Obviously, the cops’ behavior/judgement during incidents like Uvalde was bad. However, disarming cops would only encourage the exact same behavior. The difference is cops having the means to help versus not being able to help at all. The former situation means the cop’s lack of competency is to blame while the latter is the cop being a meat shield. Biggest culture shock to anyone in the US going to another developed country? The cops. Once saw a person passed out on the street one morning from drinking if their face was any indication and the person I was with, who was my guide at the time, said "oh I'll call the cops" and my first reaction was "holy shit are you trying to get them killed?" and they stared at me like I was insane. Few minutes later 2 cops show up, no sirens, no vest, no guns and gently woke the person up and drove him to the station. No yelling, no handcuffs, no nothing. And they thanked my guide for letting them know and saluted us before they left. I was literally speechless and thinking "that's not how cops work" while my guide was asking me what I thought was going to happen. They were genuinely concerned that my first thought upon hearing the phrase "I'll call the cops" was "someone's going to die".
@@nitishsingh674 Well it's not always "someone's gonna die". Sometimes it's "someone's gonna get beaten into a bloody mess". Depends on the situation. But most people think that. The ones that don't are extremely sheltered white people and I don't mean that as an insult, it's just how it is. Upper/middle class suburban white people are typically going to be the ones calling the cops because they just don't know about police gangs or police brutality. They think the first one is fake and the other one ended along with racism in 1964.
@@nitishsingh674 No one except like right leaning people, kids who don't know any better and law enforcement zealots views cops as actual "civil servants" that are there to help and they've done a good job making that view valid in our history. Any situation where officers are around and involved is a time to be on alert due to the danger they present. So much so that some people are hesitant to even call the police out of fear for themselves and the other people involved, even if those other people are an actual threat themselves.

Thats literally what most cops are; state sanctioned killers. few actually act as law enforcement, most act like fear demons that prowl the streets. hell, I'm not a criminal and i even get nervous when a cop pulls out and drives behind me, I'm thinking "fuck I hope i don't go a mile above because it could cost me 200, plates up to date? ok cool, nothing to be scanned for? etc etc" thats not how you want to feel around people, regardless of status.

Something else that people don't mention, like lets say a cop does experience a fringe instance where they find themselves face to face with a gunman and assuming their pleas of "MY LIFE WAS IN DANGER' were actually true and someone wasnt just exercising their right to carry or the cops mistaking a firearm. Why do you think the suspects instantly turn to violence? gosh maybe because the police are coming at them guns drawn and historically, going on a limb here, cops havent been known for their trigger discipline
Just wanted to add that doing it like the UK is an alternative, normal police and on the beat cops don't have guns but armed officers can be called in when really needed. (those officers also don't shoot people often at all despite the UK having a lot of violent crime, guns included) I feel like that would break the brains of American hogs tho

I had a situation where a drunk guy pulled a multitool on my dog while I was sitting on my front steps. I was able to scare him off with just words. I am just a 4'11" girl, but I can be very intimidating. His family sent a young girl who was under 100 lbs to go pick up this 40ish year old angry drunk man and get him home. He was across the street yelling at me, and she asked what happened. I told her, and I said it was ok, and it wasn't a big deal. But because he had pulled a weapon on me, my dog, and my roommate, I had had to tell her to call the cops, just in case. She asked if she could use my phone to try to get help. I said no problem, but it was upstairs. So she came in, and I locked the door, just in case. She couldn't reach anyone. When she came back out with me, he was furious that she went in with me. He had stolen a bike across the street and was swinging it at her. He would have broken her ribs if it had connected. So I yelled that she was just trying to make a phone call, because I knew he was just angry and wanted to take his anger out on someone. And I can take hits better because of my past, if I wasn't able to stop him.He came at me, and I was unable to close the door in time. He punched me in the face. In that moment, I had to make a decision. I am good in emergency situations, time seems to slow down. I could either take the hits and let him get his anger out, or fight him. And I would have won. I'm a very good fighter. But I saw the terror on the girl's face. Watching me brutally injure her uncle would have terrified her. So I made a judgement call. I decided to take it. So I dropped and covered my face and ribs and let him hit me. He ended up kicking too. Only my arms got hit, with a grazing blow to the face. They heard cops and ran. I told the cops he fought me, but I was fine, and said I was protecting the girl, and the man was just drunk and angry. But they bumped it up to burglary (which is an even more of an extreme violent crime charge, just because he crossed over the threshold of my apartment). I told them the description, a fucking child, with exactly what she was wearing, that she was innocent, and that the man was in his 40s. They made me do a ride along to canvas. They tried to arrest two black kids that didn't fit the description at all. I am so glad they didn't find them. When the cops "followed up," I argued and said that the burglary charge was insane, but they wouldn't budge. I learned my lesson about calling the cops that day. I will never risk an innocent person being at the mercy of the cops.

When the pro-cops were talking about how dangerous police work is, and why that means they need a gun on them at all times, i wish the anti-cops would have brought up how jobs like pizza delivery and uber-driver etc, are in fact statistically waymore dangerous and lethal. Should all pizza delivery workers be armed then? And if they ever feel threatened in any way, should they then be alowed to get away with opening fire on people too? Perhaps pizza delivery workers should have qualified immunity, like cops? Following the logic of "policing is dangerous there for police must be armed at all times", then i guess this does also aply to pizza delivery work too. Edit: all i hear from the cops trying to justify their own right to bare arms are arguments for better gun regulations in general tbh.
Ok but do Uber drivers and pizza delivery guys have to actively engage with gunmen????? No mate. Same argument could be made with soldiers or firefighter, way less firefighters die in fires than civilians so should firefighters not have protection? That’s your argument

However a family friend’s brother was a cop and a guy knocked on his window and when he rolled the window down he got shot with a shotgun in the head. However I totally think the cops are way scarier and people should fear the police and have reasons to. And I understand that cops may go into situations where they have fear but I think it is a lot less often than the people they encounter or approach are scared of them. Just had to say that I don’t know if it was a common thing that was happening at then time or just happened to a few cops at the time or what…but I do know of one cop that got shot sitting in his car on a break. But that doesn’t means I side with the cops or the people on the cops’ side in this video.

But also! That's the greater conversation about the gun crisis in this country.
"oh, you mean like at Uvalde?"
Theres no way america is that bad where peoole think calling the cops means someones gonna die.
They're a threat, they kill people, lie, plant false evidence, treat almost all illegality as an unforgivable sin, harass people who are literally doing nothing, facilitate situations that can ruin people lives, have racism issues and are trained to be violent while cosplaying as the punisher. Any situation where officers are around and involved is a time to be on alert due to the danger they present. So much so that some people are hesitant to even call the police out of fear for themselves and the other people involved, even if those other people are an actual threat themselves.
@@nitishsingh674Are you serious? Do you know how many times someone calls the cops to help them and *they're* the ones that gets shot? A liquor store owner got killed because he called to cops on some shoplifters and they got there and shot him

Thats literally what most cops are; state sanctioned killers. few actually act as law enforcement, most act like fear demons that prowl the streets. hell, I'm not a criminal and i even get nervous when a cop pulls out and drives behind me, I'm thinking "fuck I hope i don't go a mile above because it could cost me 200, plates up to date? ok cool, nothing to be scanned for? etc etc" thats not how you want to feel around people, regardless of status.

as someone who has family in the deep south....nicole, you didn't have to tell us you were a county cop. trust me, we could tell

And if they ever feel threatened in any way, should they then be alowed to get away with opening fire on people too?
Perhaps pizza delivery workers should have qualified immunity, like cops?
