I would agree environmentalism is a much LARGER issue than being aesthetic, and you shouldn't support a cause (or in some causes pretend support one) just because it's trendy. Something like preservation and environmental protection is far too important to be boiled down as a fad. So I'd totally agree if that's what you mean

Aesthetic and environmentalism can totally co-exist but to get behind something with no real investment or good intention besides gaining popularity, following or becoming one with another trend I just don’t agree with. Dear VSCO girls, the problem isn't just straws--that's a small part. You gotta cut out ALL plastic. The turtles aren't the only creatures suffering.
BTW I think it's ridiculous that a trend that's actually is making an effort to reduce plastic usage and help the environment and it's creatures (even if their view is short-sided) is being attacked. The movement toward that idea should be celebrated (and further educated).

Fast fashion is excessive and unnecessary, if you care that much about the environment you can thrift shop or, if thats not an option, buy stuff consciously. Buying loads of things (whether thats scrunchies or oversized shirts) from (fast fashion) brands to fit the aesthetic is a lil weird if the aesthetic is apparently about being good for the environment.
