    The bottom is subjective to everyone. Jordan will barely see a decline. Meanwhile I’ve been collecting Gary Sheffield for over 21 years.
    His autos went from $10 on average around 2015 to $13-$15 in 2020.
    There now back down to $6-$13 bucks on average I’d say
    These may just seem like numbers but it’s about prospective and “who” you collect. I’m entirely happy to pickup cards for $5-$6 less, as I’m already at the bottom and have been for years LOL
    That’s called a collector. My collection goes down 50% tonight? I’m buying
    I’ll have a bigger collection tomorrow

    There are lots of new people entering the hobby lately. Most I have seen before. I agree with the normalization of sports cards as an investment 👍. Serial numbered HOFers and RCs, or at least short printed cards are the best way to go and that's been where I have seen the money going. Not packs, new product, or other memorabilia 🤔

    Is it strange to wish that we could have a hobby where there were no comps? I think the reason sports cards are not going up is because everybody has the same data. I think aggressive price tracking has destroyed any kind of healthy volatility needed in a Marketplace. It would be great if we could just buy a card by looking at it add using our gut instincts. I think we would all be a lot sharper a little more keen on what other buyers would be willing to pay for that card.

    • @AmericanDreamAlbum

      Agreed. People are too chained to the DATA and value IT more than the cards.

    The problem is that every year the additional product puts more supply out. Even if demand for sports cards increases, the increasing supply will continue to hold back the increase of older cards. People want the new shiny stuff and also gambling is a part of it with big money put out for bounties.

The hobby is going to boom in the coming years in a more natural way. Interest is rising while prices have been dropping. I think this summer dip will be looked at as the turn point

    For some reason everyone gets hyped to buy when things are high, and immediately sell when they drop.
    I don’t collect modern for the most part… So, whenever 1950s HOF greats’ cards go down I’m stoked, because I can buy my list cheaper.
    Things cooling post pandemic has been great for my high grade set collection. Worry about value when you’re broke, when you’re not you should be happier buying the dip.

    This card market will eventually collapse. There’s no way that this market can sustain these insane prices. Eventually, the bottom will fall out. It’ll be sort or like the housing market collapse of 2008. Overpriced houses came crashing back down to reality in what was a massive market correction. That correction will eventually impact the card market in similar fashion.

    • @TheSportsCardDad
      @TheSportsCardDad  Месяц назад

      but now all those homes are more expensive than their all time highs from 2008........

    • @TheChrome-Magnon
      @TheChrome-Magnon Месяц назад +2

      @@TheSportsCardDad That’s why it was a market correction. The correction adjusted to what the prices should’ve been then. Now houses are back up because all aspects of building a home have substantially increased. It took over a decade for that market correction to manifest and we are only about 3.5 years into the insane card price overvaluations. This didn’t start until the Rona hit and everyone decided that cards were the next best thing. All that will eventually correct itself in a market correction once people realize they need to buy other more important things than cards, like say paying for that expensive home.

      Close to the bottom? That Kobe rc that's down 90% from 3 years ago, was probably a 20 dollar card before covid. You people who jumped in the hobby in the last 4 or 5 years have no idea what the bottom is with prices.
