Hi NL, thanks so much for this series. My 10 year old loves card games, and I've been making him watch you play Slay The Spire when I need to punish him.
Basic strikes with no strenght are most likely meaningless in a strenght deck against champ. I'll give Eggdaddy the benefit of believing he remembered about having Art of War.
He does have a point. It hits 3 times so is affected by strength 3 times (4 if upgraded) and costs 1 energy instead of 2 so is a more versatile card to play for almost exactly the same damage. The chief flaw is that it may miss the intended target when there are many.
Fabian L I think streamers have a higher chance for misplays because they are explaining/talking which distracts them. Only explanation I can think of for the incredible amount of misplays
Hey egg, you really like disarm but almost never take metalicise... but’s what’s the difference they both reduce incoming damage every turn except metalicise doesn’t go away when the enemy dies, but disarm works better against enemies that hit you multiple times.
disarm additionally reduces damage from multihits, though. On single attacks it's -2, on doubles it's -4, and metallicize is plain 3. Also, exhaust synergy.
"Meme runs" also known as "Good runs" or in Isaac terminology we can call them "Zany runs". Here's the meat and potatoes, NL: When we say we like Zane, it's because Zane to you is trying new things out and learning how they work. It's just the only way you can internalize what we mean by telling you to get good at the game.
On one of your turns you had 1 energy, a basic strike, and a pommel strike. You've been in positions like this before, and you ALWAYS choose to play the pommel to get an extra 2 damage (or however much it is). This is not always the best strategy. Unless you have a 0 cost card you're desperately fishing for, or are intentionally trying to cycle your deck to get back to a card you've already played, it might be the better play to use the strike. For example: In the above case with the strike and pommel, you played the pommel and caused a card draw. That draw could've been a card you wanted in your hand on the next turn, but instead you just drew it and then immediately had to discard it, having no energy to play it with. Also, even when you've got a 0 cost card in your draw pile that you could use, it's still not always the best play to draw. If you've got 20 cards in your draw pile, your odds of drawing the one card (or even if you've got 2 of them) are pretty awful, and you might only want to draw if you're trying to cycle your deck. There's been a few times where you were looking for a specific 1+ cost card, then spent your last energy playing a card with draw. So far it hasn't really come back to bite you in the ass, but sooner or later it'll get you. Just be mindful of card draw, especially where your remaining energy is concerned. It's a powerful mechanic, but not always appropriate and can potentially be a run-ender when you're not careful with it.
Alternatively, with 25 STR and 2 sword boomerangs, you deal 168 damage. And this costs 1 energy x 2 rather than 2 energy. So they are similar potency. But you don't have to commit both energy at the same time. Depending on relic luck, USUALLY you end up having "I don't have enough energy to play all my cards" rather than "I've played all my cards and have left over energy"
Stabby knife hand is OUTBLOCK, not race. Look at what he does, if he ever touches you then he adds wounds to your deck. Why would you think "oh, just keep getting hit, that's the answer"?
Never let the Book of Stabbing get free Wounds in your deck. If you somehow get (Any) Status in your deck... Block what you can, then 'kill the damn book,' asap. Those multi-hits get crazy after awhile, so watch out folks. Or your deck will literally hemorrhage from every single Wound card you draw.
1 card that causes Vulnerable, stack those dropkicks! Got 24 strength, better headbutt into this Flex so I have 2 more strength instead of an attack that just kills the enemy. Cleave over Heavy Blade? cya bros
29:11 I thought seizures weren't contagious, especially through videos, but since I'm typing this with my left hand and the right hand side of my body is limp I think I was wrong
NORTHERNLION, I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. It was very entertaining and kept me engaged for all 48 minutes. I scrolled through the comments and saw the majority of them were bashing you for misplays, but from someone who does not play the game, I had fun watching this regardless. Thank you for your time.
11:40 you play spot weakness for the 3 strength->pommel->strike, is giving you 6 damage just from spot weakness(dropkick damage) and that strength is permanent so you just finish him off next round but I guess our egg is still not at that level after *70* episodes.
And also considering Sword boomerang being better than Cleave in a strength deck for AoE (and incidently better than heavy blade for single target too).
MegaAnno2 One cleave is very useful to have especially if you go elite hunting on the 2nd floor. It always has value but NL hypes it up a little too much.
He doesn't do exhaust. Ever. Well, unless his relics force him into it but only with Silent. Which of course is hillarious because exhaust is about 60% of the Ironclad's core play mechanic by design, based off Corruption / Dark Embrace and Evolve / Wound cards.
Inflame is great in strength builds. It's unconditional strength gain, can be duplicated by Dual Wield, and triggers things like Mummified Hand and Bird Faced Urn because it's a Power. I just had a strength run where I had 3 inflames and it was nuts with Clash and Dual Wield and Double Tap in the deck. Also, quit bein a lil B with a Lil P; Nemesis isn't that bad if you have a decent deck. He's also, in my experience, the least common elite on the last floor.
When you said that you think inflame is bad, but Spot weakness was good, you were forgetting thin deck principles. Inflame is good because it is a power and all powers are good by self thinning out of your deck as the battle continues. That's why it's good, you get the benefit, then get a thinner, more streamlined deck. Spot weakness is also good, it is a preference thing. But inflames are awesome in my book.
demon form, two spot weaknesses flex and limit break, and he takes cleave over heavy blade conciously. What an egg. Edit: That first turn vs the champ was painfull to watch, the egg misses using his last energy a lot, but that was just bizzare.
Just won a run by sacrificing the starting relic with this guy... and the replacement was the stupid fucking toy house. Just a series of fortunate events that followed. I've learned now that this game hangs on your card drops in like the first 4 fights and getting a lucky synergy with an elite drop early on.
NL has to be slowly conditioning us for his BDSM torture dungeon with all these misplays. We learn to love the pain. Seriously though these videos are the highlight of my day thank you thin decc daddy
What in the HELL was the reasoning behind NOT playing Headbutt and Strike at 29:10? I mean for the love of.. Let's just ignore the 20+ damage we could have done to him with NO repercussions whatsoever.
Let me tell you exactly where he messed up. When he said "they don't intrigue me that much, they don't excite me that much" he should have followed with "They don't IMPRESS M ME MUCH"
DAILY NEWS: Man nearly kills himself impatiently attacking spikes for third day in a row. "Wow, I should have thought about that one a little bit more closely", he says while learning nothing.
The term card-balance is a foreign term to him. He also does not understand advanced deck-archetypes. Because he does not experiment. Egg in an eggshell. Let's see, how far his luck will carry him.
Ring of the snake and bag of preparation are the same thing and yet the E G G thinks that the snake one is better (like when he doesn't swap it out for a boss relic at the start of a run)
you should kill the guy in the back first when your in act 2 fighting that one elite that has tree guys, the guy in the front(which you always focus) can't actually give you the debuff where you can't play attacks
This egg and his endless flexes. The gain 2 strength lose 2 strength flex. He will buy a Flex for 49 gold but then later call Inflame overrated?! The gain 2 strength card that gets out of the deck after you play it? Like.... wow. Though I will say I am glad he picked up bag of preparation. He may not have realized it but lantern and tea set were giving him monstrous amounts of first turn energy and the extra cards were likely to be useful. I was gonna be sad if he passed it up.
Rage would have been the ideal card since you hamstrung yourself by obliterating your defend game, considering how much energy/card draw you ended up with
Hi NL, thanks so much for this series. My 10 year old loves card games, and I've been making him watch you play Slay The Spire when I need to punish him.
Pattern at first i thought this was a compliment
nice
Pattern wtf lol
Oh shyt that roast is on the internet forever
Loved when he ended the first turn against the champ with four energy and two attacks.
Basic strikes with no strenght are most likely meaningless in a strenght deck against champ. I'll give Eggdaddy the benefit of believing he remembered about having Art of War.
He didn't get Art of War until act 3!
he didn't have art of war my dude
The boss had vulnerable.
DEMON FORM AND STRENGTH GAIN ONLY TO SKIP HEAVY BLADE FOR A CLEAVE BECAUSE HE NEEDS IT
I'd do the same. Heavy blade is a terrible card. Sword boomerang is better in all circumstances you have 2 or more strength.
Roger Excell are you dumb
He does have a point. It hits 3 times so is affected by strength 3 times (4 if upgraded) and costs 1 energy instead of 2 so is a more versatile card to play for almost exactly the same damage. The chief flaw is that it may miss the intended target when there are many.
Pro tip NL, when fighting the Sentries, kill one of the 2 that are in sync. So when the first one dies you never have to block more than 8 at once.
If there was a situation in which he had to choose between kate and CLEAVE this egg boi would pick cleave 100 prcnt
Someone tell this man he's allowed to take some defensive cards. Passed up like 3 shrugs and 2 metalicize.
Defending is embarrassing.
Trigger warning, he wastes 4 energy at 29:11
Huecalpixqui Jean III thanks for saving my heart the pain
S L O W P L A Y
He says, he can afford slow play, so don't see the problem...
Just cause he can afford to slow play doesn't mean he should waste a perfectly good strike and headbutt
Holy shit, I knew it was coming and I still died a little inside.
he wastes too much on resting
40:00
sure, dont play the free upgraded defend
Fabian L I think streamers have a higher chance for misplays because they are explaining/talking which distracts them. Only explanation I can think of for the incredible amount of misplays
FatalVindicator I've watched others play on RUclips he does not deserve the excuse
he takes soo many baseless scapegoats, the last thing he needs is more scapegoats
He couldve used his potion to save 18 hp too
Hey egg, you really like disarm but almost never take metalicise... but’s what’s the difference they both reduce incoming damage every turn except metalicise doesn’t go away when the enemy dies, but disarm works better against enemies that hit you multiple times.

disarm additionally reduces damage from multihits, though. On single attacks it's -2, on doubles it's -4, and metallicize is plain 3. Also, exhaust synergy.
Reading the comments and I realize this is not a thin deck daddy run nor is it an episode 69.
"Meme runs" also known as "Good runs" or in Isaac terminology we can call them "Zany runs".

No. Zane it's weird and nonsastane.
YOU'RE weird and "nonsastane"
Nude Tayne?
Can't believe this man to clash over pummel strike in his freakin STRENGTH BUILD
Edit: S T O P T A K I N G C L E A V E
nerdtron8 pummle... strike?
never stop taking cleave... its good..
pommel pummel pommel pummel
and reaper if you count it.
Yeah he 100% should have taken Pummel
On one of your turns you had 1 energy, a basic strike, and a pommel strike. Goes for strength build
Doesn’t take heavy blade
He also skipped out on pummel which is an insane card as well.
And sword boomerang, which btw is always better than Heavy blade: HB is a pretty rubbish card unless you're runnin snecko's eye.
PirateCat 1080p60fps Because sword boomerang+ does 100+ dmg for 1 energy at 25 strength
Alternatively, with 25 STR and 2 sword boomerangs, you deal 168 damage. And this costs 1 energy x 2 rather than 2 energy. So they are similar potency. But you don't have to commit both energy at the same time. .... because he's Ironclad. Just take Evolve and laugh. Also Fiend Fire or Immolate and you can laugh even more maniacly.
Oof ow my being incredibly wrong
Knife is race. Every time he multistabs he stabs 1 extra time.
HE MAY MISPLAY BUT WATCH HIM SLAY
Erik He can't keep getting away with it.
Love watching Ryan impale himself on the thorns guys whenever he sees them
>constantly brags about being aggro
>upgrades once, tokes never
nah NL, you have low hp because of misplays, not because you play aggro.
Ed Stretton my iq went 100 points down
Strokes and seizures are different you absolute fuck
@Cheaty Hotbeef They are though...
yeah one is for reading the latest Isaac trends and the other for becoming the derelict Microsoft word assistant
CLEARLY
39:48 When he played Limit Break BEFORE Spot Weakness my rage could not be contained.
G A L A X Y B R A I N
"Feed 'em crap and keep 'em in the dark". That's a little too real.
Sky Ellis "____ are like mushrooms; feed em shit and keep em in the dark."
Could you stop always going for the closest one when fighting the three slaver elites?
I feel like you sacrifice so much hp for the sake of going fast
HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT!
22:03 DON'T YOU SCARE ME LIKE THAT
NL: still frequently doesn't use all his energy, NL: still uses bash after other attacks
NL: Oh, should have thought about that one.
-catchphrase for the whole dam series

MegaAnno2 One cleave is very useful to have especially if you go elite hunting on the 2nd floor. It always has value but NL hypes it up a little too much.
thanks for the company
I wonder if northerlion will ever learn the value of true grit? He undervalue it so much, he never even give it a try

Nice+1
NLs brain C A N N O T work the T H O R N Y B O I S
40:00 - has 0 energy defend, gets hit for 18 anyway

OOH! Another episode of "How to take way too much damage from thorny bois"!
Nl my dude strength increases your attack damage, which means attacks that strike multiple times like pummel strike are essential in strength builds
When you're a strength deck and pick clash over pummel, then cleave over heavy blade or sword boomerang.
The ideal deck is one card. And that card is flex.
Thanks for the plays.
demon form, two spot weaknesses flex and limit break, and he takes cleave over heavy blade conciously. What an egg.
Edit: That first turn vs the champ was painfull to watch, the egg misses using his last energy a lot, but that was just bizzare.
YOU WINKED AT MEEEEE? 00:06
Loves cleave, hates whirlwind........ ?
Let's nice
come one, come all, see this egg make a strength deck without a heavy blade in sight!
I really wanted him to lose after he used whirlwind on the spikey boi and exploder.
He will never learn.
Just won a run by sacrificing the starting relic with this guy... and the replacement was the stupid fucking toy house. Just a series of fortunate events that followed.
I've learned now that this game hangs on your card drops in like the first 4 fights and getting a lucky synergy with an elite drop early on.
n i c e
Rhapsody I hate that Egg never takes iron wave
Yo love your vids
The Egg could learn a thing or two from you
Hey, i dont get this meme
Rhapsody can you do a how to beat series with NL and just covertly teach him how to play?
NL has to be slowly conditioning us for his BDSM torture dungeon with all these misplays. We learn to love the pain.
Seriously though these videos are the highlight of my day thank you thin decc daddy
If you have Armaments+ you should try and start your turn with that, since it upgrades everything else in your hand before you use it. 👍
Dude, you had the option to buy TRIP for 98 gold which is better than Bag of Marbles everytime
ok you took cleave over pummel and cleave over sword boomerang, i can't take it anymore...
Ending your turn with 4 Energy is the new Ending your turn with 1 Energy Meta.
FINALLY AN IRONCLAD RUN
I wonder when he learns to kill the knight first, he's stuck in a rut of thinking it's the right play.
6:37 HANGING ON THE EDGE OF TOMORROW!
I T S T I M E T O S T O P blending yourself with cleave and whirlwind on thorn boys. Plox
Please, pleaaaaase, ALWAYS armaments first for situations like this... 39:40
But NEVER in situations like this... 44:48 Damn it :(
>We don't need a 2nd demon form as I start with 8 energy on bosses.
What in the HELL was the reasoning behind NOT playing Headbutt and Strike at 29:10? I mean for the love of.. Let's just ignore the 20+ damage we could have done to him with NO repercussions whatsoever.
You egg! You didn't... I haven't finished watching the video yet. Wait for me, I have to know where you messed up.
Let me tell you exactly where he messed up. When he said "they don't intrigue me that much, they don't excite me that much" he should have followed with "They don't IMPRESS M ME MUCH"

Thanks for the company.
At this point in time, I usually run NL videos and mute it, open new tab to watch other videos and once in awhile take a peek to see T H I C D E C K
You had enough energy for a second demon form
Ring of the snake and bag of preparation are the same thing and yet the E G G thinks that the snake one is better (like when he doesn't swap it out for a boss relic at the start of a run)
Must be a Speedrun,
*gets reaper and WW on astrolabe and doesn't lose his shit*
you should kill the guy in the back first when your in act 2 fighting that one elite that has tree guys, the guy in the front(which you always focus) can't actually give you the debuff where you can't play attacks
"yeyeyeyeyeyeyeyeye" is he turning into Hafu?
Potions my Dude!!!
The zane lord has forsaken us to be really bad at meta instead
This egg and his endless flexes. The gain 2 strength lose 2 strength flex. He will buy a Flex for 49 gold but then later call Inflame overrated?! 👏 health👏is👏a👏re-👏ssource. Stop resting so much you don't need to always be at above half HP.
40:00 the 0 cost defend...
34:32 took 2 'city' relics as usual: didnt remove curse and take Bloodletting.
21:14 But But But But if you just took pummel and had the same strength you would do like 120 damage with just 1 energy man T_T
I cry every time he attacks then use spot weakness
Oh sure take Art of War over purging a curse, on the Ironclad. Under what circumstances will you NOT be playing an attack.
The Cleave blindness has gone too far. NL is running a Strength deck, and he overlooks Heavy Blade for Cleave without even thinking. C'mon NL
Was this from a stream?
Dude. 66hp and you healing before 1st boss?
I love the egg, but he values HP WAY too much early on. I personaly never rest and only upgrade unless im on like 20 hp. Only the last hp matters.
TAKE PUMMEL IN STRENGTH DECKS
Nice run \o/
ROAST FOR STRIKE
I can't be the only one who hears spar weakness it's really frustrating
Egg for the love of all that is holy, value Heavy blade more please.
can somebody make a supercut of all of the times he's wasted energy?
1:57 YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYA
Rage would have been the ideal card since you hamstrung yourself by obliterating your defend game, considering how much energy/card draw you ended up with
Ending a turn with 4 usable energy is a new low
Try a zany meme deck: Get block cards.
I think I had a fucking stroke at 29 mins. Because I have no idea what that fucking shit was.
