Sorry, but I'm pretty Sure the Crate GFX212, sounds far Cleaner/Clearer, and tighter, than the PRS does?
Lots of TONE specialists will tell me I'm wrong or an Idiot, because the Archon is a Tube Amp, and the Crate, is Solid state?
well in this case, I'd take the Sound from the Crate all day long, to know how my amp will perform, regardless of where im playing
or shape of the room, I'd take that any day, over spending an hour, trying to clean up a unclear, muffled, amp
I used a Peavey 112 Special 160w solid state, teal stripe, on stage for nearly 30yrs, and could depend on the tone, and clarity
no matter of venue, size, It could come off the roof rack, travelling, bounce down the Motorway for 100yrds, and still never miss a beat
You'd plug it in, turn it on, play all night, without an issue, or fart or splutter from the Amp. I now own a Valve Amp(Tube) and am Just not
as Impressed as I'd hoped to be
I am actually an accredited tone specialist, and I have good news: based on what you have stated, the Crate does indeed offer better tones for you in this test, and you would be well advised to seek out the Crate over the Archon for a tone like this. So you are cleared, my friend. Seriously though, I think it would have been interesting to hear other gain levels like mid-gain, edge-of-breakup and clean because those might offer more of a chance for the Archon to demonstrate why people really love those and tube amps in general.
PRS sounds great!
It is hard for a 1X12 cabinet to complete with a 2X12 for volume. 2 speakers move twice the air that a single speaker can move.

The PRS sounds more compressed and EQ’d compared to the clearer and more ‘open’ sounding Crate! This will equate to being ‘louder!’ It is very raw sounding. Yes, the PRS is tighter. The Crate is ‘slightly’ looser but not by much! Is it worth the dough? I would take the Crate, any day!

Regarding volume and headroom, I don't think it's fair to compare an open-back 212 to a closed-back 112 with a speaker as inefficient as the V-Type. Other than that, Greg Ginn was solid state all the way, and no one has a more definitive punk tone than that.

My high school punk band played Crates and they ripped. If you play high gain rock, a cheap Crate will get the job done. Did the PRS sound better? Yea… I thought so… but is it worth more than 10x the price? I don’t think so. Hell…. You could probably get the best of both worlds with a Fender Mustang GTX100 that models like 50 amps and cabs or around $300 - $400. That amp doesn’t get nearly enough love. But if you’re broke or just don’t feel like spending even $100, you could do a hell of a lot worse than the Crate.

Which OM guitar, out of all that you have tried is your favorite? I'm had mainly dreadnaughts, but am seriously considering an OM. Collings and Bouchet have caught my attention.

Tube amps are NOT needed anymore . I'm sure I'll get slammed for that . The modern solid state amps they got are amazing . And to be honest this 90s Crate amp sounds great .

For what that prs costs, you could find a silverface fender and a distortion pedal that won't sound like it has a blanket over it
@@jasondorsey7110 Ha! My guess, Jason, is that Jeremy knows his Crate a lot better than the PRS. If he lived with the PRS for a while, I'm sure it would deliver anything he wanted. At any rate, those old silverface Fenders are commanding a bit of change, now-a-days. :)
