The very first time that I heard Cobham play was with Mahavishnu, he blew me away with his playing. One of the great drummers of all time.
Saw Billy Cobham in the 70s, playing at toad's place New Haven connecticut. He was playing a fibes acrylic drum kit with ,"War clubs" and the whole drum set was shaking violently from left to right..... While he was playing quadrant 4.... I'll never forget it.
As a teenager in the early 70s, I sat right in front of his drum up at a university concert. Totally amazed by his power, intelligence and diction.
A master of the modern drumset and innovator. Thank you
((simplicity + finesse + feel + creativity) * (speed + power + sound + attitude))/humility == Cobham!
I would agree with that summation. Not so sure about the humility though...lol
Man! As much as I love Mr Cobham’s chops, which seem endless, I love his funkiness more! A Funky Kind Of Thing is such a funky track, with some nasty chops also of course! Thank you Bernhard!
Siga dando cátedra maestro !!! Usted es de otro planeta !!!
My favorite drummer of all time❤
Good stuff indeed . Billy cobham is a serious musician .
Zum Niederknien ❤😮
billy cobham the father of fusion funk
The greatest of all time. No contest! 👊🏻😎
Here we go again with the nonsense GOAT comments
@@Martin_Bernard Here we go again with one opinion contesting another …
… nevertheless he is the GOAT (given a bunch of objective parameters) 👊🏻😎
@@flowerlandofjohn That's useless and childish to try to compare different styles and different eras, people always argue under every video of famous drummer "he's the GOAT" no it's Buddy, no it's Vinnie, no it's Bonham, no it's Ringo, no it's Neil, etc. blablabla never ending
@@Martin_Bernard Well, it’s you that’s arguing. I just stated my opinion based on the most objective parameters that I could think of (in the light of Garstka’s video). Just want to keep Cobham’s legacy alive ✌🏻
@@flowerlandofjohn You're not objective at all, it's just your favorite drummer, a GOAT can never exist, GOAT means only one drummer is standing far above the others since the beginning of the universe, I hope you realize this is madness
Thanks so much.
Cool
7:30 Matrix moment.
Brilliant drummer and saw him live in Kuala Lumpur in the 80s but for me the number one is still Ginger Baker.
Billy the 🐐. Argue it if you want but you lose.
Good to see Billy using Meinl and Mapex...
Not any more!😂
Billy plays like left right handed oh wait a minute he's ambidextrous😊
Never seen him with the same drumset twice.😂
Seen him many times.. he doesn’t suck. But he isn’t as good as some think. Clearly there are lots better . Especially since the media we have to see them all now.. there are so many absolutely incredible drummers now
Huh...the drums here sound so much like his kits from all those records in the 70s engineered by Ken Scott. I always figured the acrylic shells of his Fibes kits played a huge role in that sound. But, here he is playing wood shells and it sounds pretty much identical.
I wonder if Ken Scott recorded/mixed the audio...
talvez algum patrão ficou com medo de surtar...
Using French grip!
Not bad.
legalismo mata...
Never been a fan of Mr Cobham.... But, if you take him away from the history of modern drumset, you loose a HUGE part of it, as a performer and as an influence
The American version of Simon Phillips!!!! 👏💪🦵🥰😍🔥🇺🇸💙🤍❤️🥁⭐️😁
Let's make a slight correction Simon Phillips took after Billy Cobham.Billy Cobham didn't take out the Simon Phillips Simon Phillips is the European version of Billy Cobham.
@@austinbradley9864 I totally understand what you’re saying :) I was really meaning they’re both very similar in a lot ways and of course they’re both left handed drummers and both of their drum set ups are very similar :)
Billy Cobham first! the inventor!
@@nicolacilli6183 That’s right!
Simon is younger but he was already a pro drummer at 12 years old while Billy joined his first band at 25
Who is the bass player?
Enzo Pietropaoli
You by observing, great spund!
@@soapmanwuan4735 Grazie, thanks!
