Sad day today when the world learnt of his passing. What an artist. What passion. What a life. What a legacy. So thankful he got to share his many talents with the world.
i tour managed Kelly Joe with Corrine West in Ireland a few years back . He was wonderful company and every gig was an absolute delight. I miss him........
You can't beat the KJP. What a sense of timing. He has the absolute lushest finger style and slide work and a voice like liquid opium. If I could only listen to one person the rest of my life, it would be him........
@@maryannfryar8289 oh wow! I had no idea, I thought he became tired of it all and decided to get away. Thank you for the information. That was depressing news.
@@thobraa I was scouring for info and found a message from him from 2016 saying his neuropathy had all but disappeared and that he was taking time out from studio and touring to attend to some neglected personal/family things. Sounded like he was absolutely fine. It’s amazing news about his hands. I spent a day with him in Chinon France in 2012. Super humble brother!
@@NoLefTurnUnStoned. wow! Thanks man! It was such terrible news to hear he had to retire because of his hands. But if this is true I still have hope to get to hear him play. I've missed two chances and regret it to this day. Thank you for the search, and lets just hope we get to hear some more beautiful guitar again from Kelly Joe Phelps, definitely one of the finest guitarplayers of our age.
Serguei, it's in open G. You can tell when he runs up the tonic note on the first string, and look at the C7 shape he makes on the 4 change. Open G on the third fret puts it up to Bb for the vocals. This ought to keep you busy for a while, I know it does me....... Later Man, Fletch

A sad day indeed. Rest in peace, KJP

Well put sir!
Been trying to get close to what he does for 20 years and I’m still as far away as I was day 1
I saw him play in Stamford, CT. I was mesmerized. Incredible guitarist and song-meister. What an incredible loss. LIfe is not fair.
kelly probably has one of the most authentic blues voices of his generation which has improved with age, thanks for posting
probably?
I saw him perform one evening in a small bar in harlesden London around 98 or 99 so glad I got the chance to.r.i.p
RIP Kelly Joe Phelps. You are and always will be a great inspiration.
the voice of a whiskey swigging angel and the guitar style of a man who was met at the crossroads
Poetic, almost written a song there! Love these comments best yet
For the Love of God, we will never see another like KJP in our lifetime. Show me something more powerful, i want to see it.
Try Johnny Dickinson
Totally in the moment, is Kelly. Best way to play :)
One of the greatest!
Good vibes man.You are an amazing bluesplayer and singer.
Skip James would be proud. KJP is the man...just wish he'd swing through Colorado sometime soon.

I wish KJP would come back to music :(
I wonder what he is doing. I miss him, but hope life is treating him well.
@@thobraa I think he was diagnosed with neuropathy in his hands. Pretty devastating on a guitar player :-(

Just a magician
7:02-7:07 c'mon man this dude is the truth
he is my minister. He tells me how to behave and establishes the entry credentials to be in his club
for god sake come back kelly
@jaffa 360 he stopped performing on stage almost 10 years ago. Tired of touring for sure ..
Love to see him come out and rip trump. I feel it in his veins...Responsibility of all artists.
the real thing!
Damn
Sang Boy!!!!!!
jfc that was good.
What the tuning can it be? Looks like open G# with the capo on the 3rd. Is that right? Never heard KJP used it.

The string intervals are open G... So, you're right! With capo it would be A#, or B flat...Call it A# since he's going in that ascending direction.
KJP, Like John Hammond Jr are American royalty.
