During the week I put up a community post asking for feedback on video ideas. If you read it/contributed to it and are watching this video, thanks so much! I appreciate it. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxxqRhWBax3yyd68BmDiX4XNO_1xEOWX8w
Rainbow edition was actually at least partially responsible for inspiration for Turbo. One of the dev tried rainbow edition, thought it was interesting, went back to play CE, and felt the game was slow like underwater, so they decided to make a faster edition.
Yeah hyper fighting. Faster gameplay, new moves plus some moves could be done in there air. Funny that a hacked verison inspired them. Also funny how widespread these hacked arcades were. Sf2 was massive in the day.
It's amazing when you consider that the bootleg was made in a country where bootlegs are usually made to be the stuff of nightmares (bootleg was made in Taiwan). OH DEAR I CALLED TAIWAN A COUNTRY -1000 SOCIAL CREDIT 😳
To give some history on these crazy bootleg hacks of SF2: As you might be able to see, this was where the ideas in the Marvel/Versus Series started. Heck, in Rainbow Edition, I think you can press the Start button to change characters mid-match, which was the precursor to tag team fights. Capcom took the ideas from these hacks and started putting them in their own games. This is why they made SFII': Hyper Fighting: To give the people what they wanted (things like aerial special moves and faster game speed) so that they would play an official product instead of a bootleg. Then, they eventually made X-Men: Children of the Atom, and the rest is history. Big gaming companies listening to their player base... you almost can't imagine it these days! XD
0:22 That is an iconic Street Fighter character right there, famous for consistently having the fastest walk speed in the series: Skinny Shimmy Slim Jim Dhalsim.
I remember when I was a kid, I came across rainbow addition in a random corner store. When I tried to tell people about this game, they looked at me like I was insane.
I mean yeah, saying "Ryu was shooting _half a dozen_ Hadokens at once-WITH HIS *SHORYU!!!* makes it sound like M. Bison ain't the only one with *Psycho* Power...
@@gxqx797 I couldn't find much about the origins of it, but an interesting rumour says that a Capcom employee played this back in the day which supposedly led to the creation of Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting.
@@deskcombo I love how when you return to the beginning of the loop each time, you break it down differently. One of my favorite remixes of any song for that. Thank you so much!
I have to be honest, I have been listening to arcade music since I was born, I am a great admirer of the whole line of smw custom tracks etc., but, I'll be honest, the music composed by you (which is the background to this video) is the most touching arcade arrangement I've ever heard. it's spectacular. my warmest congratulations and keep it up
@@nightwish1453 Wrong, Ken and Vega's SFV themes are the definitive versions of their themes, and this is coming from an SFIV stand that can't be bothered to play SFV
Yeah never heard them, I just love Karin’s and Seth’s themes and was disappointed in juri’s. I just heard in passing that most didn’t like a lot of the v tracks and most of them are a remix of a remix of a remix and 4 being passable
I highly recommend SF2 Black Belt Edition. It's a rom hack of the SNES version of World Warrior. You can do 2 well-timed shoryukens to clip through the ground, and I'd call that enough of a selling point.
Awesome job , man! In Brazil we call this bootlegs "Street Fighter de Rodoviária" ("Bus Station's Street Fighter"). It was too common to find it on bars and convenience stores. I still don't know how to teleport! hahaha What about a demonstration of death combo pressing start button (changing character between them)?
This brings back memories... We had a hacked SF 2 arcade in my hometown. Many hours spent figuring out what can be done different compared to original.
If you go frame-by-frame in the Sagat/Balrog outtake, you'll see what replaced the palm tree when the game crashes. Looks like Capcom just hid it behind the other layers like the chain on Ken's stage and the street sign/trash can on Chun Li's.
I remember with gief doing the lariat in the air and just kept jumping up past the stage at least 6 to 7 times then command grab the character into the Piledriver gief would keep falling through the level very fast
Ah yes Rainbow edition. I think Gief air lariat got parodied in Pocket Fighter ending credits where Gief doing multiple lariat and he’s flying like a helicopter 😂
This brings back memories when I was a kid n they had all these versions in the arcades. Ah the good oh days when only knew how to shoryuken on the left side.
What strange machine variants, these were. It seemed like many moves had added projectiles, E. Honda's slap threw me off when I saw it. I remember one of the machines at a sandwhich shop near me was also one that let players use grounded moves in mid air.
I remember a convenience store near me as a kid had something like this, was a local rumor that turned out to be true. Honestly was perplexed back then why it existed, now I realize it was for teh lulz
I will never forget when my 7 year old self saw at a mini golf spot in Buffalo NY the large screen version of a Street Fighter II where the special moves in the air and after all these years I am laughing that somebody must have hacked it because at the time it was absurd as this video. Must have been 1997 ish. Thanks for rehashing the memory. Maybe somebody else remembers the machine. I feel like the mini golf place was near Ted's Hot Dogs.
There's a lot in this game that inspired a bunch of mechanics in Street Fighter. The dashing into a button is basically Drive Rush Air SPD and air lightning legs in SFV and SF6 Air Hadoken, Ken's air shoryuken, and Gief's air lariat were in the Marvel vs Capcom games Air Blanka ball is in SF6 Bison was able to cancel into instant-charge moves with V-Trigger 1
Such a head trip watching those crazy signature moves like the hadoken fireball done by everyone somehow. Lol! Easily one of the most iconic games and soundtracks in history.
RUclips recommends me *so* many videos of this terrible version of streetfighter, I'm so glad one finally titled it 'dumb' instead of being nostalgic about it.

seems that post is gone? please please do combo vidz for the modded umvc3 characters like psylocke and monster hunter and ms marvel.
You should see if Koryu USF4 is still available. Would love to see what you could do with that version of USF4
Can we get more vids on these? I would love to see the unique features of each of the different games shown of and explained!
Why did you call dumb your video?
The grounded aerial teleporting mix-up projectile footsies the series is known for.
Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of Vs series in this.
Lol
😆
I’m so glad “ground-based footsies” blew up as such a huge in-joke.
Me argue Rose vt1 is completely fair and not at all cheap.
I think everyone should play rainbow edition for at least... 5 minutes.
Especially with a friend who has never seen gameplay of it
Just to keep them humble about life
It's kouryu
Enough time to finish the game.
I think I played this once and my mind was breaking the more I played it

Sega and Capcom do what Nintendont
Wow. Capcom has been taking notes from fans WAY before SEGA did.
1:21 Ken doing normal mvc2 shit
1:52 = That music and hits syncing is just perfect
2:32 of all the goofy stuff in this video, Sagat winning by turning around and punching the air behind him is the thing that broke me
Guess "Tiger... flame" did half the job?
So zangief spinning piledriving the world didn't?
3:27 and did you survive the flame coming from Sagat's trunks?
LMFAO!!!🤣
Lolol that was him throwing but the throw doesn't always animate. Love the joke

Jesus! A Street Fighter 2 mix of Karin's theme is something I never knew I needed badly until now

Can we just talk about how good that arrangement is 👍
I love how there's an outtakes section, which frames everything prior as being totally 100% normal. Rainbow Edition is magical.
That Dictator combo looked like something out of Marvel. Incredible.
Yes. The MvC3 modders should implement this kind of combo on the character
I really wish there was a way we could access these crazy versions in their SF collections. This was sick desk.

0:43 lol Zangeif's body language and the look on his face is so perfect for the situation
My brain can't comprehend such high level gameplay
That should’ve been vanilla dhalsim move speed
The first fighting game to have aerial combos, truly ahead of its time

He didn't compose it, it's Karin's theme from SFV.
this is just a demake track of karin's theme from SFV, some of the SFV are pretty good just not on the more popular characters

Tiger flame
1:52 hits synced with the beat perfectly.
Bro! That Karin’s theme remix tho! 🥵🔥
One thing I remember from this version is that you don't die if you don't land. Just keep throwing fireball and stay in the air.

We should be grateful. This was the beginning inspiration that led to mvc2
Highly entertaining, and great combo sync with the music at @1:52
This game pretty much exacerbated all the little-known tech in Street fighter two and pretty much paved the way for the versus series.

I remember these editions at my local arcade! It distracted me from playing Killer Instict for about 5 minutes 😂
The zangief being able to catch you in a spinning pile driver without being anywhere near you is the stuff of nightmares
Then he shimmies away after robbing Ryu's round
Alternate title ideas:
"SCREW BALANCE, LET'S MAKE THINGS INTERESTING"
or
"WHEN EVERYONE HAS A TOD, *THAT'S* TRUE BALANCE!"
0:55 Even the crates are pulling a "Poochy returning to his home planet" now!
This "Kanzuki" arrangement is amazing by the way. Wish Capcom would just hire you already.
There are some koryu clips in here as well. Rainbow Edition didn't have Ryu's hado shoryukens lol
He used 3 versions, they are listed at the end of the video.
The OG kusoge
Perfectly balanced. No complaints here.
