Hmmmm...I was hoping for a solution without taking the camera apart because if I disassembled the camera, the memory card issue would be the least of my problems. Good video though.
Excellent video - Fortunately your demonstration led me to take a closer look inside of the SD card slot and I was able to remove a small bit of plastic that had broken off of an SD card - I used a nylon cable tie as a tool as it is not likely to damage sensitive parts. I did NOT take the camera apart. Thanks for the help in getting my camera back in working order dave
+Stewart Scott As i said, any question, just ask.... basically, i removed a piece of plastic from a Sd card, put an bendend pin straight and cleaned the slot! that was enought! ;)
+Stewart Scott "Could you quote me to fix mine?" hm? sorry... i didnt understand the meaning! Can you explain me better? (im Portuguese! :) ) However, do you know already what is the isseue with your camera? Wich model is? Camera says: "no card in camera? Theres a warped pin or broken? cheers
+Rui Bento Alves The SD card got condensation on it, I was up a mountain and the sudden change in weather and pressure on way down caused error message say unable to read card. When I removed the card I noticed that the pins were wet. Its not worked since. It will switch on when I have a full battery in but seems to shorts it out very quickly. No other formatted cards have worked. Its a 500D I really love that camera it was my first DSLR. A quote is a price for you to have a go and fix it for me and I pay you for your time.
Hi there! I would be pleased to fix the camera for you! However, im from Portugal.... i dont think that the shiping coast would be a good deal! If you saw that the pins were wet, it seems that its the origin of all issues of the camera. You need to open the camera and clean all circuit boards, conections and contacts! It looks that during the water/fog exposer, in some parts of the eletronics ocurred a "chemical deposit" between some contacts causing short circuit and bad conections! Do not try to turn on the camera again! Remove the battery also! Does the others parts of the camera worked? Display, flash, shutter, etc? If so, its most likely that, after the cleaning of the PCB´s the camera will work fine! :) An cell phone/electronic technician should be able to performe the cleaning! If you need any help, let me know! greetings!
Thank your for this post! I had this exact problem and your video was just what I needed! I looked inside my card slot and sure enough....there was a chip from a memory card! I removed it and the problem was instantly solved!
Hi and thank you for your effort and sharing :) I have the same problem, after I accidently put the card in the active camera, switch was on. Since you are the expert, would you like to buy my camera?
This video was helpful, i have a T2I and it stopped turning on, the little switch when you slide in the sd cover (not shut, but first shut cover, and then slide the cover in place seating it for shooting, the plastic tooth engages the switch) and there is an issue at this point. I'm thinking that bypassing the switch (close the connection so that camera always believes the sd cover is seated correctly see ruclips.net/video/yYlQaxk-fv0/видео.htmlm49s ) would be a good enough fix for me. There are three power switches on the camera that I know of, the battery cover, the on and off switch on top, and then the sd cover too, perhaps another at the lens? Anyhow, may try to blow out that little switch area, or have to do something similar to what you did.
Thanks for the video. I'll probably take mine apart today sometime. Hopefully it's the same issue. What did you use to clean it? I saw a brush and a canister with compressed air but it looked like you used something else.
+SethsPhone Hello mate basically, i removed a piece of plastic from a Sd card, put an warped pin straight and cleaned the slot! that was enough! And thanks also for helping Ceci Farías!! :) cheers
On my 6d sometimes error pop up that write protection on sd card in on. i gave it to service center but they said that pcb needs to be changed and the cost is it. is it really a problem on the pcb or is it better to change just the sd card slot from a local (unauthorised) service center
Amazing! I've never saw how it looks on the inside. Maybe it's just an utopia but... how impossible would be to replace a card slot board for a faster one? Or how make it faster...
Samuel Cabral Hi there, Im not shure if changing only the SD slot board would improve! Theres also the buffering, the internal camera memory, and, of cours, the speed of the card! But, nevertheless, hat a nice point! best regards
I try to formatting my SD card 4GB SanDisk Extreme III... but my camera not formatting ... when I press ok to format then the camera freeze and nothing happen, doesn't matter if I put it on or off ... still shows formatting and nothing happen, if I don't take out the battery then it holds like that til the battery is out of energy (I try a whole night without anything happens) ... haven't had any problems before, this happens when I move over the pictures to the computer ... I have tried to format it on the computer in all different formats ... but nothing works ... how to do?

maybe it he would have tip the camera over and tapped the corner of the camera the piece that was broken off would have fell out and card would have probly read again, just my thoughts.

This could be a worthwhile video if only you slowed it down and explained what you did - I still have no idea what you did.

Why is it sped up so you cant see how it done. Not very helpfull
Excelente vídeo. Minha T5 não tê cartão. Vou verificar se tem alguma sujeira no slot.
You didn't show us how to repair or fix it which components should be pressed back or damaged
I needn't say what plenty of others have commented as far as the negative comments go, besides the fact that the lighting also sucks.

Hello! I hope you can help me. I have a Canon T5. It won't turn on unless I take off the sd card. Do you have any idea of what couldbe the problem?
did you tryed with another card? same issue?
+Ceci Farías I have the same problem, if you look inside the slot you may notice pins are touching each other or broken
+Rui Bento Alves I've tried with several sd cards. None worked
+SethsPhone I'll check the pins. What if they're broken?
+Ceci Farías you have to send it out to be replaced or give it to a talented friend to repair
