I think they are around the same strength level. The outcome of a potential fight will likely be more dependent on the area and circumstances of the conflict.

Let’s not forget at Marine Ford, old Beard stopped using his oxygen machines and taking his medicine at least a week before the battle. The dude used machines that fed him oxygen and he ditched them to fight in this battle just so he wouldn’t garner sympathy from his enemies. Imagine if he was able to breath without restriction.

Prime Whitebeard
✓ Known as the strongest in the world, whose vivre card says that he obtained this title long before the great pirate era, that is, long before Roger died.
✓ Possessor of the 3 types of haki with at least advanced both armament and conqueror. A haki level so high that it was on par with the pirate king who is understood to be the person with the strongest willpower in the world. Well, WB had the same willpower but was oriented towards something different from having the one piece, which was to raise a family and protect defenseless villages.
✓ He carried one of the 12 Saijo O Wazamono (supreme grade sword). It is the highest level type of sword, we only know of top characters that carry one, which are Roger and Mihawk, Shanks probably has one too.
✓ Possessor of the gura gura no mi, one of the most powerful devil fruits. What was seen in Marineford was surprising, but it is clear that it is not all that he is capable of doing, we do not even know what the awakening and / or final attack would be like.
✓ Impressive physical stats. Impressive strength superior to a giant, with which he could stop the Moby Dick with one arm. Immense stamina and stamina taking over 460 attacks including a sword thrust close to the heart, a beam of light from Kizaru to the chest, and Akainu's magma attacks to the internal organs and face. Agility to make big jumps and quickly appear after Akainu without him noticing. All this in his old age and illness. In his prime, he had enough stamina to fight 3 days against Roger.
✓ The trio of legendary marines had a lot of respect for him. Garp called him the king of the seas. Sengoku said that WB was the strongest and that he could destroy the world. Tsuru said that even if she retreated to the end of the ocean, there would be no safe place left in the world when someone faced the power of the gura gura.
✓ Finally, he died standing up.
Bro did you not see that clash he had with Roger ? If you have to jump 50 ft in that air to match somebody you are several times weaker than them .Don't believe me? get the weakest person you know or smallest person you know and tell him to jump and swing down I guarantee you you will not be able to match them even if you're several times stronger than them meaning that Roger was in a completely different level in the trash white beard was

I honestly believe "the strongest man alive" doesn't even mean physically. Whitebeard could have just ended the world in a melancholic phase, plain and simple. Still, he chose not to.
Bcuz it is Strength why he's called Strongest Man, didn't you hear Sengoku story about Rocks. Rocks was winning until Roger showed up and helped Garp, It's possible Roger entered his Prime earlier than Whitebeard and Garp that's why he could match up against Rocks.
The World Government kept it secret and gave Garp all the praise bcuz they didn't want the people knowing Roger a Pirate helped the Marines bcuz that shows weakness on their side humiliation.
Power wise Rogers abilities was far superior than anyone in their ERA, there was a story of Drunk Roger almost Destroyed an entire Country bcuz someone said something about his Friends.
He was wrecking people with only his Haki he doesn't have a DF, he was feared by his raw power.
But not gonna lie I like Whitebeard better than Roger.

I wonder how Strong Roger was prior to him being ill. Even during that one clash with Primebeard (during the Oden Flashback), he was still suffering from his illness at the time (why Crocus was on the crew at that time period).
I would love a mini series or something telling whitebeards story. how he got his fruit, some of his epic fights, etc

Whitebeard got the title of WSM even before the great age of pirates. That means, he's above Roger. Dude could have become PK but literally helped Roger become PK. My man built different.

@@rinka3768 True. I still have Roger and Gar as equals though. Using a blade is just another way of transmitting your haki. But yeah people ignore that WB and Roger fought multiple times. WB said they fought so many times he remembers every single face on Roger’s ship. The one we saw was there last duel. They weren’t even serious on that one.
Oda is such a genius man. He knows we love to speculate, and he releases details about a massive battle involving all of the strongest characters, and gives us the results of said battle, but doesn’t release any of the details of how it transpired when there are thousands of scenarios that could’ve played out. Now we’re sitting here speculating and having fun with it, getting us more engaged in the story and its characters. Eventually there will be a huge pay off where we see what happened at God Valley and Oda will blow our minds once again while allowing all of these powerful characters to shine in their own way. He just knows what he’s doing.

Whitebeard actually kept up with Roger. Kidd can't even keep up with Luffy even with Law's help. Luffy's actual rival is the bomb that KO'd Big Mom.

Strongest is different from Powerful. Strongest means physical strength. Power wise like Haki Roger got that in the bag, Whitebeard couldn't beat his own Captain Roger and Garp did though. But it was probably mainly Roger bcuz on Sengoku story Garp was having problems against Rocks until they decided to Tag Team with Roger. But since the Government didn't want the world to know Roger helped Garp got all the attention and praise.

Whitebeard as power to destroy the world and in the war his devil is the best power to sink any ship or destroy any army and island. His devil fruit powder makes him more dangerous but in 1v1 i would go for roger
I always thought that the term "destroy the world" was a coin to those spots/island/volcanoes in the new world and if they're destroyed it will literally sink the new world. this was in film Z btw so its not cannon.
Well I have watched lots of animes LOL, and so usually a simple dream character such as "I want to have a normal family" is stronger than a character like "I want to be pirate king". honestly, I like that because its common in animes but that makes the whole story debatable and so more fun ;). But it's true that people downplay devil fruits because image law with the most broken Haki just throwing other devil fruit users in the water. lmao, but also, I forgot if whitebeard awakened his fruit or not but if he didn't image what he could do.
True son, a fraud, an experiment or a clone, or whatever he might be, people should give more respect to Weevil when it boils down to power scaling. Kizaru said that Weevil is as strong as young Whitebeard... If Kaido and Big Mom are in the top 10, then Weevil should be there as well.

i mean im sure he meant physically. Weevil lacks the strongest paramecia, the gura gura no mi, the conquerors haki that WB had and he is clearly dumb as a rock so he lacks the IQ. or even the weapon. WB blade was one of the supreme grades.
uh he is in no way top 10. Intelligence plays a role both in someone's planning as well in how well they are able to fight.

I wouldnt say Roger's ambition was superior in any way, its simply differant Whitebeard said it himself when he said he found a treasure even greater than the One piece, for Roger the One piece was his whole life ambition, for WB his familly was.

Roger and luffy are at their strongest when they have to protect their crew.
And there is Whitebeard who literally considers his entire crew his family.
Whitebeard was the strongest because he simply had to be.

I don’t actually think Rocks was stronger than Garp or Roger, cuz Garp and Roger had to team up sure, but they had to fight the whole of Rocks’s crew, that included Shikki, Whitebeard, Kaido, and Big Mom, and Rocks ended up dead after the fight. I think in terms of individual strength among the pirates, from highest to lowest it would be Whitebeard, Roger (very extremely close btw), and then a decent gap from Roger to Rocks, definitely a bigger gap than Roger and Whitebeard. If I had to make an estimate I’d say Rocks’s strength was probably similar to Shanks rn, definitely strong enough to contend with Whitebeard, Garp, and Roger, but not exactly as strong let alone stronger as/than any of those characters per say. Instead, I think that he was definitely the strongest of his crew, but remember that at that time Whitebeard wasn’t strong enough to fight the likes of Roger or Garp yet as he wasn’t exactly in his prime yet. And Kaido and Big Mom? Current Luffy with just his advanced haki and gear 2nd would pack both of them even at once. Kaido currently is still in his prime and he was getting his butt kicked until he used his DF and even then it was close, even before Luffy’s DF awakening, and to think current Kaido is now in his prime with full mastery of his haki and DF but still heavily struggled against Luffy. So I’d say Whitebeard at the time when he was part of Rocks’ crew was probs as strong as current Kaido, while Kaido and Big Mom at the time were about as strong as current Sanji or Katakuri at best. Enough to force an alliance between Roger and Garp, but obviously as they were defeated, not strong enough to win.
gthat begs the question tho, why would BM, Whitebeard, Shiki, Shakky, and all this amazing pirates, many w conquerors haki, would join under a man weaker than them. also it was stated that rocks was a more formidable rival to roger, even above whitebeard. Lastly, Kaido puts Rocks in the same tier as roger whitebeard shanks and oden as capable of defeating him. so he is fs up there.
Rocks was probably in his time stronger than wb BM and roger and the rest, they reached their primes after the god valley incident too.
@@ricardorivera7549 that’s what I was saying, if you compared Rocks to everybody else’s prime, it would’ve been different. As it was in their prime, Whitebeard alone could 1v1 Roger for days, so if Whitebeard was as strong as Roger during the god valley incident, Roger and Garp wouldn’t have won. Cuz judging by the fact that Roger and Garp defeated Rocks and his whole crew which included Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom and Shikki then I wouldn’t have made sense if Rocks was stronger than prime Roger. It would’ve made sense that he was a very difficult opponent but also not stronger than prime Whitebeard or prime Roger if his level of strength was similar to Shanks. After all, Kaido placed both Rocks and Shanks on his list, and it would’ve matched up quite nicely, Roger or Garp would’ve struggled a lot fighting him individually, and Whitebeard and the rest of the Rocks pirates before their prime definitely would’ve respected his strength a lot. Meanwhile Roger and Garp together would’ve definitely been able to beat prime Shanks, so it makes sense.

WB and Roger as pretty much equals but WB has the OP fruit along with his incredible physical stats which could change things up
Followed by Garp who is always viewed to be relatively on par with Roger

I think the main problem is they would never really fight each other at their strongest. Roger is Legendary for fighting his best when his men are behind him. But if Roger knows Whitebeard wont wipe out his crew if he falls, he probably can't go all out. Whitebeard at Marine ford waivered for a second because his body couldn't do what he wanted any more. But if his sons future isn't going to be bright in his absence he will find the strength and stamina to take the threat to hell with him. and i don't see roger messing with his boys that much.

Ultimately, I see Roger and Whitebeard as equals. Both could defeat each other, it just depends on circumstances.
And regarding Shiki "never challenging" Whitebeard, we have no way to verify that. Both sailed the seas for decades and almost assuredly ran into each other many times. We don't know the full day to day and every single fight of Whitebeards time as a pirate, so to just 100% declare that Shiki NEVER challenged Whitebeard feels a little misguided.

YES! I was gonna say that, when they fought on that Island for 3 days and they ended it on a technical draw, Roger was already diagnosed with his terminal illness... In his prime and when he was healthy Roger was definitely superior.
They've fought multiple times before that. Also Roger was said to be in peak condition even with his sickness a year prior to that fight in the Edd War.

If WhiteBeard wasn't dying and holding back at the same time he could have easily sank MarineFord to the bottom of the sea. Now imagine such creature in his prime with killer intent he can't lose, all it takes is a single earth quake and the enemy's ship or island will sink to the bottom of the sea, there is no need to fight not that fighting him would have any difference anyway.
