    About 10 years ago, when I was a SU demonstrator, I had a SU guillotine that looks exactly like your Tonic guillotine. It had the removable handle and extender on it. I loved it. It worked like a dream! Sorry I ever got rid of it, but I decided to downsize all my supplies a few years back, thinking I was done with it (no room, no time, etc.). Now I'm back to cardmaking, and I'm kicking myself for getting rid of so much.

    Thanks for you video. I just ordered the Tim Holtz 12 inch one.
    UPDATE Feb 2023, Absolutely an awesome guillotine. Very sharp, I use it constantly. I also bought the smaller version for cutting scraps down. Highly recommend.

    Thanks so much for this video. I've been looking for a new paper trimmer and after watching this, managed to get an amazing offer and bought the Tim Holtz 12 inch tonic guillotine for £16 from amazon. a few days later it went back up to £41

    I know that you posted this in 2019, and this is 2021 I ordered the tonic in 2020 and I thought I was going to love it! I must say I can't get a straight cut with it? At first I thought it was something I had been doing, but with many more attempts I have figured out that it's the trimmer. I think it's not lined up right. Thanks for sharing your honest options on the different trimmers! I totally enjoy you input, and your talent!!!

    I love my trimmers too, I have the two Tim Holz guillotines, and the Woodware, which I have loaned to my granddaughter! My son has a bigger Fiskar rotary one, and I'm eyeing up the Cutterpillar!! But like you, I totally love the big guillotine.

    Thank you! I've been really wanting a guillotine cutter, but I've been procrastinating on purchasing one. It's so hard to know what to get with so many on the market! I was wondering what the Tim Holtz was like, and you're the 2nd person to recommend it. Thank you so much! Now I know what I'll be buying :-)

    Excellent demonstration and real honest opinion received. I am lucky to have seen this video before placing an order on Amazon, a cheap plastic stuff would have arrived. But the sad part is that "Woodcraft Collection" products are not available here. Hence I can't have it neither am I going to settle for anything less. So, life without a paper trimmer.

    So glad you did this review! I have a Fiskars trimmer which cuts ok but, I’m a hobby Stampin’ Up demonstrator and couldn’t wait to get the Stampin’ Up one. I hate it! I use mostly Stampin’ Up cardstock and get very few cuts with a blade. This started right out of the box. Then I bought another better Fiskars, but you do still have to replace blades more than I would like but nothing like the Stampin Up one. I read lots of reviews trying to find the best trimmer and bought a Swingline guillotine, but, I have trouble getting a straight cut. Then I bought the Cutterpillar pro. I still feel like I can’t get a straight cut. Maybe I just need to practice. I wish I could get the Woodware one, but I live in the states. I may have to look into the Tonic. Thanks again for an excellent review!

    Hello Ann. Another wonderful and practical video. I have a comment on the Woodware trimmer. Yes it cuts beautifully, but when you want to cut between 5" and 6" (where the arm comes out) then I find my card sizing isn't cutting accurately. There is a gap after 5 5/8 and before the 6" mark. I have only recently purchased it and feel disappointed that I have to keep measuring the size again via a ruler. I see other trimmers don't have this gap. Jo xx

I now use my Tonic guillotine the majority of the time. I also have the small and large one and also the small Fiskars guillotine!!!! The best trimmer I've ever bought has to be my Cutterpillar Crop. Yes it was expensive at £79.99 from Create & Craft but when u see how it works & all the reviews. It was a no brainer for me. You'll never need to replace blades again as it self sharpens. Love it so much I'll be buying the larger version this year sometime - the Cutterpillar Pro. I also bought the Cutterpillar Glow. Love both products xo

    No, you are not alone with having a lot of trimmers Ann, I think we all have been in search of the perfect trimmer. lol Trimmers like the SU one that have the same kind of blade will leave that edge on the cardstock. I don't like that either. Plus they dull pretty quickly. A rotary blade or guillotine trimmer will give the best cut in my own humble opinion and are self sharpening. Loved your review Ann!

    My Fiskars slide cutter's string just broke where it was attached and now it's just hard to see where i cut. Hi Ann,thanks for the tips on these ,I admit my stampin` up trimmer is not great,I have noticed that even changing the runner AND the blade you will still get that strange line,and sometimes I find it bunches up the card stock and just tears it, I loved my fiskers trimmer but lost it during my house move and have not got around to getting another yet. I do like the look of the woodware guillotine and the Tim Holtz one, so I think I might be getting me the woodware one.

      would you recommend for cut 1.5mm or 2mm thick greyboard with it? A4 size, cuts to 15 peaces. I need to cut arount 50 A4 size boards into 15 peaces, that is 60 cuts on each board.
      do you think Tonic can handle 2mm boards?

    • @UARELOVE1010
      @UARELOVE1010 3 года назад +1

      Is the Tonic 12" one better than Tim Holtz 12.25"? I was wondering if the solid base is better than the narrow cutting space of Tim Holtz's trimmer.

    • @craftyria
      @craftyria 3 года назад

      @@MrGoandrush I'm not 100% sure since I've never cut that type of board. I have cut chipboard and cardboard with it and it works fine. It is also sharp enough to cut tissue paper.

    • @craftyria
      @craftyria 3 года назад +1

      @@UARELOVE1010 I don't think it makes too much of a difference. The Tim Holtz one (probably made by Tonic) will take up less space and give you enough of a base to steady your paper/cardstock when cutting. It has an arm that extends so you can get longer measurements.

    I have the ProCision and a blue Fiskars one. The problem with all of these, EXCEPT the SU! one, is that you miss a few lines when you extend the arm. For my ProCision, I have to put my ruler on the side to be able to cut at 6" precisely (and I cut a lot at 6"). I tried the mini Sonic but returned it because the width was only 3" or something but the length was 6.25" so it was false advertisement.
    I have checked many people using the SU! one and didn't see any missing bars on it. So I might buy it just for that. The fluffy comes from not cleaning because my ProCision does that too and it's supposed to be self-sharpening.
    I would LOVE to get the Woodware one but it's out of stock right now on Amazon.ca.uk and eBay.ca - I did put it in my wish list, though. Never heard of it before your demo. TFS Nicole

    I have the big guillotine you love but I'm less satisfied. Once in a while it's like the blade doesn't cut but folds the cardstock over the edge first and then makes a sloppy ragged edge. I have no clue what to due about it.

      roden70, I may have an idea that will help. Because your guillotine is made of plastic it has some give on the handle. I have the same cutter and I found that when I pull the handle down I need to pull slightly to the left or the body of the machine and then slide the handle down. I hope this makes sense and I hope it works for you.

      I have the same problem. The cut tends to be very good on the upper part of the blade, but when cutting longer card, it starts bending the card in the lower section causing a bent ragged edge. Have tried pulling the blade to the left - results are a bit hit and miss, which would indicate that the guillotine has a problem with calibration and balance of the blade, which is a pity.

    Thank you for this video. I have one question : how do you do to measure with the gap between the plateform and the added arm ? At this place there is a lack of numbers written on. Thank you in advance for your help.

    Very informative video, thankyou! How can we sharpen our Tonic guillotine paper cutter? I've had mine for about 1 year and I am now getting fuzzy edges when I cut. Please help!

      Try cutting some aluminum foil with it a few times. That sharpens my cutter quite well for a quick fix. It also helps keep my favorite punches sharp.

    would you recommend for cut 1.5mm or 2mm thick greyboard with it? A4 size, cuts to 15 peaces. I need to cut arount 50 A4 size boards into 15 peaces, that is 60 cuts on each board.
    do you think Tonic can handle 2mm boards?

    I love my SU trimmer. You do need to give it a good clean regularly to stop paper fibre build up. I cut 250gsm cardstock & never had fuzzies or strange line you showed. I personally wouldn’t use anything else x

    I have the Woodware one too but I wished they would have made the extending arm of the ruler in a lighter colour, as I find it difficult to see the numbers in Red. I also have the SU one which I find is OK, and also have a couple of Guillotine ones too. TFS, Hugs Linda x

    I just purchased the Woodware trimmer from Scrapbook.com US after watching you use it on one of your videos. I love the way it cuts, and changing blades is so easy. I would like to get the pinking , scallop and Victorian cutting blades but can’t find them for sale anywhere. Any suggestions on where to buy them?

      Would love to hear from you or anyone who finds a seller of these replacement blades. By the way - I love your ideas using laminating sheets. I’ve been sharing them with one of my sisters who loves to craft, as do I. Thank you for your wonderful ideas and your generosity in sharing them with all of us.

    The Tonic one: If you use centimeters ... it's not quite handy. You can't measure the mm exactly, it's too far away from the line where you put your paper against

    Thank you so much for your review. I've looked all over for the Woodware paper trimmer and unable to find it so I can purchase. Do you know of another comparable one? I am interested with something that would have the scoring and pinking or wavy interchangeable blades.

    Haha, have you been spying on me Ann? I was just looking today for a new trimmer but couldn't decide on one. I have the stampin up trimmer and I do like it except the blades don't last long at all! I like the woodware one that you showed, with the different blades, so I may decide on that. Thanks for the review, it was very helpful. tfs,x
