    Some of it will live on. There will be future lore! Let's hope it comes in different enjoyable forms :)

    How are you feeling? Let me know below in the comments..
    Well - there will still be more Overwatch 2 lore, cinematics and 'story missions' - but, they are now being divided up into seasonal content as the talent tree/progression piece fades away..
    I'm still hopeful of a fun experience - guess we'll see what it manifests as in Season 6!

    • @PyroManiacOW
      @PyroManiacOW Год назад

      Actually for all the evidence shows, jeff leaving is indication that he did not want to make the hard decisions(maybe because he didn't agree with them), like splitting pvp and pve for example. Maybe what he had in mind would be better, but would likely take much longer to deliver, I'm happy the new leadership is making the hard calls, although the hero missions cancel is disappointing nonetheless

    • @Capnsb
      @Capnsb Год назад +1

      @PyroManiacOW I mean it doesn't necessarily mean he couldn't make the "hard decisions" he had already proved himself by making a failed idea successful then when you are trying to tell the higher ups that the way they want to go is wrong but they won't listen it's better to leave than to fall in line for something you don't agree with. This definitely isn't the right call whatsoever, but it's what was made. Hopefully people who continue the game will love it and maybe I am wring but with no PVE in the capacity that was pitched I can't muster any excitement. On top of just getting codexs for lore after all this time seems kind of lackluster

The signs were there from the moment PvP released first due to it taking priority in their own words. lets not pretend that its a money or time problem. Between the extortionate cash shop and the fact they basically left overwatch 1 on life support for over a year, they have more than enough money and time but what we have is a slight visual update and a new game mode to replace a game mode they cut, its clearly a management problem. Its likely bobby kotick and other higher ups are responsible for the current state of overwatch and ofcourse they'll receive 0 repercussions and likely a fat bonus and a self pat on the back at the end of the financial year while the devs actually making/designing the game get overworked and under paid while receiving abuse from the community despite the people above them being the actual problem.

Without budget, they can't pay their staff, contract their VAs for a recording session, etc. For them to get approval, they'll need to guarantee a return of investment, because there is no point in giving more money if they can't make it back.

While I understand the reasons behind this announcement, honestly there's not much of a reason for me to stick around anymore. Simple fix for this. Ban microtransactions in North America. It's really that simple. People wonder why games are nowhere near as good as they used to be but the answer was always right in front of your faces.
    You get rid of microtransactions and it will force companies to bring out top tier games to grab people's attention and make profit that way. This is how it was back in the day and look at all the amazing titles we were blessed with?

    I believe it is necessary to hold Blizz accountable as a company by imposing financial responsibilities. They should be obligated to reimburse every individual who bought the WatchPoint 2 pack with the expectation of receiving PVE content in the future. Although it is impossible to fully compensate content creators for the years they invested based on Blizzard's promises, it is important to provide them with a meaningful monetary compensation.

Outside of that singular element it is literally _JUST_ a patch update that frankly downgraded the experience in order to up the graphics (which were already good) and shorten queue times. Even more annoying is the later point will continue to be an issue as they're not focusing on what is causing the problem, just slapping a bandaid on the symptoms; tank and healers players leave because Blizzard keep trying to make them DPS and DPS players just aren't going to play those roles because they aren't satisfied with the gameplay of helping _others_ shine (which is fine, play the roles you actually like!).

    The Overwatch Team is so incompetent it's kind of hilarious. I stopped playing consistently after the last Year of the Pig. The meta just wasn't fun. The one thing I was looking forward to was the PVE. *SURELY* they couldn't fuck that up right? Well, here we are. There is no excuse besides greed. Especially because OW1 and the somehow superior lootbox model died for...what? A new format and new skins? A new game mode? New heroes, all of which could have been put into a series of updates? Unfortunately for both me and the company they just won't receive another penny from me. The ONLY reason I can think of for killing Overwatch 1 and making this trash was to force use of the battle pass.
    At least I had fun content creators like you to make the journey through the first game's lifespan more fun. I remember eagerly looking up all the character interactions and lore bits they put into each update and it's genuinely a shame I couldn't care less anymore. The worst part is how much they still strung people along, hyped it up, cashed in on the goodwill created by the hype, helped OW2's "early access launch" (how meaningless that turned out to be) and weren't transparent at all for way too long after realizing they couldn't deliver and after making the decision to pivot away.
    It would have been disappointing already if they announced it when OW2 launched, but at least that would have been somewhat fair. This now is scummy and borders on scammy false advertising. I know OW2 is free and we didn't pay for PvE content we didn't get, they still benefited financially from the hype of the OW2 project as a whole, which included the expectation of a PvE story campaign, with skill trees, with hero progression, all that. And you'd be surprised how many people made purchasing decisions based on wanting to support the devs so that they can deliver a great PvE experience in the future, kind of like a crowdfunding investment. Crowdfunding something and not delivering, what is that called? A scam.
    This isn't EXACTLY 1:1 that since it was all indirect and technically we spent money on things we got, but in a roundabout way it was that, at least in part. Not sure it's enough for some kind of class action lawsuit or whatever but I wouldn't be that surprised if it comes to that and they end up having to issue at least partial refunds. I'd take it, at this point. And I am someone who took forever for the overall cynicism to rub off on and I was usually the one going to bat for the game, even during content droughts and whatnot.
    And it makes absolutely no sense to defend them for this. Yes, the scope would have been huge. A lot of heroes with multiple skill trees is obviously a huge undertaking. But how long does that take to realize? It was playable in some form, publicly, in 2019. Has probably been in planning and development since at least 2017 to even get to that point. They had plenty of time to realize that it wasn't doable. Not just in the 4 years since we saw it, but in the time it was developed. At most it should take a few prototypes and some planning to go "whew... that's a ton of stuff to do... not sure we can deliver on this and have it feel like a polished blizzard game" and scrap it then, before hyping everyone up and making money off that hype. And before they use that as an excuse for slowing down on OW1 content. Before using that as an excuse for delay after delay on OW2. Before using that as an excuse for a lackluster launch.
    This is at the end (so far) of scandal after scandal, bad news on top of bad news.
    I love(d) the game to bits. I appreciate so much about it and have some personal connections with my time with the game that I will never forget. I never was the guy to go "bruh I'm done, dead game, I'm uninstalling" but for about 1-2 years my engagement and enjoyment has gone down steadily. I've been playing way less and have enjoyed what I played way less most of the time. My positivity has hard to keep up. And I am now considering leaving it behind.
    If I don't do so now and Season 5 sucks, I probably will uninstall for good then. If Season 6 sucks, I don't like the PvE stuff, I don't like the mode (probably Headquarters lol), I don't like the new Support Hero or any of what they're adding then, I am definitely out because there's nothing left at that point. The game got stale, it has a shitty aftertaste even during the better times now, there is little to look forward to and I haven't enjoyed the vibes in the community in years, which used to be a big reason why I loved the game in the first place. This is my "I'm getting too old for this shit" moment, I guess.

      This is going to sound a trite summary, but I understand the above. It's hard for me to answer every point on mobile as your comment gets squashed down ans it's long!
      The dev or business, process here, ambition aside, has indeed gone awry someplace. Personally will see how season 6 is. The decent thing about free to play is that at least, we can always pop back. If the story missions are somehow available in future and not limited time 🤣

      I tend to do that.
      But yeah. After sitting on it for a few hours, I decided to uninstall the game for now. First time since.. I think since 2016 that I've done so. Maybe having a full-on break from the game for a few months will do me good anyway.
      But I will at least keep one eye on your channel and on what they're adding in Season 5 and 6 and will possibly give the Season 6 stuff a go while trying to keep an open mind.

    @Penamesolen Год назад +1

    To be honest, I am disappointed, but I do not know how reasonable it is; I will attempt to just explain my thought process of it all.
    When they revealed the plan for an Overwatch 2, I did not understand WHY, especially when they said that one could still play with OW1. I dislike unnecessary numbers and subtitles that will split up tagging, and I found it unnecessary at the time. Then I got the impression that they were making OW2 because they needed/"needed" a new game for a new game system/graphic system/whatever it is called that would easier support PvE and the like. I thought at the time that they had made OW to be PvP strictly, and the PvE content over the two-three years had been a fun side-project that surprisingly became popular, but the system of the game was not built to support bigger projects that couldl tell better stories. And so they decided to make OW2, which PvP-wise would be identical to OW1 but would have easier time making PvE.
    So for the next... three-four years, I assumed PvE was the main reason for OW2's existence. I mean, I am well aware of marketing and wanting to sell the same thing twice that game companies do with their IPs, but I assumed the PvE was the reason. Many years pass with nothing, the scandals happen, and they apparently rushed OW2 out since four years with nothing in a game meant to be regularly updated was a huge risk that had not yelded any reward. But, because of that, PvE was not ready, and so when I logged in excited to finally play a story, I got OW1 but different, mostly in ways I did not personally like. As much as I dislike the gambling probllem of loot boxes, I found OW1's variant to be among the fairer ones and I liked how using money was a choice, not how it is now. In my head they made OW2 lesser than OW1 in order to better sell things and get money.
    At any rate, OW2 finally came out, but in my eyes slightly worse and without what I thought was its main reason for existing. A year passes, no news of the PvE. Or, there is a humourous article where the devs said "PvE coming sooner than you think"... which was hilarious to me because I THOUGHT the PvE would be AT LAUNCH.
    Then this final nail in the coffin, and I am disappointed, yet not really, because it feels like just the fact that they released OW2 without the reason for OW2 existing should have been a blood red flag for me. I guess I feel numb and tired. OW used to be a game I really enjoyed, its story and characters were fun in a casual way and I enjoyed how it seemed to be a game for gamers of all skill levels and preferences. Then as they focused on OW2, changes happened to my favourite heroes due to the competitive e-sport meta, focusing on the 1% of players so that my casual enjoyment diminished. Heroes I liked to play changed to basically become new characters I was told to relearn, in Symmetra's case almost rerelearn, and OW2 changed even more of my favourite heroes, and did not deliver any of what I thought they promised. I know nothing of video game design, so it is just how I thought, but looking at the game, knowing it was free to play, I kept wondering why they even bothered with OW2, again with splitting tags and such on the internet, when it was basically OW1 but less, maybe a bit prettier graphics and visual redesigns that I did not care for.
    So yeah. From beginning to end OW2 has always been for me a case of me being forced something I did not want and did not see the need for, and all I am left with is the numb feeling of having my excitement for years wasted, and feeling sorry for the developers whose time has been utterly wasted by this. And now that is gone. Sure, they will give something in the future, but too little, too late. Or, can I even call it "little"? It has been FOUR YEARS since the announcement of 2019, in which they gave us nothing. They had the Junkenstein's Bride story, that was fun, sure. But then back to nothing. I found other games to play. The scandals made it so that I did not want to return. The longer and more absense, the less I found myself caring even when there were updates. I cannot care for something that is not there.
    I already uninstalled the game and BattleNet to get extra space on my computer. Maybe when season 6 arrives I will take a look, but I do not know. We will have to see.
    As said yourself, I have nothing to do with video games and cannot fathom what goes on behind the scenes, it is just how I have felt during these years. I cannot fathom how it must feel like for the people working on this mess.
