Air to air combat can be challenging, but keep in mind that using datalink is important, but the best pro tip is to use your eyeballs to find the enemy targets to take them out. In this flight on the Syria contention server we are flying against enemy aircraft and I visually spot an F-15 which blisfully flies by until it gets a heatseeker missile slamming into it for a win. Splash 3. but the lesson is look for tiny dots which are airplanes in the sky around you.

Keep in mind it's really easy to see those dots in VR. Lil harder to see full rez on a wide screen. Great kill!

There are a number of videos on YT where real life fighter pilots have flown DCS, and the one thing that's immediately apparent is that the real life pilots have their heads out of the cockpit but also on a swivel, constantly looking around. Whereas sim pilots frequently spend most of their time looking forward.
Can't remember the author, but in one of the books about cold war aviation, the quote "the pilots who survive WW3 will be the ones with tired eyes and sore necks".
It's funny too that people complain about not being able to see the tiny speck of an opponent in DCS and to those people: welcome to the world. One thing that's remained constant since the Red Baron through today: the vast majority of pilots shot down never see their opponent. Nobody likes to face that harsh reality that it's not some chivalrous mano e mano skill competition, as much as it's often one pilot who gets the jump on another.

Indeed, especially if you're flying 80s or cold war period with ground controllers who can vector a plane with a. EO system like a flanker on a unsuspecting Nato jet who has only radar and its rwr doesn't hear anything until the Fox1 is alrwady heading in
