Awesome car. I'm thinking of getting a w123 200 4 door 1984 going for about 1500 euros here in Malaysia.
1500 € for a good W123 would be cheap. In Thailand, but also in Germany, a 200 W123 would more likely be 6000 €...
You have great and informative videos. Found you because of your gorgeous Fiat 130 Coupe, a car I have dreamed of since it was introduced. Then your W123 series 280 TE. Very nice car and fantastic color, which I have never seen, although I almost lived in such cars in their time. Will be watching all your videos as they are beautifully made, informative, inspiring and very interesting. Twenty years ago I had an MB W126 420 SEL. It had a consumption and other costs just like your 280 TE. Have again started to look for me a car like that, but this time a 420 SE. Not leather interior this time, but velor. Much better, and more beautiful. Hope you again get inspiration to make more great videos, both from Europe but also from Asia and Thailand. Would be very pleased. Greatings from Norway,

Love the car. All older Benz models will need some up front work. Yours clearly didn't need much compared to most. A damn fine purchase and I hope I can see it in person this August or September when I travel to Thailand. A shame about the inability to purchase proper insurance coverage.
Properly cared for, these Benz are really very reliable. Though we had a little incident with our brakes during our trip to Malaysia this April. Maybe you have seen the video already anyway.

the gearbox, if it is the same as in 300TDT and 230, then you fix the issue with the gearing too early with a wire cable (the kind of cable with metal wire inside) In the engine bay you can find this cable, it has a plastic wheel with threads with which you calibrate where it should gear. It is called "Bowden cable". If it starts to shift hard (which they all do after a while) you have to look at the vakuum lines and make sure they are not leaking. There is also a vakum module on the transmission that tend to break down every now and then. You should also have a switch underneath the gas pedal which determines your kickdown, which also could be the issue with the early shifting.

I just wanted to add, if you've checked all the above and it still shifts bad, there could be time to replace the springs in the transmission valve body. These get sloppy over time and will need to be replaced. There are kits with springs named "superior K722A". You see the valve body when removing the transmission oil pan so do that when you're about to change transmission fluid and filter.

I don't know any real specialist for old Benz in Phuket, but I personally use a repair shop in Ko Kaeo which can handle W123 or W124. Location 7.955576, 98.387886

BUT...if you have an old car they wont cover accident cost for your car but will cover 3rd party accident to other cars, strange policy,

does your insurance cover damages to your car in case of accident? i am looking at buying a w123 or w124 so weighing out options
My car only has 3rd party insurance. I think it's impossible to get "first class" insurance for an old car like the W123 in Thailand. It's probably a risk which we have to accept.
whats gonna happen if you crash in to a lambo with your insurance?
Then I am screwed and better flee the country...
