My grandpa fudd told me that WW2 ended when someone flew over Japan and shot two rounds of .45 down at the ground. Only time someone had to shoot twice with a 1911.
The military 1911A1 was a work horse of a pistol. My Dad died a few years ago. I inherited his "War Box" military items. Uniforms, medals, and other stuff from the war. Wrapped up in a towel was his side arm. The mag was still loaded. It had not seen the light of day since 1968. After inspection to make sure it looked and all the parts moved. I took it out back(we lived on a farm). And fired it. Using the loaded mag. Worked great. Funny how this answers two other ? I see a lot. How long does ammo last and how long can you keep a magazine loaded. The answer to both(at leas for govt ammo and mags) is at least 50 years... You should do some close up shots on your 1911. Did they stamp it US Government Property back then?
Colt 1911 A1 pistol history The Colt gun was designed and designed by engineer John Moses Browning. It responds to an increased demand from US forces engaged in the jungle, and wants to have a handy, compact and robust pistol. The choice of the ammunition fired by this pistol was the subject of much debate, and the decision was finally made for a .45 caliber (11.43 mm) rather than a .38 caliber (9.65 mm), because the soldiers Americans preferred to be equipped with a handgun with a larger caliber. Colt 1911 came into service in the US Army on March 29, 1911, and was later adopted two years later by the US Navy and the US Marine Corps.
A century of service, And ready for a hundred years more. A classic without compromise. The perfect intersection of ergonomics, reliable operation, and .45 caliber power. The pistol that forgot to become obsolete. *The M1911.*
It’s ironic, Ahoy can’t own the pistols he talks about. Due to our stupid government, criminals are laughing at us.

I've found an US army Colt 1911-1918 while magnet fishing, I don't think it'll ever be able to shoot again (he's totally blocked), but just the way he looks is beautiful, and it probably fought in WWII!
My wife's grandfather was on General Pershing's staff during WW1. At a family gathering, I got to hold his Colt 1911. It seemed a little more slender than the gun we see here...
I don't care what others say but 1911's are still good guns. If I was legally allowed to carry one where I live would I carry one today? No probably not but I would definitely own one.

Thanks man I appreciate it!
The overall quality of the video is amazing. The video looks great, and the audio from the GoPro is phenomenal. Great job!!
As the current owner of my great grandfather's 1924 production US Army 1911 that was issued to him, I approve this video.
Lucky man

The quality of that pistol is stunning. Has it been refinished? I've never seen a wartime Colt look that good, absolute gem of an example.
It has plenty of holster wear though.
This gun is immortal lol. Served in every major American war and still is to this day.
Does it? It was replaced in the mid 80s by the Beretta M9

If you found it in a lake it was prolly used in a crime then tossed in there.Be wary.

For the first shot you have to cock the hammer yourself, but after that the moving slide cocks the hammer for you
