  • I finally got around to using an Ultra Light rod. I had to order a 7 foot version because the only ones in town were 6' and shorter.

    Yeah I’m stuck on the 4’6 light rod. Catching 16 to 24 inch speck trout. Good fun fight on size 20 reel

    thanks for sharing. Among my favorite rods are lower priced ones and enjoy so much when they perform as hoped for. Enjoy the Shakespeare micro series show. I have a friend who has fished those rods for many years. He has broken one, but keeps going back to them. Good do discover your channel.

    great pick, Ive had 2 of these rods. A small 5 foot one that the tip got broken (my fault) so i chopped it off and glued on a new eye. worked great untill it jumped out of my truck on the freeway. bought a 7 foot this time and still, these rods are worth more money than they cost.
    love the cork, they balance well and most important land fish.

    I’ve caught a 5.5lb LMB on the 7ft light rod same brand you got on 6lb mono and wacky rigged creme night crawler worm and was the greatest fight now if I was fishing for LMB strictly on this rod then I’d prey that there was no snags they can get me into but for small to medium the rods great.

    I just got into fishing and I have the same rod, I think it’s a medium action but I have 65 pound test line somehow you think I could catch some heavy fish, let’s say 6 pounds or less

    Would it be a good idea to go for 40 inch longnose gar with this rod?I would use a professional reel with it.

    • @CheapAngler
      @CheapAngler  5 лет назад +1

      If you're doing it specifically as a challenge, I'd go with a shorter version, like 6' or 6'6", and maybe a light instead of ultra light. If that's not the case, then no i wouldn't go after a gar with it.

    I had the exact rod and broke the top 5 in off so now it's a six-foot-six I gave it to my cousin who loves to bass fish with it but I love the 7-foot series just like you got for crappie fishing a damn limber good rod

    • @CheapAngler

      I stepped on mine! So it's now a 7 footer instead of a 7'6". I think it actually works better now

      @CheapAngler  5 лет назад

      @@mountainstomarshes8966 Maybe the rods where you're from are labeled differently, most of the ones i own are labeled on the rod itself as ""Medium Action" or "Action: Medium." These say "Ultra Light Action"

    • @mountainstomarshes8966
      @mountainstomarshes8966 5 лет назад

      @@CheapAngler strange! Action has to do with where the blank bends. Fast action is mostly the tip, slow action is all the way into the butt of the rod. You can think of it as stiff vs noodle. That's bizarre that they'd label the rods essentially backwards!

    • @CheapAngler
      @CheapAngler  5 лет назад

      here's a "power chart" that also refers to the power as action... www.fix.com/assets/content/15665/rod-power-001.jpg Looking at most charts, the more flex means slower speed, so I'm guessing the ultra light needs to be ultra slow.

    It's a great rod... But it's not going to last very long the way you're holding the rod straight up and down with all that weight of the 1 lb bass etc...on the tip of the rod..it's going to snap ❗❗❗
