I was 10 when we were attacked. At the time, I lived in Brooklyn Heights with my family. My bedroom overlooked the Promenade, which is a walk way between Manhattan and Brooklyn. I had a clear visual of the Towers. When the first plane hit I did not see it. I was dressing to go to the doctor. When it came on the News, my mom screamed and I went to the window. Within 10 minutes or so, the second plane hit. I told my Mom, those are terrorists. She said "Emily, you watch too much tv, that had to be an accident". Nothing, and I do mean nothing, will ever affect me as that day did. 9/11 happens to be my older sister's birthday, she turned 15 that day. My dad went and got her from school since we all had no idea what was going on. Many people in NY thought we were at war. The way everyone from all over the Country came together was amazing. There were police officers from every State helping out at Ground Zero. When the bridges and tunnels opened, my dad would drive me and my sister to lower Manhattan and get as close as possible to where the Towers once stood. We had three wagons, filled with ice and bottled water. We would give them out to the First Responders. In retrospect, we really did nothing. At the time though, it was all we could do due to our young ages. God Bless all the Souls that were lost that day and afterwards.
It may seem like nothing to you but in my mind what you guys did was awesome because you all cared so much that from the bottom of your hearts you guys were trying to make a awful situation better and if you and a bunch of other families did what you did then it combines to be a huge help. Also those first responders you gave ice water to probably made their days just cuz it was from the heart. Thank you for sharing and God bless you
hi! another born and bred new york kid here i was 9 at the time of the attacks growing up in Queens. i didnt completely understand what happened as none of the adults were completely open with the kids but i remember i could feel the terror. the smoke even came to queens and i remember the smell. i believe i had have ptsd from the attacks and maybe im only able to comprehend it all now i dont speak for anyone but i do think that this affected us as kids and we didnt get to deal with our emotions bc that was way before the era of opening up about how you feel

Hes an awesome guy! My mother worked at Resorts in AC back in the 90's as a buffet manager and she came home and told me he came in to eat and asked her to sit with him. He gave her a windbreaker or jacket. I cant remember all the details. I was young. But he was so nice.
I’m not kidding. I was hanging out with my cousin in NYC for the weekend, it was 3 in the morning and we decided to see the towers. My cousin told me to do this, he slept on one bench & I slept on another different bench to look up at the towers. It was awesome. Seeing the view of the dark sky with the towers lit up. We wanted to go to the top of the towers but obviously it was 3 am and not open. He promised me next time we will go inside and see the towers. 4 days later. I’m getting ready for my first week at school, (Senior Year) I start up my car, look at the sky and say to myself wow, this is such a beautiful day. First period, I hear that a plane hits the World Trade Center. We didn’t have iPhones in our time and the school wouldn’t allow kids to see what’s on the TV because they didn’t want kids to panic. So I’m assuming in my mind, a two seater plane hit the building and it’s just dangling outside a couple of windows. Then I hear that another plane hit the building. I’m not from New York, I didn’t know what the World Trade Center was. I just called them the Twin Towers, I couldn’t process what was going on. I didn’t know what was going on. Then I heard rumors that somewhere in Texas a plane crashed into something, Washington got hit, I couldn’t put into words how crazy that day was. I finally went home, saw what was happening. It was a day I felt all emotions of anger, confusion, shock, sadness, & not knowing what was going on. It was crazy that I saw those towers up close just 4 days ago, and now they are gone along with thousands of innocent people who died on that horrible day. Still can’t believe it.
Tony Danza summed up the feeling of unity for a short time after 9/11. It's sad it was shortlived. My children were 6 and 3 years old. I remember every minute of that horrible day. My older daughter remembers seeing live news and my crying. We are an hour or so from NYC. My husband worked in a building with a county jail. How extensive were the attacks going to be? I did let fear take over when the Pentagon was hit. We were blessed that our loved ones survived.
We had a church youth group activity that night and there was talk of cancelling it. But like Tony we didn’t want “them” to win, and knew it would be therapeutic. We had scheduled a Navajo hoop dancing family to do a show for us and decided to go with it. We opened the gathering with the Navajo family and they sang the national anthem in Navajo. There definitely was not a single dry eye in the room. It was so touching and beautiful to hear the anthem in the native tongue of the people who were here first. We all cried and hugged and prayed together. I’m glad they didn’t cancel it because I know it helped every one of us process what happened

When he said that I seen a plane crash into the other building. I said " look dad they replayed it. It was a big one." He said no... that was a live plan hitting. We are under attack.

Celebrities Are people Just like all of us. We often make it a separation between us and them. I love all people and I have never been a favoritist. I treat all people with the same congeniality. This event affected all people more some than others. But all we Americans know the sinking feeling in our hearts when 9/11 happened. It was life changing.

It's so great how your experience is worth so much more than mine because you lived in Broooklyn Heights and I was just mowing a lawn in Texas.

I watched Tony host the Miss America Pageant after 9/11 in 2001. He was amazing and did an incredible job hosting it. I was 12 years old at the time.
