same 😂😂 or when Magnus and Alec where in the car and Alec was like, " take my hands, and my strength too. whatever of it you can use to-to keep yourself going."
Also, I think Simon and Clary got together because Clary was trying to stop herself loving Jace as she believed they were brother and sister. So she got together with Simon, hoping that she would develop feelings for him and forget her feelings for Jace. Which didn't work out, obviously, as she still loved Jace and only liked Simon as a friend.
I don't think the faeries are perverted, necessarily. The Seelie Queen is just cruel and likes to taunt them. Also, when she said they were blood related, she didn't mean they were brother and sister. She meant they were blood related because they were both descended from the Angel Raziel and they both have angel blood in their veins.
Throughout the whole book, Clary and Jace were literally looking at each other and it felt like eyef*king. They are supposed to be siblings but uh.....
When she went to tell Jace that she loved him and he was like: "I'll be your brother from now on" I was like NO NO NO NO YOU STUPID WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN JUST GET TOGETHER JESUS WHO CARES ABOUT THE RIGHT THING and then the book ended and I was miserable until I got City of Glass (which was like 3 days later, but still)
Omg me too . Like who cares if you’re sibling I bet deep down they know at least a little there is a potential there not siblings . They should have done a dna test
am I the only one who likes Clary? Think about all that she has gone through. She is an extremely strong character. I didnt mind Tessa, she wasn't my favirote because she never acted, she always waited for someone else to do something. She did have moments but Clary was so confident and awesome. Her relationship with Jace is amazing because in big ways their relationship is strange but you really feel for the characters. I love the mortal instruments and it is just my opinion
I'm so proud of Simon for just saying 'no, I want to be appreciated and loved the way I appreciate and love you and clearly that's something you can't do so we're just gonna have to be friends.' SO PROUD OF OUR LIL CINNAMON ROLL! Because we never see the 'other guy' find the courage to leave (in books with the love triangle trope) because he really does deserve better. #welovesimon
To be honest, even though the Jace-Clary situation was super ew, I'm glad Cassandra Clare kept it in the book because it added so much more realism; like yeah, they're siblings stop fantasizing about each other but I guess feelings, especially when you're in love with someone, are hard to get rid of. But what frustrated me was that while Clary was in love with Jace, she was making out with Simon, like as a distraction, and I was like you don't play with someone's feelings like that! -_-
That the inquisitor died made me really sad, althought she was a horrible person, but her past affect her bad acting and at the end her open heart get showed❤️😢
I think she went for Simon because she knew Jace was her brother and she can't go there so she move her feeling onto Simon thinking she would forget about jace, but overall it was amazing book !
You need to read The Infernal Devices before City of Heavenly Fire! I know, three more books and a different series, but you'll appreciate COHF so much more if you do and it'll make more sense and be more clever :)
Also, in reference to City of Ashes, Simon's relationship with Clary also annoyed me so much. It felt so forced and the Seelie Court scene... creepy, and I knew the same thing as you! But still, uber uncomfortable. I loved that Simon turned though! I was in shock after reading that! He was a really clingy, whiny and annoying character to start with. He's one of my favourites now. He goes through one hell of a journey and grows a lot.
Maryse is, believe it or not, my favorite character! She is such a strong character and is just a boss. I noticed a lot of points you brought up and I kept thinking 'wait until you read the 3rd & 4th book'
I wanted to see who Jace was casted as in the TV series and searched Google for Jace Wayland halfway through the first book and it showed "Jace Herondale" and I practically threw my phone on the floor
This video is so old but I'm just starting to get into the Mortal Instruments. I know I'm late to the party. City of Ashes wasn't my favorite because they were making me ship incest (I also got spoiled). I didn't like Simon and Clary together. I also thought there was very little Isabelle in this book. But I did love all the action in this book but the freaking Inquisitor annoyed me. I am now on City of Glass and really enjoying it
The books get sooo good as you keep reading the series. I read this exactly a year ago and I loved seeing you review it because I agree with you on a lot of things. And yeah lack of Isabelle in CoA. I think you'll like the infernal devices, by the way!
Haha instead of buying the book when its released i waited until all the books were released and i bought them all at once so when i was done one book i could get to the other book ^-^
I really hated Clary and Simon's relationship in this book, and with Jace is the same... A quick question, have you read TID? I need to know what you think of those books!
Jesse I don't know if this is on your copy of the book but on mine it goes from page 242 to page 275 it skipped liked 30 pages? Is this on your copy of the book?
great discussion! i'm watching a bunch of booktalks about TMI because I forgot a ton of stuff and I don't have time to reread the series before starting CoHF.
I have been obsessed with this series since I discovered it. I LOVE this book, and I knew in my heart they should be together. This book had me yelling, cursing, banging on my knee/table, etc. So great! And I'm on the 4Th book starting today. :)
I haven't read the infernal devices yet but I've read city of heavenly fire. It didn't bother me, still such a good book and I can't wait for you to read it!!
Am I the only one who empathized with Clary and Jace and Clary's situation? They couldn't help how they felt so I was never mad at them, they tried not to feel that way, and even if messing with Simon was wrong, she was trying to force a square into a circle trying to be close to Simon the way she felt about Jace, I've never done what she did, but I do not judge her because I totally understand how difficult her situation was to cope with, and even if she did do the wrong thing, and/or maybe that's the whole point to realize that no one is perfect, maybe it's normal to be frustrated with certain characters the way we get frustrated with people in real life.
I hated clary’s and Simon relationship, it was so awkward and weird, I don’t know it just didn’t felt right and, when they broke up I was really happy. But then jace broke clary’s and my heart with that ending 💔
I read this book pretty much in one sitting (it took me 8 hours) even though my family was dragging me around town ALL day (all I want to do is read, is that so much to ask for) and I have to wait an entire DAY to go to the library tomorrow to pick up City of Glass (no offense to the people who had to wait like six months for the next book to come out; I appreciate and admire your stamina)
Yay you finally have read this book! I just finished this book too, and I agree with all of the things that you said about this book. THE SIMON AND CLARY RELATIONSHIP WAS WEIRD. Question - have you read the rest of the series yet?
Wait, what about malec!? In my opinion (even if there wasn‘t many malec scenes in this book) malec ist the best relationship, OMG THEY ARE MY LIFE. LITERALLY MY LIFE!!!
I just started the book series.. And we have the same reaction about jace and clary (3:54). Haha i hate it too. But i think there will be a twist in the next book. I just finished the city of ashes though. I agree also about Simon and clary (6:03)
Alyssa Klein no no no dont, please read first tid before the last book of tmi, because there are some major spoilers and the precuel is so amazing you should read it without knowing things...
For me, the best scene in the book was when Jace is with Valentine on the ship and he starts to see all the demons above e below him, all the different kinds of creatures! That's just amazing! I absolutely WORSHIP Cassie's criativity and writing, and she is my inspiration to become a fantasy writer! BTW, great video, Jesse! I really like you :D
Have you read The Infernal Devices before? If not, you should read them after City of Glass, or at least befor city of Lost Souls because otherwise you'll miss a lot of important details.
I have only read the first book in this series: City Of Bones. And I had no motovation to read the second book. But after watching your nonspoiler part of your review, I want to pick it up. Thanks! jessethereader
I found it interesting that we learn that Valentine abused Jace. Come on anytime marks given to you by a person are reminders of that person, they've abused you. It helped me get Jace a little better.
Finished this book today! Some parts I just sped through cause it's so good and others I just wanted to cry about how slow pace it was.. Loved the ending! Simon and Clary relationship was super awkward I hated him up to the point where he changed from then on I grew to love him! I'm giving my head a rest for the night but i'm starting City of Glass tomorrow
I knew the truth about Clary and Jace from the beginning. Like when they "show" Valentine for the first time. I was like "Oh here, Clary's father". It was weird to see Clary and Jace as "siblings" even if it was for a short period of time.
I loved this book! I agree, such a step up from the first one. I like learning about the downworlders more in this book, especially the fairies and vampires. Can't wait for the rest of your TMI discussion videos :). I hope you do these when you read TID too because there are so many feels in that series!
I remember reading the ending and then just falling apart and crying because clary was about to tell jace how she felt about him, and then jace interrupts her and tells her that he'll start to act like her brother.
@jessethereader I really wanna know when was the first one you picked cassandra's book and specifically mortal instrument ? And how much it took you to read the whole?
I finished City of Ashes a little while ago as well! I really WANT to like Simon's character but I feel like at times Cassandra Clare writes him to be annoying so that we ship Jace/Clary more or just dislike him until something terrible happens to him and then we feel bad. I think he's actually a funny, selfless guy (especially in the later books) and I don't think we got to see enough of that side of him in CoA! I'm 100ish pages into City of Glass and loving it so I can't wait to see your review of that one soon!
I actually really do ship Jace and Clary. I know they're related and I usually am not on board with incest ships BUT this is the exception and if someone else doesn't ship it I get it...but I ship it and I'm going to continue to ship it.
Clary as a character really pisses me off sometimes but she’s also relatable. I feel like in the fighting scenes she’s pretty useless and I keep wanting to yell “DO SOMETHING” to her. When he grabbed the sword toward Valentine I finally sighed with relief because wow she can do something other than watch?!?!
This whole series is so good that I'd like to reread it again!! Have u read City of Glass? That's my fav by far! Jace and Clary relationship was just weird
I have kind of mixed feelings about this series, but what I absolutely love is all the secondary characters and how well you get to know all of them. That's really what kept me reading through all of them.
I just read it as well, and I LOVED it so much! Really excited to go on with the series. Also, I really liked and agreed with your review/booktalk. You're awesome :D
Finally someone comments on the Inquisitor and how she was about to tell him something right before she died! I literally just finished this book today and haven't been spoiled, but my guess is that he might be her grandson that she thought died *shrugs* I don't know I guess I'll have to read on.
+jessethereader Please please please give me a link of the movie I love that book i saw the first movie and I'm crying right now 'cause I can't find the movie.
Your going to love City of Glass because it gets even better than City of Ashes. I really enjoyed hearing what your thoughts were on this book. Can't wait to see what your thoughts are going to be on City of Glass. I really liked this book when I read it, but it is not my favorite of the series.
I'm so glad that all my issues with this book you covered. In fact, what you said about the characters and the situations between them bugged me so much I stopped reading after the third book. I was just tired of it and didn't see a reason to continue. And I tried, but book 4 didn't interest me at all.
I really love the part when Alec is about to confess to his parents. It's hilarious!
That was the best part in the book!😂😂
Oh yeah!!!
same 😂😂 or when Magnus and Alec where in the car and Alec was like, " take my hands, and my strength too. whatever of it you can use to-to keep yourself going."
MALEC scenes 💕
I was like "Oh dang, it's about to go down!" Then Magnus sort of knocked him out I was like 😐....😂😂😂
Also, I think Simon and Clary got together because Clary was trying to stop herself loving Jace as she believed they were brother and sister. So she got together with Simon, hoping that she would develop feelings for him and forget her feelings for Jace. Which didn't work out, obviously, as she still loved Jace and only liked Simon as a friend.
Yess exactly!
Ella Ingram He wouldn't know that yet though cuz he didn't read 3rd book😂
Spoiler much!
Clary is such a frustrating character. I just want to be her friend so I can tell her how frustrating she is.
😂
😂😂
Throughout the whole book, Clary and Jace were literally looking at each other and it felt like eyef*king. They are supposed to be siblings but uh.....
"What happened to you"
"I took a walk"
"Did you run into some vamps"
"No I fell"
"On your neck?"
Anyone else like this part
When she went to tell Jace that she loved him and he was like: "I'll be your brother from now on" I was like NO NO NO NO YOU STUPID WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN JUST GET TOGETHER JESUS WHO CARES ABOUT THE RIGHT THING and then the book ended and I was miserable until I got City of Glass (which was like 3 days later, but still)
Pauline Liu
Who cares if their siblings and it's incest and literally disgusting, right?
(I've read the whole series, so I know what happens.)
LMAO SAME
Omg me too . Like who cares if you’re sibling I bet deep down they know at least a little there is a potential there not siblings . They should have done a dna test
@@booklover7931 thank you so far you are the only one I've seen who has mentioned that they should have done a DNA test so thank-you
Ikr all I wanted was for them to be together. I was like," who cares you're siblings, run away and live happily ever after"
am I the only one who likes Clary? Think about all that she has gone through. She is an extremely strong character. I didnt mind Tessa, she wasn't my favirote because she never acted, she always waited for someone else to do something. She did have moments but Clary was so confident and awesome. I love the mortal instruments and it is just my opinion
Keely Kirkpatrick No I love her character and her development throughout the series
Keely Kirkpatrick same
I love her too
MK Vlogs finally someone really gets me
The Clary and the Simon relationship made me cringe. 😣
Brin_ 184 same
Yes it was very forced like she finds out that her and jace are related and then her and Simon are together...
Ooh. I kinda disagree, I liked it but I prefer Magnus and Calgary
Tbf, relationships at that age are so cringe
I'm so proud of Simon for just saying 'no, I want to be appreciated and loved the way I appreciate and love you and clearly that's something you can't do so we're just gonna have to be friends.' SO PROUD OF OUR LIL CINNAMON ROLL! Because we never see the 'other guy' find the courage to leave (in books with the love triangle trope) because he really does deserve better. #welovesimon
Yay another TMI fan!!
Shadowhunters unite!!
YESSSSS!
imogen was like a second umbridge through almost the whole book
OH MY GOSH THIS IS SO TRUE HAHA
No way, she was more like Snape in my opinion at least.
Umbridge was so much worse.
I knew that this stuff is epic and so I bought all 6 at once!
I bought the complete series
same
Lmao does it look like I can afford that
£102.88 for the first 12 books at waterstones
18 books in total

Just because it was wrong doesn't mean people don't do it, she did it because she WANTED to feel for Simon the way she felt with Jace.
That the inquisitor died made me really sad, althought she was a horrible person, but her past affect her bad acting and at the end her open heart get showed❤️😢

Maryse is, believe it or not, my favorite character! She is such a strong character and is just a boss. I noticed a lot of points you brought up and I kept thinking 'wait until you read the 3rd & 4th book'
YAY! You finally read it! This is one of MY FAVORITE Series! Please keep reading on and doing Book Reviews!
I will! :)
I think that I read somewhere within the books, maybe it was Luke, that Mayrse's name is pronounced May-Ris or may-erse. :)
i'm so happy that you are reading tmi! i feel like most people take this series for granted and don't teally appreciate how good it is.
So excited that you're reading TMI! Can't wait until you move into the infernal devices :D
FREAKING LOVE YOU AND THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS JESSE
I wanted to see who Jace was casted as in the TV series and searched Google for Jace Wayland halfway through the first book and it showed "Jace Herondale" and I practically threw my phone on the floor
thanks for the spoiler😑
dude SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME GODDAMIT IM SO MAD
Fuck you so much
I HAATE YOUUU
this also happened to me with the Throne of Glass series
What about some appearances of Magnus?
You described the awkwardness between Clary and Simon perfectly. I hated their relationship.
This video is so old but I'm just starting to get into the Mortal Instruments. I know I'm late to the party. I'm going to be reading them soon!
I've noticed he always wears a black shirt when he does a TMI book talk😂😂
Jesse I don't know if this is on your copy of the book but on mine it goes from page 242 to page 275 it skipped liked 30 pages? Is this on your copy of the book?
Can't wait for the next review! What Shadowhunter Chronicles book are you on now?
I love this book! This series gets better and better with each book!
Yeah!!!! I can't wait for you to finish this series Jesse!
great discussion! i'm watching a bunch of booktalks about TMI because I forgot a ton of stuff and I don't have time to reread the series before starting CoHF.
You're bringing back my early tmi feels!
I have been obsessed with this series since I discovered it. I LOVE this book, and I knew in my heart they should be together. This book had me yelling, cursing, banging on my knee/table, etc. So great! And I'm on the 4Th book starting today. :)

I like the display of the TMI books on your shelf. I have yet to read CoHF. also, 1:14 is the best!
Thank you! :D
I hated clary’s and Simon relationship, it was so awkward and weird, I don’t know it just didn’t felt right and, when they broke up I was really happy.

i saw your books on the second shelf and nearly cried because you have alex's books and they are my favorites
Malec!!
I really hope you do continue doing these book talks! I'm currently on book 4 and will most likely finish the series by the end of June!
I'm gonna try to stick to making them for this series! I'm having too much fun reading and talking about them. :) Are you / Have you read TID?
I haven't read them yet but I definitely plan on reading them as soon as I'm done with The Mortal Instruments series!
Alyssa Klein no no no dont, please read first tid before the last book of tmi, because there are some major spoilers and the precuel is so amazing you should read it without knowing things...
ariadna cisneros Thank you for the advice! I'll definitely pick up the series soon!
Yeah pick it up youll love tid, tell me what you think :)
You are going to love City of Glass. It gets so much better. That is by far my favorite TMI book.
I was so excited to see this review! Thanks for the video :D
I have only read the first book in this series: City Of Bones. And I had no motovation to read the second book. But after watching your nonspoiler part of your review, I want to pick it up. Thanks! jessethereader
One I loved the book and two I am a huge fan for your book shelf
You HAVE to read The Infernal Devices too!! Those books play a very impprtant role in TMI too!!
I found it interesting that we learn that Valentine abused Jace. Come on anytime marks given to you by a person are reminders of that person, they've abused you. It helped me get Jace a little better.
When did he do that?
Finished this book today! Some parts I just sped through cause it's so good and others I just wanted to cry about how slow pace it was.. Loved the ending! this is so true. i LOVE reading it buuuut like the characters annoy me so much sometimes!! with the actions they do. i loved this review !!
I'm glad that you're enjoying the TMI series. I can't wait to hear your thoughts/review on the rest of the books. :)
City of Ashes is not my favourite book in the series, but the Fearless rune incident is certainly one of my favourite moments. ^^
I remember reading the ending and then just falling apart and crying because clary was about to tell jace how she felt about him, and then jace interrupts her and tells her that he'll start to act like her brother.
Cool review! I love The Mortal Instruments.
Ugh I love your videos!
I love all the books ps you are hilarious 😆
thank you! n_n
STOP TRYING TO SINK MY SHIP YOURE HURTING MY CLACE FEELS 😭
I was spoiled! The wholes series!!! My friend spoiled the whole series to me!!!
Idk But i like skittle hahahahah I spoil all the books I read to my friends
Sped read this just to watch this review
I actually really do ship Jace and Clary. I know they're related and I usually am not on board with incest ships BUT this is the exception and if someone else doesn't ship it I get it...but I ship it and I'm going to continue to ship it.

This whole series is so good that I'd like to reread it again!! Have u read City of Glass? That's my fav by far! Jace and Clary relationship was just weird
All the awkward malec interractions or mentions of malec were my favourite parts. That scene with the fearless rune? Priceless.
🤣
My favorite part is when Simon turned into a vampire in the Jewish cemetery.
I have kind of mixed feelings about this series, but what I absolutely love is all the secondary characters and how well you get to know all of them. That's really what kept me reading through all of them.
Was Jordan introduced in City of Glass? If not, what book did he come up in? It's been a while since I read the books.
I think he was introduced in city of fallen angels.
I am reading the book right now
I just read it as well, and I LOVED it so much! Really excited to go on with the series. Also, I really liked and agreed with your review/booktalk. You're awesome :D
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the series. :)
Honestly the Fairy’s reminds me of some of my friends in away
City of Ashes is my favorite in the series.
I am 25. Is it weird that I am enjoying the Mortal Instruments? My friends keep saying the books are for kids and teenagers. I feel embarrassed.
Please don't feel embarrassed
I love your books!!!
So... are the faeries weird, or is it Cassandra Clare? Honestly, I’m leaning towards the latter.
How can you read cohf without reading tid?? I mean, isnt it majorly spoiled!
Finally someone comments on the Inquisitor and how she was about to tell him something right before she died! I literally just finished this book today and haven't been spoiled, but my guess is that he might be her grandson that she thought died *shrugs* I don't know I guess I'll have to read on.
May-rizz? I'VE BEEN PRONOUNCING IT MAURICE 😂😂😂
Well in the show it started with may-rizz then it went to Ma-riss-a so it's fine I don't think it really changes anything
+jessethereader Please please please give me a link of the movie I love that book i saw the first movie and I'm crying right now 'cause I can't find the movie.
Is it just me or is this review SO RELATABLE 😆😱❤️❤️❤️
Can't wait for CoG BOOKTALK
I was so happy when I realised that there were more then three books in the series. I cried though 😭 :D
I used to love fairies!
Your going to love City of Glass because it gets even better than City of Ashes. I really enjoyed hearing what your thoughts were on this book. Can't wait to see what your thoughts are going to be on City of Glass. I really liked this book when I read it, but it is not my favorite of the series.
THE ENTIRE FAIRY SCENE I WAS SPAZZING OUT AND LIKE NO NO NO NO #AWKWARD #INCEST #NAAAAAAH
Have you read the whole series?
I'm so glad that all my issues with this book you covered. In fact, what you said about the characters and the situations between them bugged me so much I stopped reading after the third book. I was just tired of it and didn't see a reason to continue. And I tried, but book 4 didn't interest me at all.
