Exactly! This is why I encourage all GGR Sailors who are preparing to try both systems in firm weather!!!!! Then you can see what is the best setup, most powerfull setup, for the boat!!!
I agree with you. Sail balance must be far more crucial for say a hydro vane and the pendulum type provide quicker response as well. I can imagine the ones with a small rudder being overpowered. I had an aries lift up number 5. Great bit of gear. I had another one called a servopilot(I think) on my first boat and that worked well. I think it was a Swedish vane.
@@mrpatlaw123 Rear edge is a few inches from the transom. The boat is VERY responsive to the rudder which is large. The boat does not broach under normal sailing unless it has a quartering sea & one does not bother to correct it ( The Aeries does not correct it) If one anticipates in time then the boat tracks dead straight,

Great video Pat. Thank you.
Great info. Doubt I’ll ever need it. Very interesting though.
Well done video! I am considering a used Monitor. It's the same principle, isn't it? I am overwhelmed with information.
It's the same but made of stainless instead of aluminium.
Did you get the Monitor, if so how is it working?
Got to love the ARIES.

My question is about your shifter position. How do you like where you have it?
Thanks
My aeries does not work with the wind aft of the mast.
Mine does not a bother. My rudder is well aft. Where is your rudder
