  • I take one of the cleanest TTs out there, and make it even cleaner!
    This video focuses on the work me and Paul undertook on Super TTed to get the underside as clean as the body work. We also did a bit of work in the engine bay, tidying up parts, removing others, and changing the rocker cover (for the 5th time!!!)

    One of the great things about owning cars in Australia is that we just do not get any corrosion underneath the car - none. After 19 years on the road and 150000 miles, every metal part underneath my TT is squeaky clean (and I removed the plastic undertrays years ago for ease of maintenance). But you always have to pay the piper somewhere..... Our interior plastics get hammered by UV and the hot baking sun. Some European car interiors just become a sticky, perished mess. My old Alfa 147, for example.

  • @TheBaldMiddleAgedMetalHead

    That all looks very beautiful but the Haldex unit is cast aluminium, the bracket is cast aluminium, and the trailing arm is cast iron. Just change bushes when they fail, the subframe is super thick pressed steel. Only really the two pressed steel control arms need replacing when they're shot.
    Front sub frames different story! 😮 But the lower arms again are cast iron.

      I’ve seen rear subframes rot away, so worth keeping them protected too. I also don’t really see your point- when you see the level of detail in the rest of this show car, why wouldn’t he want the underside to be clean?

    There's nothing wrong with using a paint brush to get into difficult places.
    The good thing about thick paint is you can sand and spray top coat it clear.

  • @dantheman1337

    SiliCONE coolant tubes are porous...they leak coolant and oil. Burning out the bushes is unnecessary, heat them a bit yes, the rubber melts, then they hammer out. Less damage to the subframe metal that way (you are changing the heat teatment of it). The PCV system you are 'deleting' with a catch could cause big issues if you get it wrong. It is carefully designed to regulate the engine pressure properly. When you torque bushes for the suspension, the weight of the car must be on the bushes. I don't know how you've done this since the car is only on axle stands.

    • @BWSTT
      @BWSTT  Год назад

      Thanks for showing you know a thing or 2, and thanks for assuming I don’t. For a start, you inly need the weight of the car on rubber bushes, to stop preload in the bush. Polybushes don’t require this, as the crushtube is what youre torqueing against, and the bush moves independently of this- by design. If i do install standard bushes, i have 4 1 foot high plinths i lower the car onto to be able to torque up. Now given that we have proven my knowledge on one point, do i really need to do the same for the rest?
