From what I've come to understand is Jesus loves the broken. People who have been through a living hell but still believe in Jesus and his promise, and I'm one of them. I've done many things I'm not proud of and wish I could take back, but if things were that simple, life would have no meaning. Everyone would be redoing everything until they got it right. I know Jesus loves everyone, but you know what I mean. It's easy to keep your faith when you're wrapped in a sugarcoat, and your faiths never truly been tested. I know mine was after 20 years of active addiction, but I never lost it. I never felt Jesus turning from me, but I did feel me turning from Jesus. Thankfully, I turned back to him before turning completely away. Am I happy and where I want to be today.. not really, but I've been clean for 7 years and held a great job for 6. It will all come in time and on God's time, not mine
