I'm blown away by First Nations Powwows, the pageantry, and the costumes, the skill of the dancers, and the drum music. I don't know what they're singing, but it speaks to Me....as funny as you might think.. i HEAR it. I love your culture, because it's pure, real, and honest....meegwetch!
I have anything to do with the First Nations in My favorites list, because I have a daughter who is Status, and two grandchildren, who have status. I don't know what to say, other than, that I support First Nations people in anything they do, and will do anything possible to aid, assist, or do whatever possible for you. I have no blood, but I have love and respect for you. My Lakota friends call Me Atak Naholo...White Man...it was a bit of a joke, but it seems to fit, as an acceptance by the Lakota. I'm an educated man, and know more than most people because I LISTEN, not just hear!
Please forgive My ignorance, because I didn't know, so now, I ask a few questions. First, is the choice of regalia rest with the dancer, or he and his family or is it tribal? Do the colours, and style of regalia have significance? Does the dancer choose his own style based on what HE, or SHE feels is right or do movements too, have significance? I love the Powwows, and attend any that are close to My home.
i might be really late with the answers, but first thing is first, this dancer is a well known dancer among the pow wow trail. he's a champion dancer. ...the regalia...it depends on the style: this is grass dancing so you will see regalia like this. the colors, it can be anything they want or like, some dancers have colors that have meaning whether its a family color, an animal, or something. Grass dancing is to mimic grass swaying, or they can mimic like they are laying down the grass with their feet, or it can be stalking through tall grass. so yes they are telling a story or the movements do have meaning. the dancers develop their own style within the style if you know what i mean. Most importantly, i can say that most dancers, if not all, they dance bc they truly enjoy it. Being a dancer myself, it makes you truly forget everything once you are in that circle. it's like you are in another world. It is a truly amazing experience each and every time.
Trea is an awesome dancer, truly enjoy watching him dance! True honor to his heritage, keep up the great work!
