I‘d like to call the soundtrack of Turrican 2 the score of my life. I‘m so in love with those tracks. And the symphonic recordings are absolutely stellar, listening to them on repeat for years.
Nice... the Sound Monitor from Chris was my entry to the self-made electronic music. I loved and used this program a lot and even phoned with Chris to ask him a question. Memories of the 80's. Many greetings from Germany.
Was the friend who helped port the music to St Jochen Hippel? They both did such an incredible job. Love hearing how they got around the limitations from the time.
As a teenager I took the intro music from Turrican 2 at music class when my friends all chose the last hit from Guns and roses or Michael Jackson. I got so embarrassed when we all listened to it, nobody else would understand my choice 😂
Quite recently an AGA version of Turrican II was created for they Amiga. They didn't touch the music, it was already perfect. Great interview, thanks for doing this Chris & Bill.
I used to hang around in the local computer store on a Saturday back in the day. They had lines of computers setup (C64/Amstrad/Atari/Amiga etc), I had a C64 at the time and was blown away by the Amiga, but couldn't afford one yet. I remember them showing off Amiga R-type and I was blown away by the title music. This is before the days of youtube/internet, so it's not like you could go home and listen to that music again unless you actually had an Amiga and the game, so often when I would go there on a Saturday, I would ask them to put the R-Type intro on the Amiga so I could hear it again.
This is a really great point Dave. It is easy to forget things like this. I remember connecting my cassette recorder to my Amiga so I can listen to my favorite game music when not at my Amiga. Thanks for sharing your story
so honored to be part of the audience yesterday 🙏 during the live i even get a new youtube subscribers from the chat 😅 , great interview, i will look this replay head rested !
I agree with Chris about his melodies being the key ingredient. Harmonically, he's rather 'traditional' shall we say, but he could write crazy catchy tunes and he had really solid structure and great transitions between parts.
Amazing interview Bill. Wish i was around to catch this live as Chris is such a legend not only musically... but his skills with being i guess the father of trackers that spawned a whole new wave of awesome musicians. I did get to watch it all the way threw shortly after Live on your twitch chan. Good man! /RDS
Cheers RDS. I really appreciate the kind words. I did a lot of research for this interview so the nice comments mean a lot! And big thanks to Chris for all his time
Thank you for the great music which helped shape our Amiga Gaming memories in them years Chris. Turrican games were out of this world, endless hours of great fun. The music I liked best was from Jim Power in Mutant Planet. The music in the levels was mighty impressive, the guile and craft to produce something that good on that 16-bit machine still bewilders me. Simply sublime work.😎👌
A really great interview with THE maestro himself! 😃 58:55 Actually there is a special Atari STE version of Giana Sisters by P.Petari, which uses this exact orchestral version as ingame music (among other enhancements)!
A great interview with fablous Chris Huelsbeck! But why you didn't credited Jochen Hippel name for TFMX7V 4-in1 channel mixing routine? Is a talented colleague title enough?
Remember this was "Listing des Monats" in the german c64 magazin - and it took hours to type all those HEX numbers until you had your program at home. Today it is just a click away
Thank you very much for doing this amazing interview!! Chris Huelsbeck you are a true legend!!
Great interview. Thanks AmigaBill, thanks Chris and thanks to Chris' grandmother!
Thanks so much Gansteeth! I put a lot of prep into this one so your comment makes me feel great like all the work was worth it 👍🏼

Thanks so much Gadget! I really appreciate it!
Was lucky enough to see him perform live at Amiga37! What a legend. Even today his stuff sounds fresh and timeless, regardless of the hardware used.
So true. The music is timeless. And his performance at Setpatch Party rocked 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

Well, you clearly had the best taste!
Haha, yes I can relate to that. Oh man, when you wrote "I got so embarrassed" I immediately felt that. :D
What an amazing and humble artist, one of my heroes back then. Very inspiring!
Thank you very much!
Cheers Sledge! Chris is such a great guy. Thanks for watching as always!

Oh yeah I love the AGA version! They did an amazing job and it was VERY a smart not to touch the music!

I still love shades. Such an iconic piece. And you could run the routine in your basic programs in the background.
A really great interview with THE maestro himself! 😃

Thanks for the kind words and cool fact about the Atari St version. Glad you enjoyed!
This guy and the guy who made the music for Shadow Of The Beast are the best videogame music composers.
Yes Chris is the best. And David Whittaker legendary music for Shadow of the Beast
I love that Chris mentioned the Ensoniq-SID connection. Bob Yannes and his team made an amazing contribution to the world.
Yes, that was a really neat story and I never knew that
Nice 😀
Thanks!

After looking at this straight with an indelible smile on my face now I want very hard to see an interview with Rob Hubbard, the SID god.
i still listen Turrican music album..
My favorite is Jim Power.
It is a great one!

LOL! He is still great
Been a while since we have seen Anthony on the show, is he still around or has he moved on?
Damn, I've been pronouncing his name wrong for 30 years. :( (Thought it was "he-ools beck")
Ha ha! Well, I think I may actually be able to pronounce it a little better, with the proper German pronunciation
I can't stop laughing that man looks like Millhouse from the Simpsons, Yo Millhouse😅
