must ask yourself is it necessary because you do alter the set up and the time of the Paint.

If you don’t know how to use a brush without needing tape, means you are not a pro painter. 😂 Sorry mate, couldn’t help myself! 😂
All jokes aside, I find applying the tape around skirting board (trim for Americans) is so hard to get straight. You make it look so easy you can do it with one hand! The job ends up looking worse because I didn’t get the taping right! I wish I could do it well because the finish you get is some of the best I have seen on RUclips. I need to practice because I would love to become good at painting. I like to paint my house every year (2 years max) so hopefully I get there.
I am a DIY’er before people start saying I am s#&t and stupid for not knowing how to tape properly.

@ Sorry mate, I couldn’t resist the temptation! I know it’s easier said than done but you really shouldn’t let them get to you.
You have to be very insecure to feel the need to try and belittle someone to make yourself feel better! If I watch a video I disagree with, I just stop watching and move on, I don’t feel the need to tell the creator what they should be doing! They are the ones that we need to pity! Also, If they are already that good, why are they watching tutorials! Your content is based around helping the DIY’er, from what I can see. Why are the so called professionals watching it in the first place! 😂

@@villa_fan8882 If a tradesman puts himself forth as an expert they have to expect critical feedback if they are not showing best proven practices. This is not being insecure, it is holding someone responsible for their inaccurate videos.

    • @villa_fan8882

@@williams.porter6182 That is a very fair point. I do agree with constructive criticism and people with RUclips channels should be prepared for criticism from their viewers. However, the person making the criticism should be prepared for a different point of view and take into account many variables.
If someone is suggesting that you are only a pro painter, if you don’t use tape to cut in, would be a very immature and foolish thing to say! But if you are debating a technique and you are suggesting a different approach could potentially work better, that is a reasonable comment.
I see so many comments where people are just criticising to be rude, or they are trying to suggest that the creator is clueless. I am a believer in free speech but I still think there is a reasonable approach to criticising online.

You go through all of the trouble to do an amazing job and for the material you choose a mediocre box store brand of paint??
Sherwin Williams Duration Matte Finish or anything on the shelves at your local Benjamin Moore shop.
Worth the extra money to get that coverage and finish.

Understand, the homeowner chose the paint. It wasn’t the best but by far. Not the worst. I’m wallpapering for them tomorrow. I paint only if they have me doing w-paper
