Awesome to see you react to this!
As I said on the actual video, I think they made this more to promote Tobi's new signature series guitar for Kiesel. It looks damn nice in this video! 8 string headless guitars certainly aren't common, and the color scheme of red and black is always badass.
I suck at guitar, but I remember hearing about economy picking decades ago. It is essentially alternate picking, but when you change strings you use that momentum of movement towards your next pick. IE: if you're moving from a high string to a lower string, you'd strike the string with an upstroke, but if you were going from a lower string to a higher string, you'd strike it with a down-stroke. It was recommended as a technique for increasing your picking speed and precision while switching strings, but it takes some getting used to, especially if you already have the muscle memory developed to always alternate pick (or something else, maybe you're James Hetfield and you down pick almost everything...)
The other picking style Dean uses is hybrid picking, another method I'd heard of decades ago but sucked far too much to implement it into my playing. It's just mixing picking with a pick while integrating your ring, middle and possibly pinky finger to pick higher strings with finger style. It is used mostly to make large string skips easier at high speed or to integrate more of a classical style, finger picked riff that would be near impossible to do with a pick only.
From your music, you're still clearly a better guitarist than me, but I've always been obsessed with fiddling around with weird techniques to get new tones, so I've always studied techniques far beyond my ability or use. I guess that makes me nerdy and weird, but hey, it was part of the joy I had of playing guitar when I kept up with it in my youth!
One last thing, that weird mix of picking and hammer on with the pick up on the fret board Tobi does in this song is a technique I'm totally unfamiliar with doing, so I don't know the mechanics of how it is performed or what specific tones/notes/structures it produces best, but I do recall both Dean talking about it in their livestream and I think in their video recording diary (Bring Back the Danger on RUclips) they mentioned it. They refer to it as "chicken picking."
It looks like he's alternating hammering on and picking to get the clearer, fast notes. There's no way I'd have a chance of pulling that off, as I was always bad at hammering with the pick, but it might be something you can fool around with.

Yeah, easy for me to get sucked into Archspire reactions, being a fan and all haha.
I use to not like the look of guitars with no headstock but this one looks great and red and black are my colors, so! haha :)
Thanks for the info. I've played guitar for a long time but definitely haven't learned any new techniques in quite some time. So thanks for the low down! Lots of techniques being used these days for sure!

@@GoreCoreReactsandReviews I think the best thing about the lack of headstock is the joint between the headstock and the rest of the neck is one of the most common things to be broken on a guitar. It extrudes the furthest and is a weaker point, so it is likely to crack and break over time.
Not a huge issue for most guitars, you don't smash the headstock into things all that often, but it is a way to make the instrument more resilient.
I've heard the tuning systems headless guitars use is also quite good, but I guess that would depend a lot on the bridge you're using... I'm fairly sure there's a few different bridges that go with headless guitars nowadays... but I've not played one for more than a few seconds, so I really don't know... I can only go by the testimonies I've heard.

Mad skills, but headless guitars just look...weird. I tried to learn guitar when I was a kid, soon realized I had zero ability...hands too small, fingers too short, and no ear.

Yeah they are odd looking haha :) Did you try for long? I have short stubby fingers and arthritis in my hands which makes playing sucky sometimes but I just push through it. It definitely took me years and I can't touch the talents of most good guitarists :) I'm all ear, don't know theory at all.

@@GoreCoreReactsandReviews I tried for about six months when I was maybe nine. My biggest problem is I really do have a tin ear. I cannot tell pitch at all. I tried again when I was in ninth grade, but still couldn't pick it up. I could learn where to place my fingers for the notes, but they all sounded the same to me. Guess that's why I am more into lyrics, those I can interpret, even write sometimes (but not very well).

I'm an adult but wanted to start learning guitar. And I want 7 or 8 strings headless guitar with multiscale fret. Is that too much for beginner?
