Darkthrone talk to Peaceville about their Transilvanian Hunger album.
Fenriz handled all instruments on this album, as confirmed in at least two interviews.
First press 1994 (VILE 43 CD): VILE 43 written on the disc, no Music For Nations logo on the back cover
Second press 1994 (CDVILE 43): no VILE 43 written on the disc, MFN logo on the back cover.
Both have the infamous phrase 'Norsk Arisk Black Metal' (Norwegian Aryan Black Metal).
The last 4 tracks feature lyrics by Varg Vikernes.
The person on the cover is Fenriz.
Some pressings have the phrase 'Norsk Arisk Black Metal' (Norwegian Aryan Black Metal), but due to the negative response of many distributors around the world, that phrase was replaced by "True Norwegian Black Metal" in later pressings.
Reissued and remastered in 2003 as a digipak featuring a video interview clip.

I love when Fenriz imitates primitive drumming with his knee and hand.

I think it was very cool of them to make these amaturish self-made interviews, because for many years (early & mid 90's) Darkthone refused interviews ,even from the underground zine's . Fenriz had one interview with metal hammer (trash special-92 ,about "a blaze"..) After that, at least to my knowlegde , they didn't do any promotion or interviews at all,for several years. (the most interesting years) This is very much in their "we do everything by ourselves" spirit. If you're not a fan, this is boring. For an old fan like me,this is very interesting.

Why indeed support music industry farces like cult of personality, ego, hot air, blah blah when ure able to make music THAT SPEAKS FOR ITSELF. I loved it back then cuz their attitude was very punk although they were generating tons of cash for peaceville!

this is a myth though. Fenriz did a HEAP of interviews in the early / mid-90's. Slayer, Petrified, Nordic Vision, Ornament, Soluzen, Terrorizer, Orcustus, Skogen, Sepulchural Noize, Einherjum, Deprived, Tales Of The Macabre but to name a few. he only refused interviews because he couldn't keep up with his mail. he also did many interviews under Isengard & Neptune Towers. @tingtongnidnoi

A shame we didn't get Nocturno Culto's views on the album like he did with the others, perhaps because Fenriz played guitar on the album & it was very much his baby. Also disappointing Fenriz neglected to mention Zephyrous' departure between 'Under A Funeral Moon' & 'Transylvanian Hunger', so it felt a bit lacking compared to the previous installments, but otherwise an excellent series that gives some insight to their classic albums.

i don't make music at all but i feel like the drums r just as important as the riffs in Black Metal. like Euronymous said it's like a machine gun sound. when you add in elements that resemble other certain elements it helps place you into that specific mindset, a battle or war type of mentality. i don't feel like they're just there, it's apart of the conditioning. everything has it's way of condition ppl's minds.

    • @slaythembeforeme

Drums are important in BM in the sense that they should be there in the background but they're certainly not as important as guitar riffs and vocals. Drums are way more important in all other forms of Metal.
