Join me on my dirt and pavement adventure, filmed on 3 cameras, riding 2000 miles on my Honda XR 650L motorcycle to journey from Denver through Hagerman Pass, Kebler Pass, to the ghost town of Crystal, to Blue Mesa Reservoir, to Crested Butte.
I crashed my drone on the final day of my trip, so I apologize for the non- 4K drone footage in the video. My next video will be back to full 4K.
Bike Review: This was my first time riding a dual sport motorcycle (as opposed to my usual Triumph Bonneville), and the Honda XR650 made it easy. It coasted over the baby heads and sand of some of Colorado's major passes. On the highway it was much more comfortable than I expected, mainly due to an upgraded gel seat. Comparable bikes: Kawasaki KLR 650 and a Suzuki DR 650S.
Locations Filmed:
Hagerman Pass - Moderate
Kebler Pass - Easy
Crystal Mill (Route 3) - Difficult
Blue Mesa Reservoir / Curecanti National Recreation Area (Route 92) - Paved
Name of Film: Mettre le Contact

This deserves SO MUCH more attention. I couldn’t compliment you enough on how amazing this video was!
The best
What a beautiful video this really stands out as something different. Your thoughtful words really resonate with every thing riding solo on my motorcycle means to me. You have just inspired to stop looking at google maps and go and book my next trip. Freedom!
Chris, I just discovered your Canada trip in my RUclips Feed and then I binged on all your videos, and of course, I subscribed. You're a fine storyteller and videographer. Keep 'em coming.
Hope your channel grows man. its simple and relaxing. Open roads the no roads, the blue sky, just exploring what your heart desires. Its the kind of freedom that i like.
Also the videography🤘🤘🤘🤘
Absolutely love all you videos! They are motivating mets get out of my comfort zone and go ride to new places. That's a new goal of mine for 2023 thanks to you. Thank you
You seem like you're so content riding alone - thanks so much for taking the time to share. I just returned to riding after finding a bike similar to the one I rode in 1984, bought a new camera and plan on doing some more riding around here - Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and more. I can't wait - you really inspired me and helped me realize that I made the right decision to start riding again.
Amazing video, your writing inspires me to travel more... Keep making more
Cheers thanks Aslam!
A superb video! The scenic shots are amazing, the background music is great, and of course your words are quite meaningful. Just a couple of weeks ago I decided to begin riding again after 27+ years, at age 57. I'm getting a WR250R delivered probably tomorrow, and I'm as excited as a kid at Christmas time. There may come a day when I'm physically too old to ride - but that day has not arrived yet, thankfully. Enjoy your adventures!
Sitting on my desk and clapping to the beauty of this video! 🧡
Great video, and narration. The part about not putting things off till tomorrow really hit me. Thank you
Thank you!
2 thumbs up for the Marcus Aurelius quote, really great job on the video!
Very nice video, well spoken and great cinematography. I got my M endorsement at 17, and at 57 I’m still riding. Live life!
Thanks Jeffrey! Anything changed in motorcycling over those 40 years? Your mindset? The brand of bike you ride? How much leather you wear?
Awesome video. I grew up on duel sport bikes and recently went to riding a 3 wheeler. I am happy to say that I will be adding a Honda XR650L to my shed tomorrow. I found a great deal on a 2009. It looks like brand new with only 4100 miles for $3500. I took it for a ride and couldn't stop smiling. Instantly handed over the cash to the seller. Officially mine tomorrow. Keep up the good work. Subbed also.
So true. There will never be a right time, you just have to go.
oh my god , i cant express how connected i feel to your ideas !!
Cheers thanks!
This video hits different Chris!
Love the story and the b-roll on this one. I did pikes peak and million dollar highway this year. This video definitely makes me want to go back. Thanks so much.
I watched this video probably a month ago as I was searching the Internet for Adventure Bike ideas. This weekend I pulled a 2012 XR650L that hadn't ran for several years out of a guys backyard. I stayed up until 1:00 AM cleaning the carb and working on getting it running. 1:30 AM was the first test ride. By the end of the day I had put 200 miles on it. Can't wait to get it setup and hit some trails. Great video. JC.
Thats what my wife and daughters said the next morning. Why didn't you film all that and make a video? Sometimes filming things gets in the way of the actusl work and distracts me. Might have to put together a retroactive video with some pics and then update on future mods. Great Channel buy the way. Most of us have no idea how much time it takes for you to set up all of the shots it takes to put your content together. JC.
Wonderful advice Chris! Couldn't agree more. At 53 started ADV riding last summer, and now dream all winter long of this next summer's views, smells, and memories to be made. Thanks you for spreading the message so visually beautiful. Well done, and wishing you a great 2021 of the same, eh :-) 🇨🇦
One of the most underrated channel in the universe 🥲
Awesome video on all accounts, lots of truth & poetry, beautiful images, much inspiration, and... my next motorcycle in a couple of days...
Academy award for INSPIRATION
You make fantastic Motorcycle videos. Thanks for capturing the essence of what it is to ride.
Also, can't wait to do some trips this summer. I am always finding an excuse! Too busy, not enough vacation, too expensive. Screw it. I don't want to regret it.
This is an absolutely amazing video! I love the story it told, the scenery, and of course your motorcycle of choice :D. Keep up the awesome work!
Fantastic video. Quoting Marcus Aurelius put it over the top for me, and then you even showed one of my favorite books, Desert Solitaire. Bravo.
By far one of the best videos on Adventure Riding I’ve seen yet.
Well done.
Very inspirational, thanks!
Narration is great, editing is great, video is great
Dual sport and enduro bikes are the freakin best.

Couldn't agree with these words more. We'll never know if we don't go. Love your videos, slowly making my way through them one by one :) Great work! Love these mature Hondas still looking up to the job

Bellísimos paisajes, muy bien tomados.-Un viaje soñado, muy bueno !!!!
Beautiful, bought a xl this summer. Next summer, big roadtrip
I love your videos, they moved me a lot. Congratulations!
LOVE the intro! Also, good video (Y)
Chris, awesome video. Strange, when my want for a bike license and purchase of a bike waned and the thoughts of, hell why do it at this point in my life, your video and tells me a story of why not and the beauty of it. To go for it. One step at a time. Your video is motivation in motion. Thanks.
I have a Honda XR 650 L also and I would love to do this exact route where did you get gas and how far apart were your gas stops awesome video you’re living my dream.
That was just getting going real nice, moving into something more complex, when it ended. You could definitely make longer films. Seriously, this could have been the intro to a movie.
Sincerely, sooooo good! Keep up the awesome work-I’m inspired!
Awesome video! A joy to watch and super relatable. Well done man!
greetings from Poland ! :)
Completely amazingly beautiful video, it makes my heart fly. Hope to do this, this comming summer!
Emi Aikawa thank you! Go explore!
Great awesome video! I signed up for basic riding course for next week. This video just makes the anticipation even more greater, lol. Love the video and thanks for sharing!👍

Great video
absolutely beautiful
beautiful video😘
Nicely done! I've had a lifelong love affair with the (simple) honda xrs!
Beautifully shot man!
Thanks Amanda!
This is so on par right now. I just bought an XR650L and am doing the Smokey Mountain 500 starting next weekend. I was going to a Brapp style riding video but this has inspired me to do a more romanticized narrated cinematic video. Thanks for that!
Sounds awesome - love that part of the country for motorcycling. I’ll be sure to check out your video once it’s uploaded!
What’s a Brapp style riding video?
Dude love the commentary if it wasn't winter I jump on my bike go for a ride
Hey, Chris. You done a great video. Keep it up.
Excellent Video... TY for sharing
Nice ride
There is One God. I trust Him and ride. He takes care of me in All.

Touching mind when you talk. Simply brilliant !! Please let me know the back ground music details.
my favorite landscapes. Прям как у меня за углом, только без каньона)) Класс!
I've already made contact (purchased my motorcycle) now I got to get that license.
The DMV can be tricky but good luck!
👏👏👏
This is the third video I am watching.. and this is the third motorcycle you are riding.. what up what that ?
Wonderful video and excellent quality, thank you. I love riding my sport bikes but as I get older, I have that calling to get a dual sport and experience the off road. Did you mod your XR? Or is it stock?
Very nice video. Congratulation on your adventure, and sorry for the drone. What model was it?
Love the thumper sound. Did the xr650 do anything a CRF250 couldn’t do?
Man 🧡
Great video! Thanks!
Hope you found the drone? :-)
Beautifully :))))
Really enjoyed the video! Could you share your route?
i hope you know how profoundly your thoughts on these ideas are able to effect someone
Nice video! Where is that location? (2:45min mark)
Thanks! That’s Crystal Mill in Gunnison, CO
great video bro i have 2017 xr650l and i am on cape cod rn and i want to do trans america trail, but im not sure how to come back from that trail, is the same way possible?
Wow. Pa Shout Out Idol.
Where did you rent a dual sport in Colorado?
But can you wheelie
Who did you rent through?
Just curious: What would you have done had you leg go the bike in 2ft deep water and it sucked water in and hydrolocked the motor and bent the valves?
Looking to find out if you had an evacuation plan or just winged it regardless
@@thambu19 fortunately the water crossing was not too deep but yes, sometimes you just have to wing it. Also - this mountain pass is a somewhat popular overland and ADV route, so someone would have come by within an hour or so.
@@ChrisIronhardt sometimes i ride alone and when i look back at the footages i feel things could have gone wrong so many times
what a depressed mode this is
Anand you dersve it
And how you earn for your rides
