- NBC News’ Gadi Schwartz stopped by a food truck in Los Angeles called Stopbye Cafe where executive chef Justin Tulus is serving up Indonesian cuisine with a twist, from a lemongrass fried chicken sandwich to a sambal tuna bowl that offers up a kick.

Look, I come from a country where fast food is a culture. I have worked for 8 years in Jakarta, and it changed my experience about food. the food there is amazingly good, the spices that are not too strong are just right, and with 1$ you can buy amazingly good food. Indonesian food is really very underated, and when I returned to my country, I felt that all this time I had been eating food that tasted like plastic
So, Where Actually you are come from
@@dhananzzealx strong guess are us, their food have no flavor IF you compare it with indonesian food
Actually Bandung and other Indonesian cities have much better food than Jakarta has. Lol
@@januargumelar3495
That's not the case actually. In Jakarta you can find many cuisines from basically every region and culture from around the Indonesian archipelago and beyond
@@thanosal-titan Of course I knew it. And everybody knows it! 😂😂😂 What I meant is that even if you can find any Indonesian cuisine in Jakarta, it's not the best version. For example, you can find rendang in any city and any town in Indonesia. But does the taste of rendang found in Jakarta the same like the original version of rendang found in Padang and Bukittinggi? Does pempek in Jakarta taste better compared to pempek in the origin city of it, i.e. Palembang?
And if we talk about a wide range of food, the vast majority (NOT ALL) of locals agree that food in Bandung and Bogor IN GENERAL are better than food in Jakarta. Ask any locals about this. Most (not all) will agree.
I think you have a bit of c0mprehension issue even for simple things.
If you heard about spice islands where for millennia European really wanted to come, it's located in Indonesia. They eventually came, and it started colonialism for centuries. It's not a surprise if the Indonesian culinary is full of spicy flavors.
Its lombok island 😂
@@YNTKTS6996 actually molucca islands (maluku).
@Cerdaspedia Indonesia He's just kidding. Lombok (chili pepper) is spicy, isn't it
To put it to perspective, the island of Manhattan - yes THE Manhattan in NY, was traded by the Dutch to the Brits for a 600 ha (1483 ac) island in the Banda sea because it was rich in nutmeg.
Indonesia is why VOC became most valuable company all the time, still beating tech companies and oil companies. Starting from chili pepper in Maluku, they expanded to almost any spices and coffee.
Klo masakan indonesia yg otentik enak2
karna pemerintah indonesia sendiri yang gk mau ngesupport kuliner indonesia ke seluruh dunia karna menurut mereka "gk penting". gk kayak masakan negara lain yang selalu di support ama pemerintah nya sendiri tentang kuliner mereka
Diaspora indonesia sedikit banget buat ukuran negara kita, pun klo ada diaspora, itu profesional/tujuan pendidikan yg biasanya kemampuan masaknya juga nol😂
deuuuh 😂 si paling underrated ... 😂😂😂 kamana atuh underrated
I'm filipino and I love indonesian food. It's one of the most delicious cuisine in South East asia

Global citizens should try Indonesian cuisines!! It's always mouth-watering 🤤😋
Allright. One brother that explain so well about what is Sambal. Big respect to him.
I think one of the many reasons why Indonesian cuisine isn't as popular as it should is that our diasporas seldom stay behind for life to start proper Indonesian cuisine business, since they seem to love their home so much.
When studying in Santa Monica College, in the US long time ago, during the international student day, the Indonesian Student Club (PERMIAS) sold sate and did a fashion show showcasing various traditional costumes from the country in pairs. It was a lot of fun. We also introduced point of interest in Indonesia such as Bali. We got a lot of interest. I believe a diverse country like Indonesia has a lot to offer the world not just for its cuisine but also the culture and points of interest; other than Bali there are Lombok, Labuan Bajo, Raja Ampat, Toba Lake to named just a few. If you can work away from the office, please come to Bali. There are many co working space+small hotels price from as low as usd10+ per day. On weekends you will be spoiled with activities such as diving, white water rafting, cultural show under the moon or during sunset. Bali is known as the island of Gods, or pulau dewata in Indonesian. Hindu is the majority’s religion here. Tourists love to come here. You should try😃👌🤙
Just come and visit us in Danau toba(Toba Lake).
This probably one of the best Indonesian Fusion in US
2:10 If Indonesian said "Spicy" you should believe it...
I've heard about Indonesian food, i will fly to indonesia end of june, cant wait to eat the originaly food
I'm loving the spotlight on this food truck (Stopbye Cafe)! Justin definitely loves cooking and a happy chief equals good food. :D
This bro should make Ayam Geprek Burrito! 😂 Ayam Geprek itself is fusion between western and Indonesian food (fried chicken with local sambal).
i really don't think the western people can withstand the 'killing geprek sambal'... even for some asians, the geprek sambal is extremely spicy. it's just too spicy hot and might spoil the culinary experience.

Ekspresi wajah reporternya terlihat sedikit lebay...
Thank you for putting spotlight on Indonesian cuisine! Greetings from Indonesia 😊
Indonesia food really delicious ❤one if the best cuisine in the world and affordable price
Indonesian foods⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
As Indonesian living abroad myself I can confirm that my homeland foods was terrificly uncompareable. I always trying to recook what I have in my homeland before but always ended in a budget breakdown 😂. While in Indonesia you can cooks delicious meals with insane amount of spices (because it was easy to get and the price also, for example we can get the lemongrass & cytrus leaf in a rural park behind our houses or a neighborhood fence-garden😂)
I agree. In the Netherlands, although there are foods influenced by Indonesian cuisine, they’re not very authentic, and it’s very difficult to find an authentic Indonesian restaurant here
@@leonardowynnwidodo9704 that’s what I want to say tbh. An authenticity ✨

saya sangat menyarankan untuk sering2 eksplor makanan indonesia....
netizen indonesia akan memenuhi komentar dan akun youtube nya akan memiliki pengunjung yg banyak...
I don’t get the Indonesians who complain here when they think carbonara is Italian and Taco Bell Mexican. It’s already stated that it’s a fusion. The food truck introduces Indonesian flavors through vessels that are more familiar to the American public like rice bowl, sandwich, and chow mein.
Demen bgt complain padahal sendirinya paling suka makanan2 campuran aneh kayak spaghetti ayam geprek, mi goreng gochujang, sushi daging sapi, dll
ga pernah coba makanan yg lo sebut smpe skrg. spaghetti with chicken geprek duh etc etc

ADA INDONESIA COY😮🎉
in the land of Indonesia itself
rendang making from 0 took a lot of time and a lot of energy, but the cost of a Rice+beef rendang+ an iced tea is usually less than $2 which is really-really cheap for the number 1 beef in the world
another dish that is a bit more expensive is Ginger fried chicken or Ayam Kalasan, with a full package of chicken+rice+ an ice tea the cost can reach around $3 - 3.50
the cheapest food you can get is egg balado commonly in Padang Restaurant, it costs less than $1 even with drink
🙏Sukses Bang Justin🎉. Let's eat nasi goreng❤

I like Indonesian food, you are not called Indonesian if you eat without rice, even I am surprised that Indonesians eat Indomie noodles with rice, I love Indonesia ❤🎉
