i can feel the spirit of John in Ravi. goosebumps!
Nice to watch the Coltrane and Garrison current generation together.
+Juan P I have seen Ravi about 15 years ago but I don't recall the other quartet members, when in Athens Greece....grate player much overshadowed by his larger than life Father of his.....
+Juan P
I saw the following line up in Athens 2011:
jack, ravi & David Fiuczynski g., George Colligan p., Jerrome Harris, bass

This trio is magic. TG we are lucky enough to experience the mastery of Jack De Jonette. I have to see them live!
Magnifique !!
Dank Katerina.
Blue Note always gives us the finest. So happy to be sharing my name with Guru Ravi Coltrane!
JACK BE NIMBLE JACK BE QUICK ..CAN YOU HEAR THE SOUNDS OF HEAVEN FLOWING THROUGH THOSE DRUM STICKS....YES LAWD...SING HUUUUU @ OPEN YOUR GOLDEN HEARTS...LOVE...MJM
Pure gold
wow just amazing.. every time i listen to this beauty of musical connection, it brings me a smile! Jack is starting to be one of my most favorable drummers :)
Get his sticks!
Love how loose it feels, and how tight it is at the same time 🤩
Christos Voskresi!
And yes, I concur.
@@MaximusWolfe Indeed He is Risen! 😊
That's in part because they are all on the same page in how they approach the music, loose relaxed feel while they are in sync with each other. The mark of all great musicians is they are great listeners, they listen very closely to each other, while still being in command of their instrument.
What an amazing tuning on his toms! Jack is at the top of his game, much like Tony Allen these days. Drummers don't get old--they get better!
Actually, drummers are like elephants; they never forget anything. They just feel it more...
A Love Supreme Tuning...
Roy Haynes would have to agree with you
Notice the contrast in the drums : most drummers tune their entire set one way, with close intervals. Not jack... the tiny tom is tune extraordinarily high, like a timbale; the other tom more traditional jazz, while the floor toms are as low as fusion or rock tuning. He likes sustain for his toms, but a dry snare and bass drum. By doing this, he greatly extends the range of pitches available to him.
“A jazz drummer is a guy who never plays the same thing once”
Shelly Manne
Wooooohoooo wow and insanity! Such an amazing performance 👌 Holy wow!
What a beast these guys are!!
Qué placer es siempre escuchar las bandas de Jack, eleva la música a lugares increíbles siempre!
what a personnel, amazing stuff!
JDJ’s mad underrated
Incredible. Doesn't get much more legendary than this.
yes, it does, this is fucked
It's no sin to be a great man's son. Great on his own.
Pure ecstasy, letting "that" manifest itself.
the late Terry Deane told me his story of Ravi coming into his repair shop with Dad's horn...(!)😍
THANK YOU
やはりベースが核になる。新しい印象を与えるにはドラムとベースの音質は非常に大事な要素になる。 Matt の才能は素晴らしい。
Thank you for uploading!!
Ravi!
That tone!
Only in jazz, or so it seems, are giants's children equally as gifted and humble as the giants themselves. Blessings for generations!
Love Jack D.
Beautiful
They don't make 'em like these guys anymore!
I once heard Ravi play Wise One and Journey into Satchanadana by Alice together as one tune Matthew Garrison of course is the son of Jimmy Garrison this trio is coming to Grand Rapids this April
WOW!
The way he emulates the melody on those toms is insane
A love supreme jack always adds that Hook lol Ravi The west valley miss Terri RIH my sister flying lotus your son doing his thang love the whole family truly
Satisfying quiet passion.
Such at ease!
This was very good - I hope it finds it's way onto vinyl and/or CD
Jack you're my GOD !!!
Sorry to hear that. Instead, look to the true God who endowed him with such talent. You will find much greater reward.
Thank you BNM :D I submit. directly. TY !!!
El espíritu Trane !!
Beautiful tunings on the drums...
indeed! Jack always has a great sound
Jack de-RIPPER. he don't need no band I'd like to hear him with some woman musicians DANCE-N-DRUM!!! THANKS FOR POSTING! MO SCALY-WAILYS......
A new approach to a love supreme
Different song actually !
I was there! Really great concert!
Me too!!!!
+Philippe Clement I wasn't there.
Me too wasn't there
I wish I was there...
Matt's thumbs are the key to his guitaristic style (m9 and 4chords); hope they stay strong. What a lineage.. Jack de J. is nicely into it, as he should be. Proper trio interplay: strip it down and get to the heart of the matter. A five piece is like a supertanker. This is turn-on-a-dime jazz improvisation. Like Way out West. and there's always the groove (6.00). Ravi Coltrane should be more famous than he is. He has the deepest knowledge and should have stepped more out of the limelight; imagine Donald J. Coltrane.... lol.. Guarantee Italy to get the deepest art out of hip US performers... Love it thanks for post !
that sax has got such a warm deep voice ........
Some ground loop in there!
Lehmann Peter,xf
still love your drumming!!
Great Super Cool
Legendary names meeting...
How much finer this could be if Elvin had had a son on drums and McCoy had a son on piano / a second coming of the Classic Coltrane Quartet
Everyone's mentioning "A Love Supreme". Do they not hear John Coltrane's "Wise One"?
Wise one is from The album Crecent, a great coltrane record!
Naima
Something about a trio--bass, horn, drums--that works great. You don't miss the keys, and it has a certain depth to it that is different...I am not sure what the hell I am talking about...but I love the sound.
That hum in the background killed it for me.
No doubt!
😅
You killed it for your self. Everything has to be just so for you to engage it. Pathetic.
Nice sounding drums
It!
The trio of wizards
It's weird how much Ravi looks like his dad; rip
big big big Matt
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
4:42 os tons estão afinados com a "A Love Supreme" do Coltrane ou eu to viajando? oO
it`s real talk!
Wow
A Love Supreme
TODAHYAH,TODAH ;YAHBLESSED 4 TRUE>>>>>>>>>>HALELUYAH !
Shalom. Dode! I loved the tune and I'm a fan of All of them but Matt didn't bring much to this in my opinion...
Jack on Yamaha drums now...not Sonor! Eh, it really doesn't matter. He could be on Pearl Exports...give him an hour fixing up a set of those...magic will follow anyway.
it's blue note's yamaha drum set ;) jack still plays sonor drums
Agreed totally. You took the words right out of my mind. Toms way too high in pitch. His Sabians are magnificent. The way Jack splashes his hi hats adds so much color. His playing is beyond words.
Sound like he's playing 'a love supreme' in those first tom sounds
no shit
Matt Garrisson , technically he's the most impressive electric bass I've ever heard . Complexes licks, arpegios and virtuosity ... even though that video 's not representative of what i say, he seems to be sometimes unlimitless on his instrument,
'unlimitless' :D
Check out Hadrien Feraud...and get back to me..ps..and yes Matt is a wonderful player
David Reinhardt. Yes indeed ! .. Adrien Feraud is also very very impressive !!
These two guys Matt and Adrien come probably from an other planet. ! 😊
What a playing they have, oh my goodness !!
@@maracuja55 I agree, my friend..both are great players.....I personally think the 2 most exciting things to happen in music in the last few years are Hadrien, and Jacob Collier...(not to take anything away from anyone else of course...)...I personally haven't been more excited about those 2..since Jaco came along....
Edit : the floors are tuned on the mid-high side actually, but still so far from the other toms, the range is phenomenal, almost a whole 3 octaves!
Jack's also a fantastic pianist he hears the sounds and notes in-between the space and what his soul creates just magic never seen Jack on a Yami kit off course he can play on anything interesting thks for uploading great Trio Big ears
Mucho Mucho Lindodondo!
my fifty-pound 7 year old has just determined that this is the ideal music for cheek-chucking, as I call it, in which he rolls up in a ball and I toss him, because "it's weird" (decided when ravi came in on that altered scale). my arms hurt
if only elvin had a son to play with them :O
and mccoy
...as though Jack DeJohnette's not good enough? :)
If you ask me, Jack Dejohnettes playing is very similiar to elvins
@@aidanschram9652 Definite a heavy influence of his
@@aidanschram9652
I would disagree. Very different approach to rudiments and accents. But they are both magnificent players. Just that Elvin was the greatest drummer who ever picked up sticks.
That look on Jack's face at 12:36
Your a great artist but your music is over my head.
I wonder if Ravi experience the spirit of his father(John Coltrane) while playing his father's horn and it wipes him into an outer body existence ?
I often wonder that too, though I don't think I could ever ask Ravi that question
Damn ground loop.
it looks like a casino with good taste in music.
😀🌱💙🌼
ya but does he fly fish
When did JD start playing Yamaha? Thought he was a cast iron Sonor man. Sounds great though.
He plays Yamaha when the venue can’t get Sonor. Being as they are in Milano, prob. the case but we’ve seen that here stateside too, like at SF Jazz. I asked the same thing and was told by people who work w/him.
4:40... A Love Supreme, A Love Supreme, A Supreme, Supreme Supreme.... Yes? :D
beautiful performance of great musicians - but what is this audio hum in the first few minutes? It sounds like an amp problem and it really distracts my ear. Or is it a drone or effect? A little confused ...
It’s me farting a little more loudly than was my purpose.
It bemuses me so that no one tried to correct the static noise.
WTF??? Different Jack never heard him like that...
Is it a buzz from the bass amp?
Jack DeJohnette Project - Bela Szakcsi Lakatos: Round Midnight ruclips.net/video/zMHF9LLfFes/видео.html
He forgot to put the snare throw off on 😛😛
wew 3:35 did he miss his shot? -__-
+cavin natalio it's a jazz. :D he put it elsewhere.
+cavin natalio - yeah so what hes 73 and this is jazz it dont matter
yea he did, you can see it in his face
8:47 A Lick Supreme
"A love supreme" on the toms
exactly!!!!!!!! Amazing
I stick to traditional St. Louis jazz myself. But much respect. I find it touches me the most.
He play skins...what more is there to say?
4:40 A love supreme?
Magnifique, si ce n'est la buzz récurrent et le niveau de la basse trop faible. :)
how dare you post a video with such beautiful musicians within a big bass static noise in it that makes it unlistenable ?
I believe that it is there on purpose.
entitlement b!tch
I thought it was a drone sample they were playing against at first but I'm pretty sure its noise. that being said at least there is a record of it!
It doesn’t make it unlistenable in the least.
snares off
Love Matt's playing but never been a big fan of his tone.
Good point, me neither! Anthony Jackson has the beast post-Jaco sound to me, it is like an upright, and a high end electric in one!
If it is all Jaco sounds, I’d rather spin some Jaco records 😎
原始的でめちゃNikoかっいい。。。(^^♪このドラムずっと目指しています。
Jacks a mixture of rudiments, jazz and African influence. Hes a bit too much for the average drummer, like me! But I admire him anyway
not my tempo
When did Jack start using YAMAHA Drums?
Yamaha junk drums? Sonor FTW!
He could play a cardboard box and it would still sound like him
The House of Spirits band 📯🎼🎵🎵🎶🎶🎵🎶🎵🎼🎷🎸🎸🎹🎺🎻📀💿🎥🎬💲😎🇵🇹🎼🎵🎶🥁🥁🥁 anyone alive to play music?
Looked to me that Jack was either really struggling or he was off at times on purpose. Matt seemed to have to be holding it down best he could.
Paul Watts your not a drummer I assume?
You are incorrect, sir.
