It's being used every day in aquariums, people inject co2 bubbles into the aquarium tank and also use a bromothymol solution as an indicator and plants use that co2 for growth. The indicator is just there to show when enough co2 is in the tank so you don't kill your fish. On the energy part i don't think photosynthesis can be used for energy production.
