Gotta appreciate their dedication, resilience and drive while preparing for competitive tests especially during the pandemic. Hope each one of them makes it in whichever field their aspiring for
An amazing roundtable after a really long time. Loved the way everyone answered. Many strong points coming from Laraib. What he said was so true if you look at it from a different perspective. Especially the one about standardized tests. IITs are nowhere in front of these top universities. The primary reason being the mode through which you get into it. JEE Adv being one of the toughest exams in the world doesn’t even lead you to a college which is in the top 100. Preparing for IIT only teaches you how to work for a long period of time whereas preparing for universities like Stanford actually focuses on your personality development, which is gonna help you in the future to tackle real-life problems. We really need to get over some stereotypical mindsets of people. Thanks a lot Shaurya for having this roundtable. Can’t wait for the next roundtable having some amazing people with diverse perspectives.
Yeah I totally agree with you! I'm simultaneously preparing for JEE and abroad colleges, when I started working on my abroad college application it really developed me a lot and helped me to know about myself better in just 6 months whereas I've been preparing 2yrs for JEE and literally learned nothing but gets depressed and embarrassed every time I get fewer marks! I hope the Indian Education system changes!
I’d like to thank you for having this session. This was much-needed! Undoubtedly, everyone did wonders and it would be unreasonable to pit the speakers against one another, however being an IIT-JEE 2022 aspirant myself, I could relate to what Laraib said. First of all, I’d like to mention how much dazzled his whole dedication towards this interview made me. (Gave me major MUN vibes, not kidding!) It’s true that the JEE preparation requires you to follow rote learning to crack it amongst the lakhs of students you’re competing against, and in the end, it depletes your mind and soul if you’re not probably the most fortunate one to crack them. In today’s era, I feel that we shouldn’t be judged “just” upon our scholastics, but keep a comprehensive methodology towards education. Suppose, a guy studies for 12-hours in day, and there’s another, who studies for 5-6 hours, and spends the rest of the day on his hobbies, assisting the penniless, and try to find ways to cure Cancer, lessen the world’s pollution, or basically accomplish something productive which will help him enduring the world in the foreseeable future, I surmise the latter one ought be valued more. Moreover, according to my research, I’ve observed the fact that most of these IITians land up with an extravagant package abroad, or even do Masters or MBA at Harvard, Yale, UCB, Princeton or any other college which can be termed as IVY or elite. So what’s the point of investing so much into rote learning when you’re going to end up in the US? Why not begin that readiness at first where your overall development would be mulled over? Another thing which I think we should keep in mind is, ‘English’. We Indians do not have English as our native language, and it becomes daunting for all of us to finish the applications before the deadline. I believe that everyone isn’t interested in doing English majors, or do not jargon with a characteristic like that of Mr. Shashi Tharoor, and regardless of whether we do, the primary objective of everything is to get into a good college, but this one subject keeps some people away from their dreams. For the non-native speakers, I believe that the English proficiency tests (IELTS, TOEFL, and so on) should be easier than what it is. We want someone who’s passionate about his own field, and not a fellow who has got a perfect vocabulary to flaunt. It’s high time for us to change people’s mindset, especially the ones of the older generations (because they’re the one who pressurise into pursuing a specific stream sometimes, and warn us of adverse consequences otherwise). It’s the Chatur from 3 idiots who make it to the IITs, and the Rancho, who makes it to the IVY league schools. I too believe in having a solitary goal like Laraib, and giving my best to it, because if we target upon catching one single rabbit, we can. But we can’t catch two of them if we don’t focus on one. We might not catch any! Wishing him and everyone luck for their competitive exams. I hope they succeed because their dedication and sense of optimism is something to learn from. Looking forward to more such conversations on your channel. Keep up the good work. Cheers!
