My thoughts on the fan reaction to The Crow (2024) and the negativity coming with it.

  • It seems like whenever a well loved film is remade, the negativity comes out before anyone has seen the finished product. The Crow from 1994 is my favorite movie of all time and it has a TREMENDOUS following. The trailer for its remake/reboot recently premiered online and the hatred for it became a bit overwhelming. Here, I give my thoughts on the hate and a lot of people's reasoning and then do my best to explain why some of it isn't justified.

    See, when you confront them with a question that make sense, they can't come up with an answer. No doesn't matter if The Crow 2024 is good or bad, the original Crow still exist for you to watch on DVD, Blu-ray, VOD, streaming services.

    Okay I just watched the trailer. I think it looks kind of good. It doesn't look as dark and brooding as the original Crow and I know it'll never take the place of it. But it looks like fun. The only thing I really didn't care for was the tattoos on his face.

    The dumbest complaint I've heard from the fans? How the revenant actually looks.
    They don't all look the damn same. They've never read the other comics, nor have they seen the other movies, and it clearly shows. There was the little dead girl from Curare, the Jewish prisoner from Skinning the Wolves, & the tattooed black guy from Wild Justice.
    To the fans still stuck in the 90s, here's a hot news flash: "James moved on, so should you."

    Thank you for this. The thing that bothers me about all the hate is people aren’t understanding that Disney owns all the rights to the OG. They cannot make it the same for legal issues. This movie is going to be amazing, Bill is the perfect choice. This isn’t the 90’s… life goes on and changes.

    Good points Eric, my only thing is the look of this remake, in my opinion, dates the film to this time, whereas the OG still holds up, with it's look and feel, which to me looks timeless. I would have rather it been a separate Crow story not Draven, but a different character. I think more people, including myself, would have been more open to that. But again, that is just me, will I see it in theaters upon release probably not, as I would rather wait for streaming or heck if there is amazing word of mouth than maybe I will check it out sooner.

    Im giving it a shot for a retelling.. plan on seeing it in theaters.. I wasn't a fsn of the sequels. i think the city of angels could have been better if the script was better. That said, this looks way better than any of the sequels. It more than likely is not going to be as good as the first one, but it will definitely be better than the other Crow films we have had meaning the other Crow characters we have seen in the past.

      It'll always be compared to the original so it has big shoes to fill with its fanbase. And it'll be different enough as to not be a copy of it. I just think it should be seen first before being dumped on.

    I'm Not As Big Into The Crow

    Because Of The Tragedy Surrounding Brandon's Death

    Am I a fan of The Crow? Yes. Huge fan of the movie, but I also enjoy the sequels. Am I a fan of this version of The Crow?
    Not yet. But I am willing to give it a shot.
    There are a lot of things that look good in this movie. There are also a lot of things that don't look great as well.
    But like you said, its only a trailer. Things may change by the time the film comes out. Some of the stuff in the trailer may not be in the movie, or it may be that the trailer is taking a lot out of context.
    That being said... What they do show, I do not really like. It looks and feels to stylised style action and overall a very colourful feel. I wanted a darker, grittier feel to it.
    One thing I dont like about the trailer (and again, this may change or may not even be in the film) was seeing more of Eric and Shelley's love and backstory. I dont need to know where they met, how they met or any of that. I simply need to know that they love each other. Which is something the original film did really well!
    Why cant it be another person? You are right, they did that and people HATED it too (cause it wasnt Brandon Lee) I enjoyed City Of Angels, I enjoyed Salvation, I enjoyed Stairway to Heaven... Not so much Wicked Prayer. Will Bill Skarsgard be a good Eric Draven? Maybe. Hasnt failed so far.
    Sorry for the rant! Great video and I really do agree with you...
    If you go into this movie thinking it will be trash, then yes it will be.

    Hello, first. 😂
    I'd like to share m'y point of view about this. As a HUGE fan of the first movie and Brandon Lee, i don't feel like i'm going to see this at theater. I'm trying to avoid rage based on my attachement to the first😂. I'll watch it on Platforms and IF EVENTUALLY i'll love it, i'll buy the Blu Ray. That's how i am😂.
    Nonetheless, here are my thoughts.
    My principal problem with the remake is Rupert Sanders. He made looking good movies but soulless movies. The crow is all about soul and feelings undercover of revenge and violence. I DON'T feel this here. It's at best flat, at worst pretentious and in your face. Witch basically is the Sanders style. I don't like what I see. I don't recognize a Crow character whatever his name is. I don't blame actors, actually i'm a Skarsgard Family fan, so Bill i got you bro😂. I'm sure he could do a good Crow. Even a good Eric . Less sure about FKA Twig we'll see. However, Eric DRAVEN is too marked by Brandon Lee. Call The Crow 2024 Eric something and i'll take it. I don't mind ''Eric''. But the name DRAVEN makes me automatically go to Brandon Lee . It Lost me. As today, The film itself is selling like some ''good'' action horror Flick for Netflix. So don't call it the Crow and it pass. Even if i don't go to theater to see it.
    Concerning the Brandon Lee story, with a bit of stepback i don't think it's disrespectfull to Brandon Lee to remade it. A LOT of movies are remade and actors died and no one cares!
    About the music, good Luck to make an Epic one like the first.
    So i don't think i'll go to theater. But i'll watch it anyhow. 😅

    I don’t think is fair to keep calling it a remake only because the surname Draven is on it. There has been a couple of other sequels that added surnames to differentiate them like Corvus, and Corvis but they are practically the same character and concept and story.
    Also the show Stairway to Heaven the character is also named Eric Draven and it’s a different take

    • @HeyInternetErichere
      @HeyInternetErichere  5 месяцев назад

      I've never seen Stairway to Heaven but I'm wondering why some people will give THAT version of Eric a pass and not Bill's.

  • @TheBeardedEntertainment
    @TheBeardedEntertainment 5 месяцев назад +1

    I dont think its that someone else is playing the Eric Draven character. Its that they changed the Eric Draven character so much that it's no longer Eric. If they changed the character's name then most of the complaints go away. As for violence, sure the OG was violent and the graphic novel is violent but theres different kinds of violent. This is so John Wick sylized that it doesnt resemble the OG or GN at all. As for ending the Crow legacy, I would rather it end on a bad movie that ISNT Eric Draven then ending it on a bad movie that IS Eric Draven

    • @HeyInternetErichere
      @HeyInternetErichere  5 месяцев назад +1

      I can see your points, but I wouldn't want anything to end on a sour note, especially with Wicked Prayer. As for your the "John Wick" look of the violence, that's just the sign of the times and what's popular. I'm optimistic and hopeful this will get a great, if not at least really entertaining movie.

    I always felt that The Crow was a routine revenge thriller with a supernatural edge but what made it so special was the level of style within the production and how it tied into pop culture of the times. The soundtrack and the comic book aesthetic is what keeps me going back to it and also the excellent performances by everyone especially Brandon Lee. The new one just looks kinda uninspired. Cool video Eric.

    there was also a TV series called, "Stairway to Heaven" which adapted the film's storyline and expanded upon it, but only lasted one season. so, they're kinda hypocrites for saying that xD
    and NO, no i would not want the franchise to end on a pathetic whimper that is Wicked Prayer... and i can't believe people are starting to warm up to that film on tumblr of all places lmfao.
    cuz from what little i've seen of Wicked Prayer, HOOOOLY SHIIIIT, it is BAAAAD. ATROCIOUSLY bad. like, UNSPEAKABLY BAD.
    so bad that it makes City of Angels and Salvation look like CITIZEN KANE AND MACGYVER in comparison (ok i wouldn't go as far as to say THAT) but you get the gist.

    You are very optimistic, my dude and good for you. But also as a fan of the original and as a goth, the original had so much soul and such atmosphere, which they completely distanced themselves from in this new movie. The surrounding area was a character of its own. They could have easily chosen another name for the character and leave Eric Draven as Brandon Lee's legacy. This is just (seemingly) the next souless action flick Hollywood is putting out there. I agree that Bill is a good actor and that remakes make you go back to the original. And i think unfortunately this will be a huge mistake in his career. Will watch it, but when it's out on some streaming service.

    • @HeyInternetErichere
      @HeyInternetErichere  5 месяцев назад

      Maybe they purposely distanced themselves from the gothic atmosphere of the original to make it it's own movie as well. Remakes/reboots need to make reference to the original yet be their own thing as well. I don't think Bill taking this role will be a mistake or a regret. He's too great of an actor for that.
