The Barrett is based on the real-life M82A1 SASR (or special applications scoped rifle). It is a semi-automatic weapon.
It originates from the united states, and is produced by Tennesee-based Barrett Firearms Manufacturing.
It was designed in 1980 and first entered service with the Swedish military in 1989 - and subsequenty with the US in 1990.
It fires the 50 calibre Browning Machine Gun cartridge, also known as 12 point 7 by 99 millimetre NATO.
In game, the Barrett comes with a scope attached by default.
The Barrett is a high-powered rifle that is usually capable of taking down opponents in one shot.
Unsilenced with stopping power, a hit to anywhere other than the limbs will be a one hit kill.
As it's a semi-automatic, it is possible to fire the rifle quickly - although the massive recoil means the effective rate of fire is relatively slow.
As a last-ditch attempt to stay alive at close quarters, emptying the magazine in the general direction of the enemy can prove quite effective, but under normal circumstances you will want to keep your fire rate low.
The scope is essential for taking out targets at long range, as it has a high degree of magnification, allowing you to place accurate fire beyond the range of most other weapons.
While aiming, you can hold your breath to reduce scope sway and increase your chances of hitting enemies at range - this will quickly become second nature.
As a general rule of thumb, you need to keep your distance from your targets when employing a sniper rifle.
Stick behind cover as you'll be harder to hit at range, and you can duck down to avoid incoming fire.
If you can't get into cover going prone is a good alternative. This eliminates an obvious sillhouette and makes you harder to hit.
Use the scope to scan chokepoints and high-traffic areas, but avoid staying scoped in for too long as danger can come from all angles.
You have a massive advantage when undetected at range as you are able to place accurate and deadly fire before the enemy can retaliate.
Don't be too quick to fire - be patient and place your shot for a one hit kill where possible, and you'll avoid alerting the enemy and giving them a chance to take cover.
If you do your job effectively and manage to kill a few enemies from the same spot, you can be certain that they will make a redoubled effort to kill you.
You can expect a barrage of grenades and rockets to come your way - and it is likely that the enemy will try and get close to you via the rear and flanks to eliminate your range advantage. Nothing elicits ire quite like an effective sniper.
At closer ranges the slower aim speed and rate of fire means you are vunerable - a good secondary weapon is a must - as are claymores to guard entry points to your location.
Shotguns are a popular choice for close quarters defence, as are machine pistols for short-to-medium range.
For the majority of my time with the Barrett, I was using the USP - the fast swap of the pistols meant I was able to quickly take out close-range assailants.
As a sniper, you have great mobility - and it can be beneficial to relocate frequently after taking a shot.
This will keep the enemies guessing your location and help your long-term survival.
Be cautious when moving to a new postion - switch to your secondary in case you run into unexpected opposition, and try and stick to the edges of the map if you can.
Don't be too aggressive - if you end up too close to the enemy they'll have no trouble taking you out. There's no harm in hanging back and waiting for the enemy to come to you. Sniping rewards a more patient style of play.
The Barrett is a devastating weapon when used unsilenced with stopping power, usually resulting in a reliable one-hit kill.
I wouldn't recommend using it in a stealthy role as more often than not you'll get a hitmarker, and the recoil makes rapid follow up shots tricky.
The Barrett is a capable weapon, statistically similar to the Intervention.
Once you know the good spots and chokepoints on a map, you can start doing some real damage to the enemy team. Use range to your advantage and try not to stay in the same place for too long. If successful, you will rack up the kills and sap enemy morale.
I remember first unlocking the barret in cod-4. This beast is a legend itself. Picking off the enemy team one by one with this thing was a daily basis.
The barret is one of the most underrated weapons in the game due to everyone else's obsession with quickscoping interventions. It's got a much larger clip, less idle sway, and the same ADS and draw time. What a pity that it isn't used as often.

No it does not.
Its pretty visible, especially if the sniper is trying to hit you and you're looking in his general direction, it looks kind of like a set of smaller bullets. (And I know there isn't any, it just LOOKS like their is.)
It makes all bullets easier to see, they look like little flames flying across the map.

Another tip for snipers in general is to stay scoped in after a kill so the killcam won't give your position away
It certainly isn't bad with the silencer+stopping power but it does make OHKs a little harder, so I think overall you're better off going loud.
As long as you're aware of ambushes and relocate from time to time I don't think it hurts to let the enemy know where you are - it just draws them into your crosshairs if you play it right.
I could watch this guy play all day. He's just so damned good.

@Tharification It suits the weapons with a faster fire rate better. With a semi auto sniper rifle a better chance at a OHK is probably more useful.

I love this gun. The headquarters of Barrett Firearms is in my hometown, Murfreesboro, TN. I've actually toured the plant where they make these monsters, and it is so badass.

They weren't as good as MW2, but they still did their job especially with Scout Pro. Anyone who can do as good as you put it to be deserves to be recognized, because I almost always ran a CZ75 with me. e___e

I trust your reviews on the weapons I changed my perks and attachments to my guns that you recommended to. And I have to say, the weapons work better for me but i stick to last stand and cold blooded for the blue perk i normally pike Scavanger but with a weapon that has enogh ammo i use Bing or Slight of hand. With the snipers i use the steady aim. Thnx for the tips they are very helpful

The best Call of Duty to ever be created, this game created so many different memories for everyone and for us it was Trickshotting and Sniping on Multi-Player. Now we have SM2 on the way which will be a brand new experience and still be able to relive all those memories we love but we also want and command Modern Warfare 2 Multi-Player Remastered!

just to inform you guys this specfic barrett is the Barrett m107 50 caliber LRSR. It was devolped by Barrett firearms located in Colorado USA and is the next generation of the Barrett m82 bolt action, the arrett is also famous for its unique muzzle breaker of that like a 12 gauge semi-auto shot gun

Indeed the M82's power is defined in this game. For a start, it can actually penetrate one surface more than any other sniper, and also any other weapon in the game to say the least. And it has a slightly bigger damage multiplier on the stomach too, as well as having a much bigger one on the chest to head due to its high penetration meaning it can rip a hole right in your digestive system.
and if you can't snipe like this awesome boss, you can always resort to quickscoping.
There's nothing wrong with quickscoping lmao, it's a fully legitimate in-game mechanic. Can't beat them? Join them.

Barrett kicks so much ass. I love it when enemies just line up on a straight path like the corridor on Terminal or the left and right edges of the map on Highrise.and come in like sheep to the slaughter. Makes me LOL! LOL

The sound of this gun in this game may not be realistic, but goodness, it is the best.
I would of loved to see Infinity Ward do something like "You can't fire this weapon like that" if you tried to shoot the Barrett or the Intervention standing or crouched
the M107 is the military designation for the barret. same thing goes for other guns that they change the name of. The M27 IAR for example used to go by "HK419" before it was adopted by the marine corp but was then given the name M27
I think SitRep pro is a much better third perk. Even though it doesn't say it, it makes your footsteps 4 times as quiet (useful when moving) and enemy steps 4 times as loud (to prevent the likely hood of being flanked), and you can see enemy equipment for when relocating. Not to mention just about no body uses the heartbeat sensor.
Preferred this over the Intervention. Still do. The power this thing delivers is lethal.

The SASR is NOT the Barrett. The Barrett in game is based of the M82a1.

M107 is the us army designation name, the M82A3 is the model number given by the manufacturer.
@dndacindy your class setup should be your own preference. if you feel that this class works for you then go ahead and use it. normally with a sniper rifle i would use sleight of hand. you get the benefits of scoping up and reloading faster. i believe sleight of hand decreases reload time and raise time by 1/2.
i personally use an Intervention w/ fmj attachment, m93 raffica akimbo, sleight of hand, stopping power, steady aim, semtex and stun
