    Also have you heard about the EQ2 orgins server that just launched? It takes the game back and mimics the 2006 version the best they can with a very limited cash shop, no appearance items or p2w in it. Its a very good oldnschool mmo server. Over the years eq2 changed the mobs in zones to weaker more soloable mobs. Now in origins the normal mobs you encounter are back to how they originally were being more elite and herioc encounters encouraging alot more group play. Plus they took mercs out. The server is always on heavy population right now even when i login in the middle of the night. Onlything is you need to be a sub to access the server. But the chat is very lively like the old days and with tons of people looking for groups. So far i dont think any expansions are added to the server either.

      Such a good feeling playing Orgins right now, leveling is slower and it's easy to find people to group with.

      Yeah Nathan streams it. Looks pretty fun honestly. Wouldn't mind taking a break from EQOA and playing that for a bit but the Mrs is about to enter the fray once i get her PS2 setup this weekend hopefully.
      If she had her own PC we'd be down without a doubt.

    What might be cool is a bonus to grouping in 2's since the play population might be a bit loot to find a full party. I think a full party will last all night though and you will make alot of close friends.

    Brother, I always watch your videos and I think you're a well reasoned man. I will say, I'm not against keeping things at a "vanilla" pace... when we go live. Right now, we're testing. I'm reporting quest and ability issues on the daily, and it's really only been with HumE SK. There aren't very many people reporting bugs, except for item bugs for w/e reason. However, the "rant" post from Sonto in Discord was about "the new player experience" and why us veterans weren't grouping with and helping them, where we pivoted to xp rates because most of us believed it to be the root cause of not grouping, whether with newbs or not. That is categorically an issue, and not in line with what it was on live. I never once considered not grouping on live for grinding, but rn in SS, it's broken.

      I want to foot stomp that WE ARE IN A PRE-ALPHA TESTING PHASE. I appreciate that people are getting their nostalgic kicks, but treating the current state of the Sandstorm server as anything other than testing is ridiculous. Access should have been kept to players willing to acknowledge that there will be broken everything and that the purpose of access in this state at all was strictly to find those bugs to assist with development. Imagine if people were participating in WoW closed Alphas and were complaining about increased xp rates or instant max levels... while we are testing.

      Lastly, when it goes live, I still think there are still arguments to be made about xp rates/HnG quest, etc. SoE, for all their faults, had implemented Boon and Pickclaws, Roots, Storyteller quests because the playerbase was at end game already. So I ask: what has changed? The vast majority of our community are veterans of the game and are going to get to 60 in a month. Then what? Let's be generous and say within 6 months, majority of the vets will have multiple 60s and we'll be at the identical end state of live. So, do we just wait until then to put all the aforementioned leveling boosts into the game or figure out a different way to address that problem? Final overarching question is: why should we release in a "vanilla" state as opposed to picking up where we left off at Sunset, with us now at an even more reduced population, and fewer newbs, than we were?

      I wasn't addressing Sonto's rant, in this video i was covering gen chat. If exp rates are high on launch i'm not going to bother.
      This split in the community over things needing to be more modern is disheartening, and i'll go to which ever server is staying true to the original vision of the devs around the time of launch.
      Like i said, if they want to add exp bonuses months later it doesn't bother me as much. But i want to take at least 1-2 characters to end game the hard way, because that's part of what i loved about EQOA.
      I just think it's a shame everyone else doesn't feel like that. I quit in 07, those of us who existed pre-boon are obviously cut from a different cloth than those who played after.

      I will report any if i see them so far the game runs smooth i wish gold was a thing also venders working but other than that its smooth. some of my keys don't work on my chat, but I now know why, and it's a work in progress. I think you guys have done an amazing job. Maybe even create a place in a game where we can donate and get prize boxes! 😉 I would so donate to help you guys gain the resources to make this game work properly.

    I agree that progression in modern games is just too expedited. I've been enjoying EQ2's Origins server and feel like they nailed the exp gain just right.

    When you really think about it EQOA is an enigma over any other game in my opinion. 1 everyone in our generation like you explain why EQOA is awesome, so no need for me to beat a dead horse here lol. 2 You brought up a good point of how this game is a journey, and it really is in more ways then one. After the sunset the outpour of love was really amazing to of been a part of. Starting from the petitions we signed, watching old EQOA recordings people posted, being nostalgic overloaded by watching someone post the entire EQOA soundtrack. 3 Fast forward to now where everyone can play on this fan made server. ENIGMA. When the majority of You Tube creators shit their pants when recording copyrighted music in the background, the fans of the sandstorm server give the middle finger and create a sunrise🌅👍👍 So enjoy the journey, stroll on past the Qeynos coach and merc the stable boy. 🤸

      Yeah it's hard to feel invested atm i have to agree. I stopped doing quests for that reason. It's nice to have the content up on quest guides etc, but it's a lot of work.

    I definitely like having it take longer normally, the feeling when you hear ding feels like an accomplishment. But I agree right now in the testing faze it should be much faster cause alot of people are soloing right now so I'm trying to level up myself and just not as enjoyable as it it grinding with a group. Plus everything is going to get wiped anyway so why have everyone spend alot more time leveling tools your going to wipe.

      Also if they take the leveling out of the game with boosted xp your going to take alot of the game out, and the game will feel small like you said with limited content.

    It's true there is not a lot of content, but the custom stuff added so far and that will come later will help, but to use endless grinding to make up for the lack of content is not ok. If people want faster xp they can get a xp boost, those that don't, don't do the quest. Also about the grping problem (it is a problem, that's the point and fun of it) there is just not enough players to help that, plus the ease of multi-boxing is compounding the issue. I think the reason mmo's have gone to 95% solo content is due to the hard times in slow periods where ppl can't get grps, the time that ppl have is not always the same times to grp up with the same crowd. The one exception to this is when ppl know each other in RL. This game needs ease of play right now with it being in like a alpha/beta state. Also I'd like to add that this game was never pretty and 90% of the gear is ugly as **** so why can't we all easily get gear that we would like to play in while all this is somewhat(that's me being nice, it's total) meaningless? I get we all want to relive the past, but we never can, but we can have a facsimile of it and except it for what it is.

      If they added that into the test server it would be great. In live that doesn't work, if they put a quest in for say boon, you can't tell other people "just don't use it" it's unrealistic. If they launch with boon this game is dead in 2 months tops. There's simply not enough here to hold the attention of most people for very long.
      The custom stuff needs time to cook, and while it's cooking exp rates should remain pre-fronts imo.

      @@EQOAnostalgia I played a lot back in the day on CLW. Only got to see some of the end game. You know what I remember from that game? Grinding my whole summer. Not really hanging out with friends. Spending hours at "best xp spot for X level". My time is way more precious now. I would never repeat that. If my choice is play the game as originally designed or with boons and the games dead in 3 months that's an easy choice. 3 months of fun is better than completely skipping it.

    Ever quest isnt about the end game, End game is a journey is something in its self. But the journey from level one to max it something you fall in love with your character with. Thats whats magical about this MMO, Ill never ever forget EQOA for that reason. I never even got to max level I had a few 40-45's and a couple werewolf forms I was also 14 but always thought the max levels were so cool.

    I agree xp boost now and when we start getting more ppl go back to slow xp when we can really make a party to grind with

      Lard commented on the discord that it's planned to have increased exp at higher levels so more people can test out more things. I think as the game becomes increasingly more difficult to solo, they will be boosting exp rates. Which makes sense.

    People want instant gratification and don't want to group with others.
    They are wrong on both.
    The slow xp build and need to group is what creates the journey those of us who played originally found so compelling.
    I agree, for testing purposes, the xp gain rate should be increased temporarily for testing as Sandstorm is built out.

    I see pick claws made it in. Another hng it used to be all the rage once boom came around. I remember dawn maiden. Then the herbs and roots from the orcs outside freeport? And trees at 45 till 60 Then you get cm and whatever mc you wanted.
    I just remember that was the flow lol

      I left around 07-08 so i didn't do much of the HnG stuff. I remember doing a lot of Siloths and Giants for rings, and herbs outside of FP though.

    I feel like you missed the whole point of that flames/rant thread. We were discussing group XP vs solo XP and the primary complaint about the XP rate was that the group XP is way too slow because the XP split formula is not what it was on live. Right now group XP is about 1/4 what it was on live without boon/luck. We just want it fixed so that grouping is more optimal than soloing like it should be/was on live. As it stands, it's WAY more brutal than it should be.

      Not really since people were complaining they want boon and have a job and family lol. Exp rates for grouping feel about the same to me. The problem is you can solo reds with ease, when the game is back to being absolutely brutal and you're lucky to solo a mob that cons white, exp rates for groups will naturally feel faster, because you'll be pulling reds at a brisk pace.
      Oh and i wasn't looking at the rant thread, i was looking at gen chat.

    Can you guys not just create more quests, also have quest give items, maybe even pvp can help make the game stay interesting?... i am hooked though ngl i have wanted to live in this world for lobg time and finally i now get a chance im going to soak it up!

      Correct, that's going to change soon, and with all the whining i see pretty much daily from people about their class getting nerfed, gear getting nerfed, mobs being harder than live (which is bs in 95% of cases) and exp being slow. I imagine a bunch of people are going to wash out when debt is a thing again, and nobody is soloing anything above a white conned mob until high levels. 😆

    I fear end game will be hard to accomplish in general. It will def have to evolve into guilds/ 1 major guild having whatsapp chats etc to coordinate logins for raids, but then what? log off and select few will never get a chance for end game gear. maybe maybe

    Before i jump in and get this running, is there a way to respec your character? I would like to go enchanter animator style, then switch to charm afterwards. Not sure thats still possible (it would overcome a lack of player base).

    The XP was always an issue, especially for a solo player. You also had the horrible XP debt. If you couldn't get a group, forget about it. Also, the returning players, for the most part are adults with jobs and families. I just don't have the time nor the desire to spend the hours I used to when I had nothing better to do but grind at the same camp all day and night. There is no point in torturing ourselves through that. I've been there and done that.

      That's their problem. The exp was never an issue. I'm an adult too and i can find the time. Hopefully they will have a server for all the weaklings who got spoiled by modern mmo philosophy, and those of us who want to work for our gains can have ours.
      If you been there and done that, and that's your take, stick with other MMO's.

      Yeah but that's not how life works, people will always choose the path of least resistance if given the option. If others are getting to lvl 60 in a mere days and you're not... you're just gimping yourself in multiple ways including the race to good loot.

    Once this project is complete and its source code is available, I'm going to try to launch my own server with quality of life improvements and "reasonably" faster leveling (not too much), for people who don't like falling asleep as you keep pressing the same few buttons over and over. Unless someone else beats me to it. And f I can, I'll add new content. I know that last part sounds like high ambition, but we need Kunark, Velious, and Feydwer. Even if they're completely unexplored in this time period. When it comes to EQ1, a lot of people consider all of those places to be the vanilla game. It was the original trilogy (og game, kunark, and velious). And nothing newer.

    Group XP is to low atm and nothing will change my mind about it but once we get higher level we can prove it since there are videos... also since wiped been confirmed they need to stop wasting people time with grinding single character and let people test all classes... boon should never be a part of the game, luck 2x xp is enough of a boost. After first 60 people will level fast no matter what.

      I think that's just a perception issue. People have it easy now for solo, when you're getting whooped by white mobs and in some cases, dark blue casters it's going to feel A LOT slower to solo, than it does to group up and burn through reds at speed.

      @@EQOAnostalgia People also didn't max stats on live during beginning and mid levels and lots people were putting tps into wrong stats. Also once NPC get a a HP boost solo wont be as efficient because you be drinking every kill.

    Meh xp is what it is no need to increase it we have so long before a wipe who cares. Most of us have waited so long to play eqoa again the leveling is so fun. Yes I know most of us are boxing but when the group xp gets changed leveling will be different tho there will still be a lot of boxers more groups will be available. Other than that f the luck and boon that only reminds me of the end of the game

      There is a certain subsection of the community that whines ceaslessly lol. It can really get under your skin and i've seen devs push new content, and instantly get crapped on. It's made a few of them rather short tempered with the community and i think that sucks.
      But yeah most of us are just happy to be back in Norrath.

      That might happen with the two servers planned. One of them might be boosted and the other more Vanilla. Splits the community up but... it is what it is.

      @@chriswicker6672 Xylov is, but they can't take dono's without legal problems. I hope they sell merch or something on their channel at some point. Pretty sure they can use the EQOA logo with Sandstorm on it and things like that. So long as it doesn't say "EverQuest"
