From one chainsaw girl to another, nice chainsaw. The black handle on the top front is a brake to stop the chain from spinning when starting the saw, or not cutting wood. It is a safety feature so you don't accidentally get cut. To stop the chain, push that black handle forward. Hold the trigger steady when cutting, don't keep pulling it. Also, I think your gas/oil ratio is too rich with oil. The saw should not smoke that much when running. The saw will save you a lot of time. Be careful. Be safe. ~Kitty

Please tie up with some experts and do something with the chainsaw first cos it shouldn't be smoking that much. And while using that thing please make it sure that your footholds is strong cos you might trip or fall and hurt with the machine.
