They used to be based out of March AFB here in Southern California. Dad use to drive us to the fields (now housing tracks) and watch them land and take off. So impressive. Best thing Boeing ever made.
I remember in 1977 they came to RAF Marham in the UK. I was a cub scout and because our fathers were all RAF personnel we were invited to have a tour. I remember going inside, big bomber but tiny cockpit (even when you're 9). RAF planes were the same (I've been inside the Vulcan and Victor). I think it was an era of a smaller pilot. Impressive aircraft, amazing they still fly and I love that articulated under carriage - what a genius piece of thinking.
Hard to believe that these B-52H planes landing are over 60 years old. The Air Force currently expects to operate B-52s through 2050. The B-52A first flew in 1954, and the B model entered service in 1955. A total of 744 B-52s were built, with the last, a B-52H, delivered in October 1962. The first of 102 B-52H's was delivered to Strategic Air Command in May 1961.The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bombers are expected to remain in service until at least 2050, and potentially until around 2060. The B-52s are currently being modernized with upgrades and a new engine overhaul.
you have blown my mind, dunno how i ended up watching this video ive zero aviation knowledge. But to learn from you that these very aircraft are over 60yrs old is astonishing!!!
@@jimalcott760 absolutely not. Trump may be popular among uneducated American people, but as far as the world is concerned, it's a very depressing day for intelligent life on earth! 😂
Excellent footage! Very unusual for me to see the blue lights on the ARFF rigs, and rather than seeing the typical red and white with maybe a hint of yellow also.
Looked like some sort of imbalance on the wings of the second aircraft - maybe a fuel transfer problem ? I remember these parked up in Frankfurt airport in the '70's - there seemed to be mile upon mile of them.
They used to fly so low over us in the 60s that thelooked like they were going to hit our barn im guessing they were headed for cold lake. They are crazy huge and beautiful
No Fairford has been a USAF base since the 1950's, there used to be KC135's there until the end of the cold war and they flew B52's out of there during GW1.
Yeah, so, despite being owned by the UK government, it is leased to the US government, and thus, all air and ground operations are run by the US Air Force. British citizens also work on base in a variety of roles, though.
This is fascinating, I had no idea American bombers were stationed here, since all the fuss about greenham common years ago. Is it normal for them to deploy to Europe? I assume they carry nuclear bombs as a matter of course?
@@jonathanland2218 The president has access to far more destructive technology than a B52 bomber. Technology that he had access to during his first presidency, the one where he got the U.S. into no new wars.

Good to hear your voice. Thanks for posting
The B-52 is designed to land in any weather even if there are no navigational aids of any kind as long as the systems onboard are functioning.
I lived near Fairford in the 1980s used to love seeing the muscle flying in and out 🇺🇲
Thanks for sharing 🙏

@@fraserhardmetal7143 That imbalance is due to the pilot's attention to detail. You can tell the great from the good by little things like that.
The only plane and pilots I'd ever fly with -- classic beauty too. Now getting Rolls Royce engines.
How or what was the emergency? Looked like pretty normal landing to me.
Slim Pickens was the pilot

Yes they were, albeit temporarily, for 4 months in 1973 when a squadron were dispersed to Fairford whilst the Waddington runway was being resurfaced.

When are they due to depart?

awesome
they should had told the crew to run to left side
Hello Cobras. When a fifty-two year old aircraft is the last threat line....
This was no doubt planned years ago like the firing of a Minuteman III. Timed for the election and a warning to somebody.😂
Amazing Aircraft, experienced AirCrew!
That emergency is clearly sitting lower on the right wing, perhaps a right main carriage failure?

I sure hate to be the target US not to be.mess with that is sure.
Really ?

Anyone ever say what the emergency was ?
Sweet !!!
the funniest part: the remaining b52s are almost as old as the US air force😂. the usaf was barely in its teens when the first b52 came out.
They can see through anything.😂
Very impressive

They are joining the 5th Bomber Wing (B-52) from Minot, North Dakota, home of the frozen chosen, headed to Kuwait.
Where in Europe?
Cotswalds. About 100 miles west of London
Can be illuminated from 600 miles with current radar technology. F-35 can be illuminated over Iraq now.
