I have always used simple felt tar paper for applications like yours. It hides when the openings expand. You can also cut the edges at a 45 degree and butt them together. The strips will probable work fine too.

Its like the shingle siding. Its a creative process that gets good results with the process. You might consider making the built-ins for the corner into storage under a flip lid. I have tiny houses and creative use of space is the norm.

It's a little bit canted, I remember when building it I figured the weight of the framing would straighten it out but it never did, not sure why, hasn't moved in either direction.

Thats what I used for those strips, but I didn't have much of it left so I cut it like that to stretch it further.
