thanks i really appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment, it is a lot of effort but it pays off, our cars are easier to sell, our customers now travel a lot further than they used too, and our stock turns over a lot faster, so its worth it. cheers Barrie
I have a 2010 slk and I love the thing to bits. It is obsidian black. It came with silver wheels....which were not great. So to put my own mark on the car, I got red calipers and had the rims redone in black. What a difference....looks magnificent. So, don't be afraid guys of minor mods. The car is beautiful and it can look better. Just have the courage 👍🏻
Greetings from Alaska. There is a 2008 SLK for sale up here with under 40,000 miles for $22,000 U.S. I'm going to look at it late next week or the week after. Anything I should watch out for?
supremeobliterator greetings from the UK, whilst the SLK is a pretty good car, (in my experience there has been a lot of problems with corrosion, give it a good checkover and make sure that this one has not been affected and just cocked up, Mercedes rectified a lot under warranty, check the wings, wheel arch edges, and especially underneath the boot and round the rear number plate area, and also the radio cd as they go wrong and are about £500 to replace and cannot be repaired, also the channel display can delaminate and looks very tatty
I recently baught one and realized that the trunk partition is missing hence the roof wont go down..how much would it cost to have the whole thing replaced?
I worked a short spell behind the parts counter of a dealership and after seeing what went on behind the scenes I can't understand the value on 'main dealer only' service histories. I'd value a good independent every time. Given your extensive experience in a variety of dealerships Barrie I'm curious if you feel the same?
Some good, some bad? I recently (I do a lot of my own motor DIY) had to remove the wheels on my 2010 SLK. One front wheel, bolts out - I had to use a hammer and long screw driver to free it from it's hub. It was rust welded. Techs aren't trained to do the simple things, like greasing etc. Sad but true...
Im afraid i find voice activation a bit useless if I’m honest, it never recognises what Ive said, and by the time I’ve repeated myself 50 times i could have programmed it with my eyes shut
I have a 2009 200 kompressor but with Auto gearbox which is better if you ask me.Great car and still worth more as half the new price. And this is Germany.Good video barrie only..why are you constantly busy with that handbrake :)
Giannis Sakel It is pretty much the same car as the pre-facelifted car. The changes were mostly in the exterior, mechanically it is pretty much the same just few bhp more. All SLK are known as reliable so as Barrie said look for the condition. ... if you plan to keep the car for long long time, as i believe it will be future classic it might worth the extra money for the facelift. If it is just a "summer flirt" for the next few years probably not worth.
Just bought one they are in the fun range of money for a car now. Great handling and a sexy car..,,preformance is a bit underwhelming and the radio is really outdated now., but it drives lovely
And yet my boring explanation sold the car, which is the primary goal of my channel, of course the question I’m asking myself is if you have already got an Slk why on earth are you looking at videos about them? Instead of leaving negative comments get off your arse and go and look at your own car !
Matter of interest only for me. I've been working and living in Germany now for nearly 20 years. I'm a technician for Audi cars in Ingolstadt so i think i'm more often off my ass working on cars than you.
Yes it seems odd i work for Audi and drive a SLK.Reason being that Audi don't make a hard top roadster.I do have an Audi Q5 S-Line also so i'm doing my bit of keeping up the good image of these great cars!
I started work at a garage washing cars at weekend, I cycled 18 miles to get there, i also helped out in the showroom, by the time i was 21 I was General Manager, I have worked for Opel, Vauxhall, Peugeot, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, a Supercar Specialist selling Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti and I have Run my own Independent Used Car Business for 20 years, I was at Mercedes Benz when the SLK came out, and sold more than any other Salesman, I am now 60 so I am pretty sure that i have forgotten more than you will ever know about cars, oh i've also had 8,287,285 Views and have 5571 Subscribers with 28 Years of total watch time, out of that only a handful of negative comments. I know the psychology behind leaving a negative comment "hey look at me I'm better than him", so i always look at the playlists of the people who left them, to see what makes them think that way, and what it is that they like, but you know what, I would rather stick pins in my eyes than watch videos about Manhatten Transfer Rat atat atat, and Spaghetti Western Music, although I do like Clint Eastwood but it wouldn't do for us all to be the same, and I would not dream of leaving a negative comment on a video that i may not like but that is obvious a lot of work went into making, i would just look for another one that is more suited to my tastes. You're Welcome!
You shut his mouth like a boss! I liked your style, no crazy behavior, no loud noises, just a chill man in a great sports car. I'm hoping I'll have one when I'll save enough cash and get my driving license, until then.. You've got a new subscriber. Since you've sold so many SLKs, can you tell me your opinion: Is this car a good daily driver for a young man? Is it reliable, is it worth the money? Buying an older one, like from 2003-2005, are those as great as the newer ones?
Love the effort you put into these videos

That SQUEEKY clutch pedal would drive me nuts.
I hate squeaks !!!

@@BarrieCrampton Wow you responded fast, thank you for the information. Could I contact you again after I look at the car?
supremeobliterator sure, no problem
Great idea using a drone. You've got some excellent shots there. Lovely car as well.
Yep started (trying) to incorporate drone footage about 8 years ago, but the video quality was never up to much,
I recently baught one and realized that the trunk partition is missing hence the roof wont go down..how much would it cost to have the whole thing replaced?

Hello Bernie! I was wondering if Apple CarPlay is compatible with this make of Mercedes?
no it doesnt,
Barrie**
it was close enough for me, I get called all sorts, don't worry
Great video as always, is that squeaky noise coming from the clutch when you change gear ?
Amit Mangat its either the clutch or my knee 😎
Nice drone there, and its shadow
thanks, not much i can do about the position of the sun
This model also has voice activated command (via a thin right hand finger stalk) to operate the hands free phone, stereo etc.
Im afraid i find voice activation a bit useless if I’m honest, it never recognises what Ive said, and by the time I’ve repeated myself 50 times i could have programmed it with my eyes shut
Would 130k on the clock be too much in your opinion?
Also, how is the Automatic gearbox on these mate?
If its a diesel no problem, the other engines will still be ok so long as you make sure that the car has been serviced and maintained properly

Thank you for taking the time to reply, much appreciated!!
🙂👌
If there are 1-10 points for the interior soundproof, how much do you give for R171? Thank you.
probably about a 7, but acceptable
I believe the color is palladium silver.
thanks, i can never remember the colours

Carlito SCF i agree, auto is best
Great review!
I’m interesting to buy a slk 200 r171 do you think that worth the extra money the facelift model ?
buy the best car for your budget, i would always put service history, condition and mileage over cosmetic improvements
Barrie Crampton thank you
you are welcome, thanks for watching my channel

Walton Le dale, Preston Lancashire
Barrie Crampton also thank you for the very informative video.
@@BarrieCrampton not far from me nr burnley
Merci...
🙋 jolie voiture ! . . .
pascal pascalou absolument 😎
I have no doubt this generation R171, with the F1 nose is future classic!
... but sill prefer Z4 E89, its just the better roadster, I think!
yes i prefer the look of the flatter grille
also like the proper handbrake why do mercedes use the silly pedal and handle system llike our cls and the c class we have do they are silly
Thats beyond me too, either on or off very quickly and with a bang, you need 3 feet to drive a manual merc with a footbrake 😎
@@BarrieCrampton thats correct imagine trying to get bite on a hill lol
id opt for the auto not manual and in red lol
I prefer automatic too, but probably black for me
@@BarrieCrampton love black too had many black cars but had to wash them every day they show up dirt quick like white does lo
