I'm a newbie grad, but I would recommend that everyone not only brings a physical portfolio with you to an interview, but also a process book for your BEST project. You'll walk through your portfolio, going over the intentions of each project etc. Then after that, you ask if they would like to see the full process of one of your projects. I think this catches some interviewers off guard and shows that you're really prepared. Process is everything when it comes to design. GOOD LUCK DESIGNERS, WE GOT THIS!! :)

Hey Edmundo sorry to hear about your situation hopefully you have landed in a job by now. I will say the design industry is both a saturated and niche market rolled into one and unfortunately the experience side does come into play for an employer as they do need you to be able on the job it's unfair, but it is there requirement. I will be honest I employ other freelancers to do artwork roles for me but only those I trust and know from my perspective I do not want to hold the hands of a graduate or junior designer I need then to own the project like its there's I don't like micromanagement or its practice, and I wish it on no one to be micromanaged by another, I expect juniors to run it was expected for me to be able to own every job I do and I did and that philosophy is something I adhere too, crap I know but in my own experience when I was a student was the majority of students just messed around don't think about what they are doing and find those little creative gems are rare, simple things like communication they don't do this and if they do they don't do follow ups just being pro active is not something they do, I am not saying you are this type of person its just going on experience and one of the millions of factors they I don't or others don't employee grads or juniors unelss they got expeience. That being said try every avenue of getting a job as someone told me everyone needs a designer, look at companies of all sorts and not just agencies, consider relocation as an option. I once considered relocating to London but decided not to base on I felt it wasn't for me,. So I decided to work in around my home city, and I used to commute every day to a job in Cambridge. Also be more proactive if something is not working find out why and see if there's a solution around it. Don't give up being a designer I hope this helps you further, but more importantly, I hope you have settled into a design role by now

How can I get experience if I can't get experience?....this *seriously* needs to be addressed its so not funny everyone needs and deserves a chance, even if something like a government initiated scheme needs to be put in place to have Agencies give you a mandatory 1-3 months or even a few weeks. The Design College I went to didn't even have a work experience program it was a joke. Even Designers down the road who never get a break deserve help.

I've been discouraged for years after graduating. I've had half of my time in school doing projects that had me question how valid they would be in the real world with shoddy results and utilizing very simple techniques when I wanted to learn how to compose high quality photomorphs of ads you'd see in magazines and whatnot. Juggling time to learn not only that but other things, trying a side hustle with a PT job unrelated to the field with a lack of remote jr positions is really bogging me down.
