Learn 20 verbs you can use to be more concise in English. "Concise" means that what you say or write is short and clear. You remove all of the unnecessary words and details.
I know many students want to speak faster in English. Increasing your speed comes with time and lots of practice. But, it's not always about speed. Using concise language can help you express yourself in a clear way.
After every four verbs, I give you a mini gap-fill to help you review what you learned. Can you please let me know your score in the comments? Did you get 20/20? Or maybe 10/20?
Use the discussion questions at the end of this video. Answer the questions with a friend or speaking partner. The more you practice, the more comfortable you'll feel using these verbs in an English conversation.
    1) What types of things can dissolve quickly in water? Slowly in water?
    2) What can you do to prevent food from rotting? What types of food rot quickly?
    3) Organic matter decomposes. How does this benefit the environment?
    4) How can we differentiate between reliable and unreliable information online? Why is this skill important?
    5) Have you ever received a gift with a special message engraved on it? How did it
    make you feel?
    6) Have you ever been scammed? What are some common scams you can think of?
    7) Have you ever mistaken a person's intentions or feelings? How did you resolve the situation?
    8) How many hours per day/week do you spend browsing online?
    9) How can we ensure that we don't unintentionally patronize others when communicating with them?
    10) Do you think it's important to patronize local businesses over large
multinational corporations? Why or why not?
    11) What do you do to unwind and relax after a busy day?
    12) What factors contribute to a person's ability to thrive in their career and personal
    life?
    13) How have advancements in healthcare and medicine helped lengthen human lifespans?
    14) What should city planners keep in mind when making decisions to widen roads?
    15) In what ways can positive feedback heighten your motivation and confidence?
    16) What are the pros and cons of shortening the workweek?
    17) Why is it important for individuals and organizations to comply with
    rules and laws?
    18) How do people sometimes blur the lines between their public
and private lives on social media?
    19) What are some advantages and disadvantages of censoring
content in the media or online?

Carry on, carry on. Don't stop you now. by the way, i have watched one of your videos about "the past tense"..threre you say the sunrise is at 4.30 AM and the sunset at 9.45PM. Dont tell me that you are living in which at 4.30 is the crack of dawn. LOL. It would be a tragedy for me. I go to bed at two in the morning..lol Good job. Dissolved is nearly the same in spanish , this verb es common here because we dissolve sugar , coffee, tea, the whole day through. The last one get the rotten egg . I have engraved this phrase in my brain since i was a child. Unfortuntely activists do not comply with the Law. Today a Velazquez's famous painting was attacked this morning. Museum will need lengthen the distance between people and painting ones , we can't blurred the reality. Undertaking future bills mustn't be censored.

I don't want him to mistake this gift for anything other than a thank you.
I couldn't understand meaning of this sentence. Could you explain me?

If a woman gives a man a gift with a loving message on it, he may think she is flirting. He may "mistake" the gift for flirting. In the mini conversation the woman just wants to say thank you by giving him a gift with an engraving.
      I hope this helps! :)

    1. Can we say, 'The house will rot if we don't use it'?
    2. The underside of the car has/is decayed. Is this correct?

Cannot we say it has melted in the water

    • @ArnelsEverydayEnglish
      @ArnelsEverydayEnglish  7 месяцев назад

That's a good question. No, "melting" comes from heat.
Cheese can melt in the oven.
Ice cream can melt when it's hot outside.
Candles melt because of the fire.
When things "dissolve" they slowly break down in a liquid.
      Hope this helps! :)
