The ending of a 37 year marriage deserves a song that sums up the loss of all my hopes and dreams of a family that I loved with all my heart. The sacrifice of my family unit so I could love myself is my biggest regret. It hurt me deeply but was the most necessary thing to save myself from a life of further despair, emptiness, and being unloved. She put all of my jumbled emotions in place with this song. Let it be known that I tried. For almost 40 years, I tried. This song moves me to tears and I play it daily. It’s helping me heal because it speaks my life from beginning to end. God bless Adele for giving me (and others) this song. She’s speaking my truth.
Edited to add that sense I posted my comment, my life has had a complete turnaround and I'm now in a good place mentally and emotionally and my children tell me that I actually saved my family. We were in a bad place and sometimes a thing has to fall apart to be rebuilt correctly. My path is clear. My heart is healed. Many thanks for the beautiful and encouraging comments. And many thanks to Adele for being courageous enough to speak her truth.

This album came out just as I started my healing journey with trauma abuse and mental health. And this song is by far the best song on the album that describes everything I feel. From beginning to end! Lord I scream the words to this song with her because the pain is felt!

I absolutely understand why Adele can't bare to sing this song live. I can hear the pain in her voice, especially in the end, "I tried!" Having gone through a separation with my husband when I was 30, and being a single mom in an instant, it was a time to reflect and figure myself out. I broke up with my partner today. He tried to mold me into someone I know I can never be. This song is a reminder for me that I deserve to do what is best for myself and my life instead of trying to morph into something else and hope for the best. I can't live that lie, I have to be real with myself and start loving the beautiful girl in the mirror more. She deseres so much more than what I have given her. I hope I can come back to this song in the future and feel a sence of peace, healing, hope, and growth that replace the tears I have right now.

Sounds like real piano and zero auto-tune. You can literally hear her backing away from the mic on the belting parts, almost like it was a one-take. Slight double-vocal at the end but doesn't seem like much processing besides some reverb and letting her do her thing. One of the best vocalists of our generation. I lost my mother to COVID last year in July. It has been six months of completely agony and pain, because she was - and still is - the most important person in my life. I don't know why, but listening to this song makes me feel a lot more connected to my mom. Especially this verse:

When people tell me that the newest album doesn’t sound like Adele, I point them to this song. I’ve seen many people cry to this while hearing it and I can’t blame them.
I can't stop the tears from rolling down my cheeks, this describes everything I am feeling, everything that I am going through in such a subtle yet powerful way. Oh my gosh, yes, I can just imagine someone getting a standing ovation after the last belt of I tried…No, not really. Adele is good, but Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Celine dion are the ones who have superb voices with clarity in the upper, middle, and lower part of their range. I’m speaking of them when they were in their prime like Adele is right now.

13 years with my husband.. 14 miscarriages.. 1 still born.. 3 beautiful healthy babies... and its been almost 3 years since he left me and our babies. I'll own i made some mistakes..we both did. Adele, thank you for this one momma, this hit me in the heart in more ways than one. almost 3 years and the wounds still feel as if they were from yesterday ..fresh..bitter...broken. hes all i knew for so long. his family was my family. (i have none) i lost everything i knew for 13 years in 2 hours. a whole lifetime. GONE. Just like that, i was and am nothing. I see my mother-in-law in town and she walks right by as if she never knew me. that hurts. My heart stops every single time he comes to pick the babies up each weekend, my heart stops when i think hes going to just say hello to me when he does arrive. nothing. Silence. I'll say the hardest part for me tho, is each and every single night i go to tuck my babies in and kiss them goodnight i have to speed out of the room to keep them from seeing me ball like a baby (currently doing so while typing this) cause all i see is him in their beautiful little faces, they have his smile, laugh, the list goes on, and then in that moment thats when it hits me, that question that makes sure its on time in my brain every night just like clockwork- "why wasnt i good enough, what could i have done differently, why did he stop loving me, does he hurt like i do, does it bother him to see me the way it does me?" so so many questions...then comes the 2 hour crying alone in the bathroom session....just to get up and survive the next day all over again.. im so so sorry to anyone that has ever felt this pain, i wouldnt wish it upon anyone. Ever. Adele thank you again, this was a hit and run for me momma, straight out the feild ha. I hope our pain will one day be used as our strengths. i hope this pain will lesson, just a little at least. Hopfully thats not asking to much.. or maybe just ,maybe i deserve it.

It’s hard to be strong for your babies cause you just wanna give them the world and be an inspirational mother at the same time, but we have feelings that get in the way of things. If him and his family doesn’t bother to even say hello to you, f*ck em girl! I know that’s easier said than done but there’s not point in crying all your tears and pain for a man that won’t do the same for you. Love yourself first and love will come and find you. Don’t go looking for love it will come to you!! You got this. 😌 stay strong for your babies but more importantly for YOURSELF. ♥️

i am so sorry for all you are going through. i can actually feel your pain through these words and it hurts even though i do not know you i cried like i did!!. Stay strong for you, your kids will draw strength from you too. cry if you have to, it can a relief sometimes just make sure you add more strength every time you do so that eventually you find yourself crying less and less cos you are getting stronger and stronger.. avoid in-laws until you are strong enough to just say 'hi' and walk by (even if they dont respond). Learn a new skill, go dancing, join a social club, make new friends.... basically occupy your mind with so much positivity that the negativity will have no choice but to flee! Eventually, everyone will wonder what makes you tick... The pain will definitely go.. just a matter of time... feed it with positive thoughts and actions. I can't stop crying! It feels like after 10 years of a very painful divorce while raising our only child there is a song that articulates the exact feelings and words that my heart feels. This song is the conversation that one day i'll have with my daughter about love and loss. I would've love to stay and give her the home she deserves with both parents.
