How NOT to fish - Fishing FAIL

So we're out there fishing for leather-skinned bottle-necked goliath giraffe minnows and all of a sudden I hear something fly over my head (his lure) followed by a big splash. I turn around and spring into action. Tom done threw his whole damn rod in the water. I was like what the fuck, dude? If you didn't want the rod, you could have atleast gave the damn thing to me. Right?? I felt hurt.
