    Priest's Ballard biography is being completed by Nina Allan, his wife. Chris wrote at least 50,000 plus words of the book, quite a bit of this while he was ill in hospital. I'm glad that more people seem to be getting into Adam's work at last. Nice work, Jon.

    And thank you, Jon, for the editing - it would´ve allowed me to watch it piece by piece. However I was so hooked that I watched it all through.

    That was a pleasant surprise. I have read 'Snow' which started off really great. I have a Thing' about ice and snow (see what I did there). I found the second half of Snow not as enjoyable as the first half. The interrogation sequence didn't do it for me and as a result I have never bothered to pick up anymore of his work.
    Add to that, the length of the video and I didn't think I would get very far through this.... well... Today I have been building bookcases so I thought I would stick it on in the background but found myself getting more into this than I expected and sat and watched most of it, abandoning the important bookcase building task. I did wonder in parts who was actually interviewing who!
    Summary- will need to locate a couple more and invest some more time to him, after giving us few, some of his precious time it only seems right.
    I hope his new book sells really well and he can afford a bulb for his study (I also have a thing about lighting as you know Jon).
    Andy

      @SciFiScavenger  3 месяца назад

      Hi Andy! Yes, i did feel a little smug about my lighting being much better than his. 💡💡💡 I'm really pleased you found it interesting enough to distract you from the important business of shelf building! As i was editing it I did feel it felt more like a chat than an interview, which is much preferable I think. More by luck than judgment. I've read a few of his books now (not The Snow, yet) and each has its merits. They are all interesting, for sure. Thanks for watching 👀!

    I first met Adam in 1975. We were both 10 years old and in the same class at school. The one thing that seldom comes across about him is how incredibly quick witted and funny he is, even back then. However, he needs to shave off the moustache. He looks a bit like Miss Grove, the teacher from Class 10.

    The madness of collecting:
    I would love and appreciate find quality top-notch books in my collection, but I'm even more interested in assembling the library I want out of good deals found in the wild. This can lead to frustration.
    Some books I will just not find, some books I'll only find at a price that reminds me I could have ordered it at any time.
    And then I see RUclips videos of people just hunting for those high-end scores so they can flip them- which means they are systematically surgically removing them from the churn so that people like me will not find them & and that is actively aggravating.
    I'm glad you two touched on this.
    I'm glad you two touched on so many topics!
    An interview with Adam Roberts about Christopher Priest!😂

    • @SciFiScavenger
      @SciFiScavenger  2 месяца назад +1

      I find it depressing to see a "book haul" which is in fact a "books i bought cheap so you suckers can buy em off me for more $$", a thinly disguised ad, really. Good luck with your collecting. It is much more satisfying to find books in the wild, and the purist way to do it too, but I'm just too impatient to rely solely on that. Thanks for watching 👀!

    What a wonderful surprise to see get churned ip by the algorithm! I missed that you had interviewed Adam Roberts!
    I really want to support, but as a newer interviewer I think you need to listen a little bit more, and worry less about your reactions: he was giving you an amazing anecdote about his Revelation inside the Burgess archives And you cut him off to tell him that you haven't read that book yet, but you will. Don't you wonder what amazing bit of knowledge was lost in that exchange?
    I don't say it to be mean. I certainly don't want you to feel bad, as you so wonderfully arranged and executed an interview with an author most sci-fi readers don't even know about! And delivered it to me for free!!! I've worked with a lot of performers, and a lot of public speakers and it's just something that jumps out at me from the exchange & thought it would be valuable for you to hear.
    Still, there's so much good here, it will take me awhile to get through the whole thing.
    All the best.

      @@SciFiScavenger No man, I mean it in the best way possible. You've gotten a number of really good interviews under your belt. You just get excited. That's normal. I don't want you to beat yourself up, just be cool & don't worry. You may be "a normal guy," (as you said) but you are also more than just a guy with access to amazing charity shops. You put in the time, and read a lot of SF in the past year (and longer) in fact more than I have! That's real accomplishment and experience that you can stand on!

    Without YT creators like you, Jon, and many others in this genre who have YT channels (and we know and love them all) a talented writer such as Adam would have only the exposure provided by his publishers(s). I feel these interviews, although a bit long and hard for most enthusiasts to find time for the whole thing, are important insofar as they offer an added layer of exposure for the authors, compliments of you and your peer's efforts and time spent doing so. It's not the most "views-rewarding" thing to do, but it is a selfless and conscientious thing to do.
