    Sound is subjective. I've a UPA 1P pair and UMS 1P pair in my set-up since '98. Paid $8k used. No problems. Chef's kiss!

    great PA speaker, easy to mix on, great midrange details! pair them with two USW-1 sub, it’s an awesome combination. you have to experience them in person rather than video. It’s a 77lb. speaker.

      For sure. I find that these tops (for live music anyway) really need the sub. There just missing something without it - just not enough low end in the tops for me - even for an acoustic gig...and especially if outdoors. I'll drag it out and it's a pita - but worth it. Get comments constantly on the quality of sound from clubowners when we play.

    Did u replace the mackie w the AH? Did u get rid of ur Pa2 n ur lexicon effects processor?
    U dont use the tablet anymore?. I too like faders to set everything up. But wheni go 2 the front. I like taking the tablet ofcourse.
    So, this is wut u r currently running. The AH n the UPA-1Ps. Which sub did u get? N do u use it or wut do u use 4 subs?

      I've got a completely new live rig now. Probably time for a new video. I'm using a Midas MR-18 mixer with my Kemper racked up. I'm using the Meyer's for band gig's and my EAW Redline's more for either monitors on those band gigs or for FOH on my acoustic gigs. They just work better without subs. As much as I love the Meyer's - they just need subs for really anything other than say, spoken voice.

      @@elitsantiago4263 I was really just refining my rig down to the best size and features...with my current setup, it's probably the longest I've had the same stuff that I've been taking out for years now. I went from the AH to the Midas because of space. The MR-18 is rack mountable - the AH I was using was more of a traditional desk with faders format and while you could rack it - it was heavy and took up a lot of space. The downside with the MR-18 is that there are no faders...everything is controlled via ipad so if you have a wifi issue or ipad issue you can't control anything anymore. Fortunately that's never happened - I bought a better wifi access point and bring multiple ipads to gigs so that's really been a non-issue. There weren't a bunch of features of the Midas that I thought were better than the AH - it was mostly form factor...and of course finding something that had at least a similar feature set. That said, I'm very happy with the Midas console. The pre's are incredible, as are the built in FX. The app is great and easy to use and overall just a great setup.

      @Ken Lince how about the pa2?. I noticed u like the sine wave over pink noise feature n the fact that it was also mobile (vontrolled via the app). There is an acillator built into the midas though. Where r u located? Iam in Boise. Man if u were here, u could come out n try out the UPJs, Junior, melodies n minas. The usm-1p, 600hps, 500hps n 750s. I dont like pushing heavy stuff n i like to travel light. The flow has even built in bluetooth connectivity. N u r 100% accurate. Only bink burns post small sets up meyer. Everything feature everwhere r only big deployments.
      Also, all ur chopping n dicing u do it at the board correct, no DSP if u r not using the PA2. I had a guy look up the specs on the meyer stuff n manually loaded it into his drive rack.

      @@elitsantiago4263 I really dont use the Driverack anymore. Just don't need it. I'm either doing acoustic gigs where I use EAW tops only no subs or my Meyer rig where the subs have x-over's built into them. I kept it to use it just in case I do ever need it - but at this point it just sits on a shelf. I'm in Austin, TX. The pink noise function was in the Driverack - i don't have that capability without it but I've been doing this for so long that truthfully I don't need it. And the pink noise thing is so obtrusive that I just quit using it anyway. If you're setting up a PA in a room and shoot it at 100db of pink noise 5 or 6 times...you're gonna have a lot of annoyed people. :)

    Great post Austin, I recently bought a pair of UPA-1a that don't have any pole mounts and have been thinking of doing the same thing. Do you recall the depth and size of holes you drilled in cabinet? Wishing there was a way to not have to change the original cabinet in any way. Have to agree with you about the weight, not the powered version but still beasts. I am on the third floor, no elevator.

    • @KenLince
      @KenLince  4 года назад

      Don't remember exactly the depth of the screw or the size of it you just have to buy one of those things that I show and then the hole that you drill is just slightly smaller than the diameter of that...so really depends on the size of the thing that you countersink in the cabinet. The hole will go all the way through the wood on the cabinet so be careful drilling.

      We have brackets made by ATM Flyware that bolts to the D ring and provides a pole mount without modifications to the cabinet. The other alternative is that you would pull out the D ring plates and replace them with nut plates

    Hi Austin, I am thinking about getting a used Meyer UPA-1P on Reverb. People say that the first two digit of the serial number are the manufacture date of the speaker. Can you please tell me how old your Meyer is and how much did you pay for it so that I can make a good offer. Thanks.

    • @KenLince
      @KenLince  3 года назад +1

      Mine are from 1999. I paid $4k for 2 UPA's and 1 of the USW subs about a year and a half ago when the prices started coming down. I don't know if there are any years better than others - don't think they made many changes throughout the time they produced these but the main thing is to look for units that have been installed and not ones that have been used by touring companies. Worth noting, at least for my taste...the UPA's just don't cut enough alone on the low end for live gigs. Even for my acoustic outdoor gigs where I bring the Meyer's, I haul the sub - it makes a ton of difference to the quality of sound. It's a beast rig though - better make sure you're eating your wheaties before hauling these heavy bricks around. :)

    Which would you choose from these Meyers or Qsc k12.2

    • @KenLince
      @KenLince  3 года назад +1

      I've only heard the QSC's a couple times and they are fantastic. Definitely more portable and easy to get around. The Meyer's are a workout...each UPA is like 80lbs and the sub is easily 100lbs and requires 2 people to get it in and out of my truck (I can do it myself if I have to - but it's not fun). The Meyer's also take some time to get used to. They are so freckin' flat that you really need to get your ear acclimated to them to understand how to mix on them. If you don't know what you're doing - these are cabinets you can make sound awful. Also, I've found that even on the acoustic outdoor gigs that I do - I bring the sub. The tops just don't have enough low end for me to carry it. Add 1 sub with 2 tops and you'll cover a lot of ground. With the sub - these things sound absolutely amazing. I've had a couple club owners come up to me after a gig and ask, "What is the story with your sound setup?". Neither of them had ever heard of Meyer and were amazed at how 'pro' the sound was compared to other acts playing their venues. I don't think you can wrong either way honestly. If you aren't moving them around a lot as a solo act or load in's are easy - I'd go Meyer. Otherwise, the QSC's are going to give you much better portability and similar sonics.
