That sentence was particularly beautiful
what struck me the most in this interview, is that he is absolutely incapable of lying/pretending/posing...he took so much time to answer some questions out of this inherent urge to be honest...
He answers very literally and when someone asks him his favourite something and he doesn't have a definite answer he feel compelled to be honest and say I can't choose, and that's the end of that 😂
You just had to paraphrase my comment, didn't you?
Integrity and honesty are clearly very important to him. After his Carnegie Hall debut in the early 90’s he became famous in America and went on lots of talk shows. He was told by many people afterwards that he was too direct/honest when answering questions and that he didn’t schmooze or charm enough.
I get the sense his honesty comes across in his piano playing also. There are no airs and graces, no phoneyness or special effects, just raw and honest music.
I think this is why he is such a unique player and why despite him being lauded by many as one of the best pianists alive and a very special musician, there is a very vocal minority who dislike his playing and why he sometimes gets slandered by music critics - it’s honest and raw, sometimes brutally so.
I love this. He takes every question so literally lol! And you can just tell he doesn't lie and just tells you how it is with him!
This dude is "weird" is all the best possible ways. Very likeable!

He is a very intelligent man, beside being a piano genius. I'm so happy to see him smile and laugh here, because it's rare. Vladimir Ashkenazy said of Kissin as 'Very, very nice person." Among all the nice pianists, Kissin is something else nice, he said. Just truly genuine soul. I can tell there is ZERO evil inside him. Such a sweet, considerate, pure hearted man. The kind of man who will be your true friend. .

Indeed, he's like a 19th century gentleman. He likes music and poetry. And he's humble, yet he perspires talent and genius.
He just carries himself as kind, thoughtful person. Talent, handsome and great personality. He has it all
well then check his last statements about wars on Russia and Israel and reconsider your comment about him.

Makes me wonder if he would prefer Pinochet's dictatorship over Allende's democratic government unlike the pianists who perform Rzewski's "The People United Will Never Be Defeated". I suspect he would. Absolute cringe.
He was adorable in a weird way and hilarious in some of the answers. At the same time he was intense and thought very hard to the questions which he seemly took seriously.

my piano teacher met him when she was studying at the Tchaikovsky conservatory in Russia and told me he is a brilliant pianist but a bit strange and Im so glad I found this interview to see what she meant. LOL i love him!

We studied Yevgeny Yevtushenko in my Russian class many years ago. I still have a book of his poetry in Russian. Alas, my expertise in the language has virtually disappeared. However, I shall research the poem you mentioned. May you continue ti grow and share your amazing talent with the world.
