DOOMSDAY prepping is usually seen as the preserve of paranoid off-grid types living in fortified bunkers, but one New York City firefighter is convinced even city-dwellers should be preparing for an emergency. ‘Urban prepper’ and married father-of-five Jason Charles has stocked his small fifth-floor apartment in Harlem, New York, with enough supplies for him and his family to survive alone for around nine to 10 months. He has 10 knives stored securely in his apartment, including a BK9 combat knife, and another 50 or so at his lock-up in the Bronx. His ‘End of the World’ closet is packed with medicine, water, tools, and even homemade detergent, and he keeps a ‘bug out bag’ on hand at all times in case he needs to leave the property at short notice. True, but it's no time to turn them away, we must now take on the roles of leaders. They will have a lot to learn. I'm finding that even though many looked at me like I was crazy, now they are listening to every word I say, and good thing they are every step of this I predicted, came true. 1st was when I seen gas prices going down and while all the good ol' boyz said its a good thing I knew it was a very bad sign, I said things are about to get MUCH WORSE months ago. I said to buy food and everyone I told, did so, and they had food even now that's it's running out, then I said plant a garden, they did, and then a couple of weeks later we are told that food is being destroyed, and my next prediction, I'm giving the world a 20% chance of recovering before social descent"without running Fishers Exact Test" and" I knew there were going to be armed protests before it happened". If we don't go about hings the right way then we're going to see the breakdown of governments at the national level world wide, and either local governments will take control or we will descend back to the Warlord system; however we will maintain things like food/internet/ and other things just at a much smaller scale, like what happened after the fall of Rome.

I noticed at 2:37 in top left corner is a box of procedure masks.
You can buy surgical masks and N95s ALLOVER MANHATTAN every corner store; every vendor on the street. Now NYC is giving out 7.5 million cloth masks for free in NYC. Only healthcare workers had the problem because they couldn't bring their own masks to work.

I doubt that he's laughing at anybody. I'm a big time prepper, much more than him, and I'm not laughing.
I could be wrong, but I believe the worst is yet to come. The just in time food chain is taking a big hit. The farmers are plowing their crops back into the ground because they can't get rid of them. A food shortage could be in our near future, and now would be a good time to prepare for that, just in case.
Buy lot's of canned food. Unless it's citric, don't worry about the best by dates. Canned food is good for years past that particular date. Milk can be frozen for 6 months. It will be a little yellow when thawed but will taste no different than fresh.

Sorry, but I don't even do Facebook, but I can give a few tips off the top of my head, so I might ramble a little. I consider anything less than 3 months to be short term. More than that is long term.
Like I said before, if someone isn't prepared in any way, I would suggest cans, cans and more cans.
I'm so far ahead on can food, I seldom eat the contents within the "best by date." Cans that have gone bad will usually swell and become a little rounded on the top and bottom. But the last resort is the smell test. If it's bad, you'll know. I've only had 2 bad cans that I can remember and both of them had bad dents in them. Dry beans are the more economical route, but I have them in reserve for extreme long term, in mylar bags at around a hundred pounds each.
Pasta and rice are your friends. In their original package they have about a 3 year shelf life. If put in mylar bags it goes up to 10 years easily. White rice will keep much longer than brown. Brown rice has too much oil content. I keep a lot of diced and whole canned tomatoes. With some type of pasta canned tomatoes, tomato paste, beans and chili powder, you can make anything from goulash to soup or chili with whatever meat you can get your hands on.
Salt, pepper and sugar last for ever. Long term storage salt should be pure salt not iodized. The salt won't go bad, but the iodine will. I put sugar and salt in one quart freezer zip lock bags mostly for convenience of storage.
Water can be a possible problem should things get extreme. Instead of having to boil water, I would suggest a filter. A filter like backpackers use will work for drinking water. The Sawyer squeeze is very good at about $25. Any plastic coke bottle, like a 2 liter will screw onto it or a couple of bags come with the filter. And have a plan where you might be able to get water other than a store, should it come to that.
If you want to clean water faster, Berkey is the way to go, but cost about $300. Berkey black filters only, not the white.
Water is #1 priority. Three days without water, you're in serious trouble.
