- Nathan Seidle’s wife gave him this already locked safe as a gift with no combination. Weird present, but he loves a good challenge. So he built a safecracking robot.

Homemade Robot Cracks a Safe in Just 15 Minutes | WIRED Наука
This safe ain't *safe.*
It's not supposed to be. It is fire resistant, but the shell is susceptible to cracking with a sledge hammer. I guess they only bothered with the lock because it looks cool. Unfortunately the previous owner forgot the combination. Fortunately, he didn't leave anything in it when he sold it.
David Downer.
its a fire resistant safe, not fireproof, so really its a time delay to save your belongings from or to keep them out of direct reach (ie: kids), not actually meant as a theft safe/vault.
thats why the cams are so loose and that 28-29-30-31-32 all work in either position. sloppy like a Dudley Locker padlock. ( 0-59 on the dial, but really only 45 actual combinations. ) cheap construction/parts/machining for a low end market product or storage grade product.
Id REALLY like to see his device try to crack a S&G ( sargent and greenleaf 67XX series ) you over shoot a single digit by half a mark on the dial and you need to restart.
source: I am an ex specialized locksmith.
no challenge. work on a real combo lock :)
Watch a Homemade robot crack open a cold One with the boys in 15 minutes
Samuele Petullà Did you just assume my gender?
Oh shut up.
+Lava Proof Did you just assumed that "boy" refer to a specific gender?
Hugh Mungus wot
The technique of using a combination range, as a hit for one number, for reducing the number of possible combinations was made famous by Feynman in the book "Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman". Cool robot.
That's a pretty trivial technique..
@@riekmenrudolf it's not the least bit trivial, it reduces the possible combinations significantly
..though feynman also had his sources, as he pointed out in SurelyYou're.
Use a real safe, that joke of a “safe” can be opened by dropping it
How am I supposed to watch a robot crack up a safe in 15 min when the video is 4 min?
Armando Aranda pretty sure the robot doesnt crack up the safe in exactly 15 minutes either
Armando Aranda What? I didnt say the video lasted for 15 minutes. Please excuse my english, it's not my mother tongue
5 responses isn't fucking with someone, that's weaksauce. Step your damn game up Armando!
steve?
time travel, perhaps?
Meanwhile Jeff Sitar can crack a bank vault in 5 minutes.
KryptonicAxe he died dude! The robot lives on
Vega oh that’s sad to hear
Saw robot in the title and clicked immediately
Fabio Gutierrez Same!
THE ROBOT HAS JAMMED
[PRESS E TO RESTART THE ROBOT]
[ 173 SECONDS LEFT ]
The Supreme Meme *The robot has jammed*
Guys, the thermal robot, go get it!
The Supreme Meme Payday, anyone?
"...there was nothing inside..hehe....." *cryes inwardly*
Wow can't wait for payday 3
Lt Biscuits yeah same the graphic improved though.
too much lag
Yeah no more safe cracking simulator LOL!
Guys, the cracking robot. Go get it.
The cracking robot stopped working, go fix it! - Bain
This is awesome. I actually came across this video because I am working on pretty much the same project to get into my safe that I forgot the combination to. It just happens to be the exact same model as the one you demonstrated with. I'm glad to see it's a concept capable of working. Cheers!
And I'm sure all the existing owners of such safes will be so grateful that you're helping improve the security of (future) safes! ;)
Hahahahahaa "robots are really good at knowing where they are"
Well, they are. What's so funny?
They aren't have you ever heard of noise
They aren't have you ever heard of noise
You have to filter all information and fixing errors in mapping is a whole subfield of robotics
then after you do that robots are really good at knowing where they are, congrats you answered your own question.
To anyone intrigued I really recommend Nathan's full Defcon talk on this.
15 minutes. This robot got nothing on Jeff Sitar
RIP Jeff Sitar you will never be replaced by a silly robot! However we do applaud your efforts Nathan and appreciate Sparkfun's offerings to the community!
I love that 7 seg display!
Al capones vaults reference at the end
Imagine you got robbed and someone brought a robot like this to open your safe
this *cracks* me up everytime!
I wanna see a homemade robot crack open a cold one with the boys
Really INjoyed this. Thanks for making a xlint video on such a InTeReStiNg subject. Cheers!
I sense 'The Imitation Game' all over again
Safe Dailers have been around for a long time .. This is in no way new tech.. His robot would not work on a Sergant and Greenleaf Dial, at least not without some code changes.. The Notched Disk is only in the Sentry safe .. and most of them you don't need the trouble of building a robot to open it.. As a matter of fact it is pretty much a far stretch of the word to call any Sentry product a "safe"
“Guys the thermal drill, go get it”
were can I get this bot?
Then you bring the LockPickingLawyer (RUclips channel) and he'll open it in 30s. If he takes more than 1min you know it's world class safety.
He's got a great wife giving him the gift of a locked safe. She knows and truly loves him.
Guys I have an idea to invent a robot to do this too. All I gotta do is put the safe on the safe cracking platform, and turn on the robot to execute its command. This in turn will lower a hydraulic press precisely on the door of the safe, just as the robot intended. It seems flawless, I know, any suggestions for improvements are welcome, like a robot that turns on the press would be great and all, but maybe one that turns it off?
How does this machine handle Group 1 dial locks??
those damn notches...
Great video!
I'm cracking up here.
Adam Frisk
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH
Did you say sparkfun was a _small_ electronics manufacturer?
very interesting video, would've been even more interesting if there was some treasure in the safe though.
That is a sentry.. that's basically a garbage can.
Not enough Payday game references.
I need to take a shower
Still better than drills in Payday 2.
Feynman would be proud
Nice work! Although the flickering display is unprofessional.
Wow! I'd now like to see if it would be faster then safecracker Jeff Sitar! I'd be all eyes on that challenge!! Jeff Sitar vs. Robot! 😆
Smart guy
I imagine you could also add some listening devices and some rotation pressure sensors and add to the possibilities of the robot identifying numbers sooner, no?
Now in Payday 3 we wont have to deal with drills!
Jeff sitar..
3:35 the issue is, it's a product you buy. It's not software. It doesn't get periodic updates you can just download. Flaws found out are flaws that every current owner of the product has to actively be worried about. They can't just update their safe. They would need to buy another safe hoping the new one doesn't have the same flaws. And if their current safe has not stopped functioning, they wouldn't buy the new one.
Kind of sad that he doesn't seem to realize that the Sentry is essentially a "toy" safe.
Hey I have I similar problem only my safe code is locked inside and now I am thinking of trying to build this to get it open again
Behind every great man there a even greater wife...
How can i get the robat
He wrote all that code and built the bot for just that type of safe model and only other models alike having that vulnerability in the spinning lock mechanism.
"A million possible combinations" no it doesn't.
😂😂lol just get your lock picking to 100😂😂
Armed security robots are the wave of the future. Robots in general will be one of the next big things.
This is cool
My fingers were dirty so I was forced to watch this but turns out it was pretty entertaining and thaught me a little :D
Samy kamar made something similar, but for a master lock
I feel safer already
I would rather see a robot capable of trying a million combinations in a few minutes.
robot with an Angle Grinder?
Now let break into For Knox
Where are the comments ?
What was In The SAFE when you opened it dude??
Fire safes aren't even considered secure by the manufacturers.
Awesome!~
I love Sparkfun
"There was nothing inside"
Bullshit, his wife left some viagara with a note saying "meet me upstairs"
I can either wait 15 minutes for a robot which took 3 weeks to make to crack a safe, or I could call in Nick Valentine,
How about rapidly trying all the possible codes? I mean - it's a robot - and he could try thousands of combinations per minute....
if i was the one who gave you the safe i would have left a note inside saying thanks for opening it mind giving it back i forgot the code
inconsiderate notches
3 digit allowance
sounds like a more expensive master lock
but most people have electronic safes now
see, now your wife made you become a crook ;o
And so the robot apocalypse begins. When the robots start stealing our money, then what chance do we stand?
I thought it said homemade robot cracks a joke.
That's all great, but what *was* in the safe your wife gave you?!
Richard Feyman already did this without a robot
+Augusto Batista umm... the trick is doing it *with* a robot
Bruh, they should add this robot into payday 2
SpiderWhiskers ilr
This guy looks and sounds eerily similar to Phil Plait.
Battlefield Hardline, second last mission :D
jeff sitar would do it in like 5 mins
He wouldn’t of wasted his time on that lil safe
So someone built the drill from Payday?
Or you can call up Jeff Sitar and have it cracked in 4 minutes.
create a business using this and advertise it as "We'll crack your locked safe in 30 minutes or less" This would be a sick lock "picking" business
But could it crack open a cold one with the boys?
"I want to point out this issue. So you can make this more secure."
Richard Feynman tried doing that when he was working with the US government build the first nuclear bomb as he found that he was able to open several of the safes on the facility. The response was "Do not let Dr. Feynman near any locked safes. If he does come near them, change the combination immediately." Incidentally the Colonel who wrote this memo had his safe opened because he never change the combination from the default one.
So what was inside the safe his wive gave him?
A smaller safe
He says that there was nothing at the end of video
a video of her getting bang by a bunch of horses
4:05 nothing inside
What's at the end of the video you came here to comment on?
3:23 Your welcome :)
Imagine if he opened the safe from his wife and inside was a not asking for a divorce
Someone done it in a minute with strong magnet
That exploit, along with the 'dropping it' and 'smacking it' attacks are for the lousy quality electronic safe locks that use a switched solenoid to move an obstruction out of the way, allowing the safe to be opened. Neither of these methods will accomplish anything useful on even a low quality mechanical dial lock.
I want this
Jeff Sitar could have done that safe in 5 minutes.
*Payday 2 Music Drop Initiates*
Any ways the borrow the robot for a day?
Wouldn't be easier to teach a robot to use a torch?
I think that's great... but these types of safes are defeated physically they are not very strong. Mostly they are just a way to show burglars were your valuables are.
It would be funny if it was just written on the bottom
Proves nothing is safe not even your safe
Jeff Sitar can do it in five minutes-
