as you and i have talked about before, you know this is my favorite live lou reed album...i play this thing constantly...even if you just listen to fernando alone, his sparse bass is absolutely breathtaking...and i happen to appreciate antony's vocals, especially on candy says...and it doesn't hurt that lou performs my favorite song of his, 'ecstasy'.....this one is for those who appreciate lou musically...not as a performer, but as a songwriter, an artist, and most of all, mortal....great review my friend...peace always, rocky

Great comment, Rocky! Right on. Yes, this is an amazingly expressive and (dare I say it) beautiful album. You are so right: you hear Lou the man here, the human. Definitely one of his most introspective performances, but not at the expense of the energy and passion that we Lou fans expect from him. Thanks. Jeff

Whilst I'm not an avid Lou fan, I haven't heard this one before. Just listened to a couple of songs on Spotify and it sounds very good. I actually own and played Lulu today and I love it.

It is very odd that I am a Lou fan in some ways, Philip, because I am a guy who likes watching Waltons and Andy Griffith Show episodes (haha!) and who has almost always lived in those "small towns" that Lou sings about "getting out of". I do love visiting large cities, though, and could easily live in the heart of a large city and have no car, if my wife could do so (which she can't). Anyway, despite Lou and me being very different people in some ways, I absolutely love his music and (most of) his lyrics and just his overall approach to his art and his reverence for rock and soul as being every bit as much "art" as any other genre. I am happy to meet other Lulu appreciators, Philip! I don't love EVERY aspect of it, but I really love most of it too. I am really looking forward to making a video about it. Thanks as always! Jeff

nice to see your editing skills - as with most of lou's work will need to check this out - thanks for a glimpse of what to expect - you make a very valid point that i agree with reed is a style and taste that doesn't agree with all - it helped my appreciation to do a review of new york is 89 release

Thanks John! It took me forever to find a means to include images on my videos that my severely challenged techno-buffoonery could negotiate, haha! I lose patience almost immediately with 99% of all the apps and software out there. I also need to learn to not adjust the brightness and colors and such.....I look like a lobster in this video, hahaha! Anyway, thanks for the comment. Yes, Lou is not for everyone, but I love the guy.......well, I am not always a huge fan of his topic matter for some of his songs, but.....I love the guy nonetheless. Cheers! Jeff

Great review! I'm listening to Lou's songs "Legendary Hearts"; Candy Says and "Rock Minuet" a lot recently. He's kind of an urban Dylan.

Great songs!! My love of Lou's music increases each time I hear it. An urban Dylan indeed. He would have appreciated your saying that! Cheers. Thanks, Patrick

Blue Mask is the last Lou Reed album i really like...later on he took himself way too seriously, his lyrics seemed so forced, i wasn't interested

I can understand what you mean here, Ricky. That thought has come to my head many times also, that Lou's later projects were perhaps a bit over the top at times. I mentioned something about that when reviewing The Raven, for example. I wish I could talk to him and ask him about stuff like this.....although the questions would have to be very carefully worded of course. I wonder if his later "artsy-ness" was something always right there in him and he just decided, "well, my old fans don't care any more, so I am just going to let it all out"....OR did he dive into the NYC artworld deep-end and allow it to influence him to take on these projects? Probably a bit of both. I think he's always been a writer deep down.....whether one thinks he was a good writer or not, that's up to each person.....but I never saw as much "pretension" in him as some people do. I think he was very genuine for the most part, which is why so many fans love the guy. That is my $0.02, anyway. Thanks for your comment, Ricky. Jeff
