Eric Bischoff challenged Vince McMahon earlier (on a WCW Monday Nitro and/or a Thunder episode), to come fight Easy E at the PPV. Did Vinnie Mac show up, at all ? No...
ruclips.net/video/z9XaH2nPCS4/видео.html = WWE Network: Eric Bischoff threatens to knock out Mr. McMahon (1 min. 21 sec.) - by: WWE/WWF on Sep 23, 2015; In this countdown of the top 10 most controversial moments of his career, Eric Bischoff challenges Mr. McMahon to a match at WCW Slamboree 1998
I feel like Jim missed the point of what Eric was saying. I don't think he was telling TK to go head to head. It felt, to me, the message was "Stay in your lane, and don't compare yourself to me until you get on my level".
Either way, Eric ran WCW into the ground. WCW doesn't exist anymore. Eric can boast how he went head to head but he lost. He's in no position to coach or give advice.
Jim missed the mark with this; I think it's just as simple as Eric saying that Khan should stop the bs and conjecture & concentrate on putting on a show that brings in new viewers (applicable to WWE also IMO). That's how you really win, not winding up the people who are going to watch no matter what.
i think Cornette may literally have the best Dusty Rhodes impression He has the lisp and the candence down. I smile everytime I hear it or Ernie Ladd i'd love to hear him re-enact an argument between Rhodes and Ladd
On the one hand, Bischoff had a massive head start over Tony Khan because he inherited Jim Crockett Promotions of the old NWA, which still had a large, built in fan base when he took over. On the other hand, Tony Khan, unlike Ted Turner, thought he could run a wrestling company and be a booker because he was a fan. You could easily argue that Turner hired the wrong people to run his wrestling company, but at least he didn't put himself in charge of booking. He was just an owner, not an EP or booker. Tony Khan, a wrestling fan like Turner, put himself and a bunch of inexperienced wrestlers (in North America anyway) in charge of booking decisions in AEW. That's a mistake even Ted Turner was smart enough not to do.
I'm old enough to remember ECW during it's heyday. Paul Heyman built the entire company around the "us vs. them" mentality. Fans became cultists. They, like the wrestlers, would follow Paul blindly everywhere he went. They overlooked mistakes the company made and made excuses for them all the time. Tony, to a lesser degree, is doing the same thing with AEW. He's emboldening the fanbase and they are overlooking mistakes and making excuses. They're also going out on social media and doing a lot of unpaid PR for the company too to try and convince everyone that this stuff is actually good.
To me the difference is Heyman was the puppet master intentionally pulling those strings. With AEW, the fans who have been wandering and looking for an alternative since ECW and WCW went under, washed up on AEW's doorsteps. Tony seems to be a nice guy who listens to the most vocal of the bunch.
The problem is that ECW fans could acknowledge when the product was bad. AEW cultists think that everything they do is the best ever and slavishly support it, including Meltzer. There's no "Well, that was a bad idea." They doxed and attacked the AEW Botches channel. ECW fans would show up and boo. That's it. Seriously, go to the channel called Tranquilo Club. It's pure AEW propaganda.
@@WarGhoulKharas I'm sorry but that guy has good content. He's just a fan. He doesn't try to start shit. There's a big difference between the whiny and bitchy and those who just like what they like. Fans have WWE NJPW etc channels where they say favorable shit just the same. Ppl like what they like. Why does that get people so mad. Ppl want to point out the AEW weird fans bc it's what is talked about right now, but there'sWWE nerds, HISTORY nerds. They all think they're right no matter what and they're the loudest and most negative. It's nothing new.
@@MilkmanC you could argue the AEW botches guy was just a fan too, he had to be watching a helluva lot of AEW to put together all those botch clips lmao. If you allow Tranquilo Club on the one hand you should allow AEW Botches to exist on the other, there shouldn't be any censorship everybody is a fan in their own way.
I watch AEW until that Orange Pockets joke comes on and then it's change the channel heat. Dude is like 2000 Jeff Jarrett, stale, a joke in a bad way, terrible and Just go away. I take some of it back, at least Double J was Mid-carder at best. Orange Pockets is low tier gymnasium backwoods at best and that's pushing it
AEW it seems are prematurely dumping the Gatorade on themselves after performing less than awful in a flag football scrimmage, not the superbowl like they believe they have won...
@@al5306 WCW let Goldberg win "173" matches in a row and STILL felt like it could have been stretched further. There's no way they would be patient enough to let someone get anywhere near 100 straight wins haha
Well, he's not lying. Stop talking on social media and concentrate on your product. And yeah, remember, Ted Turner called Vince and told him, "Am in the wrasslin bizness Vince". He did it out of competition.
The biggest problem that companies have when they want to reach that national level is that they ALWAYS start doing goofy sports entertainment. TNA did it when they went to Spike TV. AEW did it when they got on TNT. Nobody offered anything different. It was still just goofy sports entertainment with different people. When WCW was beating WWF in the 90's, they were doing pro-wrestling AND had big stars. CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, and Adam Cole aren't Hulk Hogan or Randy Savage. WCW eventually started doing sports entertainment in '99, '00, and '01, but those were also the years that they didn't turn a profit. If you're going to compete, make something that's actually different. Don’t try and out-silly Vince McMahon. He’ll always win.
WWF vs WCW grew both audiences, that's why 10 million people were watching at that time. AEW loses viewers in both shows every week and WWE struggles to maintain. I'll disagree with Cornette a bit. WCW was dead in the water in the early 90s, whatever long term fans of JCP there were...they were gone by the early 90s. WCW was bleeding money and Eric turned it around. Give Bischoff his credit.
@@darksideon What's crazy too is the facts these "demos" they rely on for 18-49 didn't even fit for me and all of my friends watching Nitro/Raw every Monday, yet we STILL bought every single piece of merchandise imaginable. I agree with Bischoff telling Tony to shut up because it's a dumb move for Tony, but Corny did have good points too about Bischoff back then and Tony now, both are really not that comparable when it comes to circumstances. Bischoff was in a much better position when he fought McMahon compared to where Tony is right now. I'll give Corny credit for pointing that out.

The thing about the artwork by Travis is that it's never just a simple representation of the content. It's always almost a caricature of something very random yet representative of the content.
Tony should take as much advice as possible from vets. His promotion has reached its peak until they sign more recently released guys so he shouldn’t be trying to compete with WWE at all and he need to stop clowning himself on twitter.

Damn, Jim jumping through hoops to try and discredit the perfect criticisms of Tony Khan. Christ. "Different time period" "Not enough stars" "5x less people watching" Smh..
Jim heard Tony listened to the show and hasn't been the same since. Unbiased Jim used to say what he truly thought of what he was seeing without hesitation. Now, he's got Brian letting him know every 5 seconds if he's stepping on Tony's toes, which ruins the premise of the program. Sad really.
While I agree there aren't enough stars, EB gave Goldberg 173 straight wins via squash and 20 years later he's fighting tomorrow at Crown Jewel. He was EB's creation. As far as 5x less people watching today, if you heard that Roman Reigns and Brock/Edge walked through the AEW crowd to grab a mic making people believe there was a WWE invasion, the numbers would be historic levels.
Nobody caught Ted Turner on the right day so he said "yeah let's do it". It was what ted turner wanted, it was his idea to compete with Vince and Turner then brought it to Bischoff by saying "what do we need to do to compete with WWF". Bischoff then said "I would need prime time". To that Turner said "alright Eric, 2 hours every Monday night on TNT".
Verified by the fact Ted personally called Vince to tell him it. He trusted Eric to beat Vince even if for 83 weeks. I don't expect TK's dad to be calling Vince and say Tony's coming for you like Ted did to Vince.
@@whatjimcornetteshouldhavesaid did Ted call him about tv or did he call him after he bought Crockett? Eric also if I remember correctly said he made that primetime comment as a joke.
@@scrappy93 I watched the "Monday Night Wars" doc on Peacock the other day and Vince said that Ted called him about taking him on, in other words, "we're going head to head in your timeslots". @@ronniejdio9411 WWE won the war because Vince had creative control at the end of the day. He didn't have to deal with Hogan not wanting to drop the belt or Nash claiming he could win against ____. What lost Eric the war was he couldn't preventive the egos from doing what they essentially wanted creatively, which is exactly what to expect when TK offered the same to his "EVPs" Bucks/Omega/Cody. Cody has his own show, Bucks have been tag champs, Omega is the champ. Eric wanted TK to learn not to go in business with your friends and TK is ignoring his advice.
Everyone knows Vince and WWE live rent free inside Tony Khan and AEW's heads, at least Eric Bischoff and WCW didn't start barking until they got out in front of WWE then WWF in the 90s. Hell the Brock Lesnar/Roman Reigns segment got more views by itself than their entire Rampage buy in stream
Bischoff was absolutely right about the way Tony Khan talks a big game but doesn't really take risks to bring the fight to WWE. Cornette is always entertaining even when he's firing shots, but his co-host has started to get really annoying.

@@leelohaskin7941 That's the problem with Jim ... he's all or nothing and he'll never change his mind on anything. He and Bischoff actually agree on a ton of stuff
So now you're blaming the network for "not wanting to lose a valuable show"??? THE SHOW CANNOT COMPETE WITH RAW - which is why they don't! WCW and TNA at least tried/had some success. But sure Jim, blame TNT
Still different scenarios. Tony can’t demand where he wants his show to be. WCW was owned by TNT so they could just go ahead and do it. TNA was able to do it because Spike didn’t have anything to lose by trying it. TNT does have something to lose. But AEW wouldn’t compete with Raw so it’d be idiotic to try, it was idiotic when TNA tried too. AEW would be best served if they’d just focus on their product and be an alternative like they originally said they’d do.

God dammit another great episode but it’s just highlights the fact that I am dying to see the podcast with Eric Bischoff and Jim Cornette go on together and tear apart Vince Russo.
WCW's undercard had Eddie , rey , benoit, malenko, juventud , perry, jericho, kidman , Lance and on and on and on....that itself is better than 80% of WWE and AEW rosters
Exactly and if WCW had pushed them instead of allowing the same guys to remain on top maybe things would’ve turned out differently, the egos of guys like Hogan, Nash, Hall ruined that company
@TheJoeGreene Eddie was pushed right as Brock was leaving, Angle was hurt, he didn’t work with Taker for some reason, he could and should’ve worked with Cena again, Reys push felt forced since it was a result of Eddies death and the fans knew it, Benoit was put in the middle of Triple H/HBK feud in the middle of Triple Hs reign of terror, Jericho won the undisputed title but was made a pawn in the Triple H Stephanie feud, Malenko, Juventud, Kidman and Lance storm didn’t have the same potential but having them put on great matches with some good storylines would’ve been fun
@TheJoeGreene The problem with smarks is they believe being able to fly around the ring and put on excellent technical matches automatically equate to being an excellent draw.

That was a shot and idk why they think they are better. 83 weeks has ppl listening because EB was the actual president of WCW and ppl want to know his mindset on what went on during that time frame. Plus he gives good insight into advertising on TV , Ratings , Demos. This podcast is great because Cornette gives you insight into how to build a match and how to make the storyline make sense.
If he had surrounded himself with actual bookers who weren't still wrestlers he'd be much better off. All he had to do was create a new company and let it be known that they weren't interested in competing with the WWE, instead he aligned himself with people who wanted to prove something to themselves. He's making the same mistakes TNA made in 2010.

1. Eric is in no position to talk about what he did in WCW because Eric never had a real creative idea to begin with. He overspent on talent and gave Horrible deals to Hogan, Hall, Nash, Bret Hart, Warrior etc. had no to clue how to use any of the guys at all! Every time a new star from the WWF came over, if they were making more then Hall and Nash, a clause in there contracts kicked in granting them a raise on par or more than the new star. So when Bret Hart was making 3.5 million Hall and Nash got a massive raise instantly! Than Warrior was signed Hall and Nash got another raise, Bill Goldberg got a new deal and if he was making more than Hall and Nash, those two get a bump etc. Hogan’s shitty creative control deal caused nothing but problems along with his over blown salary. Bischoff alienated his younger talent and basic as basically gave Vince to tools to kick WCWs ass! Let’s not forget the Nwo wasn’t Eric’s idea, he stole it from njpw. But yes Eric you’re so great you beat Vince for 83 weeks until those horrible contracts bit you in the ass financially and creatively and your one idea, the NWO, became so boring that he started recycling it into the LWO, NWO red, NWO white, OWN, NWO 2000, etc. And finally with the help of Russo sank WCW. Today people don’t remember your 83 weeks, they only know that WCW went out of business and it’s because of Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo.
The message I got from EB was don't make the same mistakes as some of yours listed. It would probably start with not making your friends (EVPs). Omega is champ, Bucks have been tag title champs, Rhodes has his own show, etc... I had never heard of NJPW before the NWO so it felt fresh here in America and felt like an actual WWF invasion. You can trash him for the downfall, but the fact he forced WWE's hand to become the Attitude era was the best thing to ever happen to WWE. Before that we got to see Doink the freaking Clown and hockey player gimmicks like the Goon. If you watch the entire 15 min clip from Eric, he has a lot of high praise for Tony, but just warns not to get a big head/make early mistakes. You can't tell me signing CM Punk/Bryan Daniel/Adam Cole wasn't TK's version of Hogan/Nash/Hall so by your logic he's stealing from Eric.

Corny all the top stars in AEW came from WWE. WTF does Tony Kahn know about wrestling ??
eric was right
Oh hi, Ryan Satin!
I love South Park style draws!
Bring back WCW style rings. Loved the huge impact sound on slams.
Ah yeah, the old artstyle's back! No offense to the guest artists, but this style's just so classic.
Never thought I'd say this but has Jim completely missed the point here!? I think Bischoff is saying for him to stop acting like he's in the 96 situation not to actually put himself head to head this second.
Tiny has infected Jim
Welcome back Travis!!!!
Oh, how I have missed seeing Tony's "Adderall Eyes" staring at me from a Corny thumbnail. May the art gods bless you, Travis.
Just say you agree with Eric. It won't hurt you.
Man these shows have become very similar to the tone of Soy boy Sapp, Cosplay ALvarez, and Licky Meltzer (and acne bix, and all the other lame) dirt sheet writers. SMH. Jim Cornette defending AEW LOL
Maaaan I just said this really was my favorite podcast for like 4yrs straight but since CM Punk came to AEW,I barely listen anymore and Brian is just flat out unbearable.
@@TheeCoachg I feel that! It was always an enjoyable honest discussion about where the business is today. Now it seems as if Brad Shepard (look him up on Twitter if not familiar) was not lying when he reported AEW and Jim came to an agreement. Because after that was reported Jim never denied it, he only bashed the guy and Last has finally been able to let his neckbeard enjoyment out.
A lot of people wait for the podcasts and clips to be on youtube. Like obviously we do
The fucking shaaaaade at the end lol. I love it.
the lap dog is sending shots lol
SIGH!!!
"Eric challenged Vince to a fight"
IN RESPONSE TO DX INVADING NITRO!!
*Don't let facts ruin you shitting on WWE/people you dislike"
Aside from guys he's just never gonna like (Young Bucks, Omega, modern day Jericho), these two podcasts of Cornette's are like 2/3 AEW coverage, either positive or "Brian Last qualifies and makes excuses for something on AEW he's lukewarm about", for each of them. I was actually forwarding through a shitload of the Drive Thru that came out today....something I've rarely had to do. Might be time to just start exclusively looking on here at the uploads and pick and choose subjects I actually want to hear Jim talk about.
@@KClouisville AMEN & AMEN!!
Sad timeline when they upload "Rampage clips" AND "Rampage full show review"; posting the same thing twice isn't bonus content!!
And the BIGOTRY of "Eric mentioned TK begging views" while THIS WEEK they've posted:
"TK and Urban Meyer/Jags"
"TK leaked PPV results"
"TK's comments on Ted Turner"
"TK - world's most beloved billionaire"
It's barely Thursday morning- yet enough TK videos for a daily dose... fuck bigots!!
@@darrengordon-hill "The Most Beloved Billionaire" bit is the most egregious.....it's like: did you have to come up with another reason to talk about Tony Khan by using some non-scientific half-assed "study". And Jim can act like people don't see the subtle and not so subtle changes in how AEW and Khan are talked about on this show...listen to Jim a year/year and a half ago when he talked about Tony Khan....it was pure vitriol and bile. Now, he'll still criticize him but it's almost with a "tough love" kinda fatherly way....so you add that to a co-host who's become the podcast's own version of Uncle Dave in regards to AEW and the slow whittling away of any WWE product they actually watch.....an honest person can see why Cornette claims people are saying he's going to AEW. Now I don't believe that.....I just know the whole pitch and tone of this show has changed drastically since that AEW pay per view earlier this year.
