Thanks for doing this Danny, I am very curious what sort of numbers you get using the P14 Max fans, they are very powerful but loud compared to the regular Arctic P14s. I'd recommend people using a variable power supply in this case to allow quieter operation at 9volts. The normal P14s are virtually silent at 12 volts. Suggestion for a printed guide noted, we do this in our spare time so we've just not gotten around to it but I can appreciate how much easier it would be to have one!

Thank you for reaching out back in April! Don’t want to run the review video but the P14max was probably a mistake on my side as they did run a little loud! But I did make sure to test out different fans as well. Hope you like the review when it’s live, you guys are doing great work 🙏

The lack of structural integrity is a serious drawbacks to this style of PC fan kit. The fan should not be causing such severe bowing if it was properly reinforced. I worry about incidental damage since there isn't cross supports on the z-axis. Without the filters to do the heavily lifting it does not maintain it's shape very well. I went with the Airfanta kit due to the overall value, simplicity and structural integrity. Now Airfanta just gotta stay in business as I'm stuck with their proprietary filters.

The clean air kits use a metal rod that might help but agree all of these designs will be way more delicate than a normal hepa retail or something like the airfanta 3pro or even the Nukiy tempest thanks to its steel frame.
Hope your airfanta 3pro is working well for you.

I lay mine on it’s side when manipulating/changing filters, seems to be safe this way.

My 3 year old is suffering with lots of respiratory allergies. What would you recommend for her 160 square feet bedroom? I bought a 6 fan Air Cleaner Brisk Box for my 400sf basement but I can't have a pc fan kit in her bedroom because she will mess with it in no time. What would you suggest? I'm in Canada. Thanks!❤

Totally understand, I would get something like the Levoit Vital 200S as it has display lock so you can lock it out from a toddler trying to press the buttons! Hope that helps

Well done. Looking forward to seeing how it does. I received my Arctic P14 Max fans yesterday. This weekend, I’ll swap them out on one of my AirFanta 3Pros to compare. Just based on your assembly video, it sounds like CFM/dB at 12V is going to be better than the stock AirFanta fans at 12V.

Thanks. I’m sure you will be able to get more raw performance but the sound level will also be much higher. Be sure to keep me updated on how you get on.

@@HouseFresh Noise is about 10.5 decibels quieter and the pitch it of the sound is lower, which also seems to make it less bothersome. It measuring about 48.5 decibels with Arctic P14 Max fans. 59 decibels with stock fan. Also, leaving it running at 12.7 volts isn’t making the power control excessively hot. It’s still getting warm, but it’s significantly cooler than it was with the stock fans. That tells me Arctic P14 Max fans are pulling less amps, saving electricity cost. So, now I’m all around happier with the AirFanta 3Pro and I don’t mind leaving it running full speed at home. The one in my office, I’ll have to dial down a few volts for phone calls, but it will be 6-7 volts instead of 4-5 volts with the stock fans.
However, the fans were not flush with the plastic top of the AirFanta like the stock ones are. To fix this I had to take the rubber feet off the fans and use the role of felt that came with the AirFanta to eliminate air gaps. Easy fixes. I highly recommend using these Arctic P14 Max fans in conjunction variable speed control to those buying a NorthBox 6XL. That is, if you can order them where you live. I’m in the US and had to use a service called Shippn to buy them on eBay to be delivered to Germany, then Shippn shipped them to me. I bought 4 sets of five because I was pretty confident they were going to be this good based on researching them extensively vs others. So, the low cost of these fans more than offset the extra $60 for shipping vs the runner up options I was going to settle for. However, it wouldn’t make sense for most people to do that. If Arctic P14 fans are all you can get, then I’d go with those. If you have a kit that fits Arctic P12 Max fans, then those would be great too since both of those fan models are readily available in the US at the time of this comment.

@@NickWindham Very interesting and great to see such an improvement in results and a good point about getting the fans that are available in your region. Here in the UK we have lots of options for PC fans but then I find it so hard to find any good priced HVAC filter!
Would you be ok if were were to include this information in our web review of the AirFanta 3 Pro? Would credit yourself of course but seems like there will be others who might be interesting in upgrading their AirFanta.

    • @NickWindham

@@HouseFresh Sure you can include it, and no accreditation required. I was using a decimal meter app on an iPhone 15 Pro Max. That’s not as accurate as your meter, so I’d round down to 10 dB difference to be more conservative, but remind people that’s up to a 50% perceived noise reduction.
Also, I don’t have a CFM meter, but based on feeling the airflow with my hand, I think CFM might actually be a little lower with the Arctic P14 Max fans. I can’t tell if it’s my mind playing tricks on me because it’s quieter though. To me, a major noise improvement is worth a minor max speed CFM decrease. However, this does make me curious how the modification would perform in your smoke test at max speed and at about 43dB, like the second to highest setting at which most people will usually run a sub-$200 Levoit, Winix, Conway, etc... So, I would like to ship you a modified AirFanta at my expense you’re interested in making a comparison video. I also wouldn’t mind
sending you a couple of extra P14 Max fans so you have enough to test them on your DIY kit purifiers that can fit 140mm fans.
Lastly, you might find it funny that I literally asked Chat GPT what Europeans use in their HVAC systems if they don’t use air filters. It said air filters are less available in Europe that in the US because large central HVAC systems are much less common for residential buildings in Europe than in the US. That was an “oh, duh” moment.

Sorry RUclips Studio is terrible for sharing replies to comments! thanks for letting me use the info will likely be a few weeks before we put it live and will make sure to add the proviso about the sound meter.
Thats for your kind offer but don't worry I have quite a few P14max fans so can test it here without needing you to spend anything. How easy was it to remove the fan casing forr the Airfanta? Will be sure to test it in our test room as see how it peforms at top speed and sub 45dB.
Haha yeah ChatGPT got it right, as we all have central heating there just isn't the market so you have to import which can add 50% or more. I am thinking of buying in bulk lots of the 3M filtrete as they are very good and I love the performance to sound ratio you get with a device like the CleanAirKit Luggable Xl.

I have ten acrylic version. My concern is I can’t hear it. The fans are working, but it makes no noise. I got it prebuilt and I’m wondering if the fans they provide have multiple speeds ?

Seems like a good problem to have! I used my own PC fans with this kit so it runs much louder than those they reccomend. Likely you have the P12 which are very quiet.

This is an aside to this specific model but about PC fan air filters in general, I hear different fan styles can improve static pressure, so I'm curious what something more advanced like a blower fan design would do to performance characteristics of something like this or the Nukit Tempest (steel frame so increased pressure hopefully doesn't make it collapse entirely).

    • @HouseFresh

More pressure should increase total airflow and so improve CADR. Would love to test, do you need to build the blower fan designs yourself with a 3d printer?

@@HouseFresh Yeah I believe so. I don't think blowers normally have the airflow going straight through back to front, it's normally from back to the side; so existing commercial fans aren't a drop in replacement for a PC fan.
From googling one existing 120 mm fan blower, it's specs don't match or top the Arctic P14 performance specs, so you'd have to have someone put in enough R&D time to try to make a better one I guess, idk. The youtube made one hits 8.7 mmH₂O , which is larger than the 2.40 mmH₂O by the P14; though I'm curious about its cfm results; though it does go outside the bounds of a normal fan, so it cheats a bit.
Actually comparing Arctic P12 vs P14, am I seeing this correctly, P12 has better specs. 81.04 cfm vs 72.8 cfm. 4.35 mmH₂O vs 2.40 mmH₂O. Oh it's a higher current fan, so P14 was probably chosen for efficiency and less noise.
      Anyway, neat stuff. :D
